“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others” (Welch). Leadership is inspiring others to learn more, do more, and become more. Ineffective fail to possess certain characteristics which effective leaders do. Willingness to help others, selflessness, and strictness; these are the qualities of a both good and effective leader. Without these qualities, leadership would fail and being a leader would mean nothing.
Many definitions exist on what leadership is. Despite the many differences in definitions, they all describe the leader as someone who influences others. Leaders transform individuals around them allowing them to work to their full potential. In order for a leader to be successful they must be knowledgeable, self- confident, and effective communicators. These characteristics will create a positive workplace environment that results in an increase in productivity. Leadership is not defined by titles or salary. Leaders must acquire their skills and continue to improve on them through learning. Good leaders provide a vision and help motivate others to make that vision happen. The leader must be effective and successful in creating a strong institution.
An effective leader is confident. I am not afraid to speak to large groups of people and give directions. If I do not understand a task, I will not be afraid to ask for clarification. Additionally, I am a very outgoing person. This will aid me to be an effective leader because I will not be afraid to talk to new people or go out of my way to help a fellow band member who is in need. Another quality which will make me an effective leader is that I am a great listener. I will listen to all directions the first time they are spoken and execute them to the best of my ability. Also, because I am a good listener I will be able to learn things quickly. I take all advice and critiques to heart so I can improve my skills with each time I practice. Because I am able to receive directions the first time I will also be able to help my peers to complete the task as well and will be able to answer other members’ questions. An effective leader is also able to teach others. I have had a lot of experience with teaching others so I know I will be able to teach other marchers how to improve on their skills and become the best marchers they can be. Also because I am very patient, I will be able to work with members who are having a harder time with a certain task without getting angry or frustrated with them. In addition to being patient, I am a role model. An effective leader knows that others are always watching
In order to be able to understand what makes an effective leader, it is first essential to understand what leadership is. There are many varying perceptions about the concept of leadership. Many Scholars characterize the core qualities and skills necessary for an effective leader. Useem defines leadership as “Creating a vision and translating that vision into actions”. Historically, an effective leader was assumed to be exceptionally knowledgeable, authoritative, and dominate. Those leaders applied the command and control method to lead an organization. With the passage of time, this definition has been changed. The modern definition of an effective leader is honest, courageous, trustworthy, inspirational, and result-oriented. Today’s leaders create shared values and vision, and empower others to achieve their targets.
There are many different things I think of when I think of what leadership means to me. My idea of leadership is to be able to inspire others, get them excited to do something, motivate them and set an example to others. I also think that showing respect to others is a key part of leadership. You don’t just need leadership qualities, but you need to be a successful leader. To me being a successful leader is being able to have people follow you and not disrespect you. If you are a great leader your followers start to respect you more. To be a leader you also need to have certain qualities like being sociable, intelligent, have patience to deal with situations. A leader needs to be motivated or they will be a failure. I think I show leader ship all the time inside and outside of school. “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way (John C. Maxwell).
New and ever changing technology allows endless possibilities for design. As a creative director, it is important to grow with technology and the times. Coming up with a new and creative idea can be difficult with the mass production in advertising and graphic design. With the new technological era, it is much harder to come up new ideas. Now a single design can be quickly replicated with seconds, so the creative director works closely with a copywriter.
There are so many aspects to being an effective leader, yet they are so easy to achieve but some leaders do not care to. Effective leaders must motivate, value their employees, solve problems, and be accountable. An effective leader is said to know the organization, the purpose,
Design is thinking made visual. As creating visual in design thinking, it's about concepts, ideas or about the solutions for problem solving. Human brains process visuals 60,000 times faster than text. About 93% of all communication is nonverbal. Ones can gather a story from an image, rather than a word on its own. » Leadership « For one I am a strong leader, and never a dictator. When it comes to activities, I love being the captain. The "team captain" is something that many people cannot hold. I am willing to work my way up from the bottom to the top. I am never a dictator and when I am asked to change something I look at the outcomes and the effects on the people.

Creating a vision, carefully crafted, can help the team know who they are and who they are not. Miranda was able to get buy-in to her vision through her reputation and strategic thinking. Creating a vision for Runway proved to be very effective for Miranda to motivate the organizational member and get them to perform well.
‘Creative without strategy is called “art”. Creative with strategy is called ‘advertising’. Creativity grabs attention. People are flooded with millions of ads each day, but screens most of them out. Creativity allows advertisements to get past the filtering process and appeal to the intended audience. (Altstiel & Grow 2012) Advertising agencies nowadays are forced to think outside the box, by looking at the bigger picture and constantly discovering new ideas and ways to grab people’s attention. A successful creative advertisement results from the ability to incorporate strategic concepts in order to draw the line between plain art and advertising. There are no rules, no patterns to creating highly creative advertising. (Lee 2000)
According Carpenter, Bauer, Erdogan, (2009), “an effective leader was defined as someone with the ability to influence and motivate others not only to perform work tasks but also to support the organization’s values and meet the organization’s goals” (p.70).
