I am interested in becoming a RCCL (Residential Child Care Licensing Inspector) because I believe it's imperative to protect the children who have previously been in dangerous situations. The children that RCCLs help are already quite fragile and most likely have some mental and emotional scars. This sector of the child population need to be cared for and kept especially safe. In working and dealing with emotional and mentally scarred children can be quite difficult due to their lack of trust, self-esteem, and possible anger caused by the trauma and/or removal from home. While gaining those children’s trust would be an equally difficult endeavor, I believe the aid provided by RCCLs is life altering making the job one of the most rewarding positions
High Sky Children’s Ranch first opened their doors in 1963, when a woman named Joan Nobles was concerned about girls who had no absolutely no place to go. She was the president of the PTA when she heard a young juvenile probation officer speak about the need for a home for those girls that had no where to go. She, along with many others, worked for three years to open the first home. In 1963 the first home was opened and housed five girls (High Sky Children’s Ranch, 2011). In 1985 High Sky changed their license to accept both boys and girls, which enabled them to keep sibling groups together. Finally, Children Protective Services has let down many children and families. Children who are in the homes of loving, nurturing parents are take away from their secure environments, and are placed into degrading situations. The children who are in desperate need of help do not receive it. Many of the real cases of abuse go unnoticed and unfounded. The system need to distinguish the difference between real child abuse and parenting because there is a child out there who does need help but the workers are too busy focusing their time on cases that are not necessary. If CPS would create a new sstructure and set new standards, many more lives could be saved.
Mandated reports are a genre that is a part of numerous careers. Mandated reports are used by mandated reporters which are designate groups of professionals that are required to report cases of suspected child abuse and neglect. A mandated report has a specific way that it has to be field out because the severity of the information is a massive part in helping save an abused or neglected child from being endangered. This research analyzes the difference between the different documentations in mandating reporting and how one reports various from another. The next step is to investigate where and who the forms are turned into. I’ll be looking at the Social Worker perspective because it’s the field of study I’m going in and would potentially help me when I begin my career in children and family services. Giving the information about mandated reports would educate me on the all the factual information needed after receiving a mandate report and from the information gathered, how do they deiced whether or not it’s a serious case or not. This research would uncover every aspect from beginning to end of the entire process of when a report is submitted up until the discussion is made on what to do after reviewing the information. The report is used my any profession to report suspect child abuse or neglect at any time or place. There is a different between different careers on how the report is written depending on the person submitting it. The very last step is going in depth with analyzing the actual form and comparing and contrasting it to other forms from different states. I want to also look at, the different between the forms, depending on who is the attended audience.

Confidentiality and trust between the client and social worker is an important part of the therapeutic process. Confidentiality is discussed frequently with the client, in trainings, and in supervisions. When a client first begins services there are multiple forms to fill out, many of which explain the agency’s confidentiality policies and provide client’s the opportunity to agree to share information with certain parties (i.e. their PCP, psychiatrist, specialty providers) or not share any information at all. Despite this focus on confidentiality there are some areas where “the rights of others take precedence over a client’s right to confidentiality” (Hepworth, Rooney, Rooney, & Gottfried, 2017, p. 76). The job of a child welfare worker appears to be a demanding profession that promotes the child’s safety, but also strengthens the family organization around them in order to successfully raise the children. This child welfare workers work in the system known as the Child Protective Services whose initiative is to protect the overall welfare of the child. The short novel From the Eye of the Storm: the Experiences of a Child Welfare Worker by Cynthia Crosson-Tower demonstrates the skills necessary to deal with the practice of social work along with both its challenges and its happy moments. The novel consists of some of the cases involving Tower’s actual career in social work. In reading the book, I was able to experience some of the actual cases in which children dealt with physical and mental abuse from their families that caused them to end up within the system. Also, some of these children had issues in adapting to foster and adoptive families based on the issues they faced earlier in life. As we have learned earlier in the course, the violence that a child experiences early in life has an overall affect on the person they become as they grow into adulthood. When children deal with adverse childhood experiences, they are at a higher risk for abusing drugs and/or alcohol, increased likelihood of abusing their own child or spouse, higher rates of violent and nonviolent criminal behavior, along with several other issues throughout their lifespan.
