Nursing is a demanding career that requires proficiency in many types of skills to ensure patient safety and wellbeing as well as timely efficient care. One important attribute that a nurse must have is to be effective at teamwork and collaboration. This semester I had the opportunity to practice working in a group, and it was a rewarding experience. The benefits of teamwork, such as, creating a group of support and splitting a large task into smaller manageable sections, cannot be understated. I hope that in my future career as a nurse I have the pleasure of working with individuals who are as task driven and understanding as the people I had the pleasure of completing this project with. Through teamwork we were able to build a support group for finishing this assignment and creating camaraderie in our other classes. We were able to effectively open a dialogue through which we planned our strategies to complete certain tasks. The discussions composed the bulk of our meeting and seemed very effective. Our group did not have problems with compliance or tardiness, and for this I am thankful. When we decided to meet, we did, and were able to …show more content…
She did not make an effort to communicate with us very well and I did not feel like we were able to create an interpersonal relationship. However, she came to every meeting and completed her share of the delegated tasks, therefore, I have no qualms with her. I only wish she would have shared her view on the project, or even responded with “ok” on our group text messages. Perhaps she is just shy, and easy going, but I still would have preferred to hear her voice in our group moments of collaboration and decision making. There was nothing I could do to change her behavior, but I always made sure to ask if she had a particular opinion about an idea we were voting on as a group and she always was “fine either way” or “good with
My team consists of four other people besides myself, Lauren Chojnaki, Alexa-Louise Patnode, and Jacobe Loewen, and Ryan Tyriver. Together, we are tasked with the mission to complete a stakeholder analysis regarding a specific organization and their structure. For this project to be completed successfully, it is important that all team members are able to cooperate with one another and are able to use their different strengths to create the best end product.
Some research shows a connection between teamwork and reduced incivility in the workplace because a good team establishes a level of trust and effective communication, therefore, allowing nurses to feel empowered and supported (Logan, 2016, p. 48). Teamwork produces healthier environments with better healthcare outcomes. It is essential for staff to be proactive by attending staff meetings and committees such as shared governance and learn how to become effective mentors for new nurses.
Giving team members the opportunity to discuss work progress means you can acknowledge each other’s achievements and celebrate success which is important as it will boost morale in the workplace making it a much better environment to work in and may also increase efficiency.
Working in the health care setting, teamwork and collaboration are used frequently to insure that everything runs correctly and efficiently. According to qsen.org, teamwork and collaboration consists of functioning effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care. While assessing the patient a nurse can come into contact and work with many different individuals. These can include other nurses, doctors, therapists, and family
Many years from now, I will take this experience with me to better myself as a nurse. I know for the future that it is in my patient’s best interest, if I collaborate with other health care professionals. In order to maintain patient safety, I must always remember to work together with my fellow collogues to obtain a positive working environment. In order to be a good nurse, I need to always understand that I am part of a team to help those in need. I want to incorporate providing efficient care to each and every patient the best way I possibly
Working collaboratively with each other improves the nursing care by bringing out the best outcomes for each discipline. Thus, in my stand, team work and collaboration are the most necessary and vital qualities needed for future nurses to provide the best quality care possible.
Developing and improving teamwork and collaboration in the workplace has proved to be an essential asset for all nurses to obtain. Making sure to form clear and logical objectives and understanding the roles and tasks of team members allows us to use teamwork and collaboration to obtain the best possible patient outcomes.
Teamwork is a positive interaction between members of the group having the ability to help other people to achieve common goal. Group work plays a vital role in the clinical field especially for nurses, because healthcare providers need to coordinate and discuss information for the continuity of care of their patients. I can recall a good experience. When I worked in the hospital before, me and the team always keep in mind that having teamwork in the unit, people can accomplish tasks effectively and efficiently and creates a good working environment. For instance, my colleagues were very approachable and focus on two way communication where we are able to share information and knowledge. If somebody is behind and having so much workload to do at the end of the shift, some of my co-workers would offer help such as taking the obs of the patient. However, Based on my personal its not always the case.
When working on a group project, there are certain skills that are required to make sure that the tasks are being carried out smoothly. With that in mind, it is critical to keep an open line of communication as well as an understanding of the other individuals in the group. The following scenario is of a group project I was a part of that had a breakdown in the two points expressed above.
My co-operative behavior and the agreeable behavior I exhibited contributed to the harmony and the success of the group. The co-operation that was exhibited was relative to prompt arrival to meetings, meeting group deadlines, and thorough participation in the discussions and the forums of the group. While I was indeed co-operative for most of the group sessions, I was not afraid to speak my mind. My strongest writing skills were illustrated with the expression and analysis of the benefits and the drawbacks associated with the group project.
Effective teams work to establish common goals. These goals are usually the drivers of an effective team when all of the participants are communicating to develop the goals they would all like to achieve. In business, this can be seen when groups set a sales goal and develop a plan of action to achieve this goal. Individuals empowered to approach a goal with their interests in mind as well as the interest of the whole group.
The teamwork is usually defined as the process of working together in a group to achieve a common goal. These days working in groups is inevitable. Whether it is a school assignment or working in a clinical settings, we have to work in groups to accomplish a task. We cannot expect to work in isolation all the times. (Stonehouse, 2011)
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
We observed the occurrence of synergy as we worked together with a significant deal of cooperation between members of the team. Previously, none of us were found to be dominant in our specific divisions and there are many groups in the presentation with exceptional skills to succeed. But, coming together in this group, we are able to succeed from other groups in presentation while demonstrating the significant synergetic group work. We were not able to win on individual level but our contribution to the group has combined to influence our performance positively and letting us achieve our goal of winning maximum marks. It is important for us to note that we would not be able to gain success in this presentation on individual basis but contributions from each of us combined to let us achieve our goal of gaining maximum marks in this task. We met every two weeks whenever we had our employment classes and these meetings were productive. These meetings went well but they could have been more productive if we had structured a proper schedule for maximising our meeting time. While considering the potentials of our group, our coach informed us that our group can only win if we want to and this caused a positive reaction with the confidence. None of us had any issues of ego and self-centeredness but instead we all wanted our group to perform outstanding. We consistently possess
