Leadership the action of leading a person or organization. For me leadership is a relationship. Leadership development is the ongoing process I need to use in order to become a successful leader. Over the years I have gathered leadership traits from those I looked up to, there was plenty to learn and still more to learn today. The biggest leadership influence on me is from the Chiefs at my current unit, Coast Guard Aviation Technical Training Center. If you asked me about my leadership philosophy this time last year the result would be quite different from the leader I am today. Leadership views and value change with situations that come up in our life. A person that might have an ability to project a unified shared vision with the people he leads due to everything in that person’s life was lining up perfectly. We all know nothing in this world is perfect, but when the odds are in your favor the enthusiasm is at a higher level. A life event happened in November of 2015. My spouse of 8 years passed unexpectedly after a short battle at a local hospital. I recently had a chance to visit the Coast Guard training center in Cape May New Jersey. It was an eye opener and it had a profound impact on me. The impact was not initially, but as I took time to reflect there were characteristics that influenced me about the quality of change. Then I looked around the room at all of the Leadership in my Senior Enlisted Leadership Course (SELC) class and reflected on how I envision a part of myself in every one of my classmates. I am envious of some of their accolades nevertheless I am content with where I am. In the Aviation Field everyone knows you based on experience, they respect that experience which is what fosters your confidence to be a better leader. Leadership is a never ending learning experience, a developmental process. I value what I have learned so far from my fellow Chiefs in this course, in turn I will use it to fine tune my leadership practices in the

Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
It is often said that some people are born leaders. However, I believe that my leadership skills have not necessarily been innate, but one that I have gradually learned and developed.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
Leadership is that process in which one person sets the purpose or direction for one or more other persons and gets them to move along together with him or her and with each other in that direction with competence and full commitment (Elliott, 2009). Leadership is supposed to guide people to attain a particular set vision. Motivation is fundamental in the process of leadership as if there is no motivation there will be laxity among the people involved. It is also a critical scenario for leadership to have followers; this will infer a relationship between leaders and followers (Frank, 2003).
Leadership is not defined by position. Leadership is an extraordinary responsibility given only to those willing to exude selflessness, decisiveness, and wisdom. CSM William R. Hambrick, Jr is an accomplished leader that embodies the values, attributes, and competencies that I aspire to convey to my subordinates. The impact that CSM Hambrick has had on my career and leadership philosophy is immeasurable. His far-reaching legacy is one of confidence, sound judgment, and empathy.
Leadership is a relationship that people have to be willing to commit to. As a leader we must become personally involved at building connections with our coworkers. Look for every opportunity you can to reinforce values and culture. Leadership is a set of skills that can be learned. Using the five practices and the ten commitments to leadership outlined in The Leadership Challenge can make all of us better leaders and enhance the department that we work for. Being able to have an impact on people within our community and organization represents the commitment to be the best leader you can be.

Leadership Philosophy My personal definition of leadership is the ability to enable individuals to find intrinsic value in their positions and be self-motivated to complete our missions. The greatest leadership influences during my career have been from those who have given me the creative room to get the job done, have allowed me to fail, but not egregiously so, and have given me continuous feedback. Those leadership attributes provided me the opportunity for self-reflection and ultimately, growth. To keep growing as a leader, it’s imperative that I identify leadership behaviors that I can improve upon.

What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill, regarding the ability of an individual or organization to "lead" or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. Leadership can not be defined by just one word but by action. I have seen development within myself through my volunteer service. Leadership is both a research area and a practical opportunity to share the ability gained as an individual, also through my organization, to lead or guide other individual team members who have a common goal. Volunteering in the church organizations matches my need to be of service to others.
Leadership is defined differently for different individuals. There many ways that people can be different in the way they think or participate. During lecture, two main concepts important to me were known as Collaborative vs. Adversarial and Locus of Control. I felt surprised of the different ways people may think and how they may decide on action. The action I could take is to acknowledge work with the acceptance of different perspectives.
Leadership is a role that a person will step up and take. Then again, not everyone can have leadership. In order to have leadership, you must act in certain ways to acquire the goal of leadership. Leadership is more than just leading people to achieve certain goals. It’s the way you approach the person you are trying to lead.
