This week’s Discussion assignment dwelled mainly on students’ reflection on issues on whether it was ethical for agencies, institutions, or organizations to try to change people’s sexual orientation through means of punishment or suppression? for what reasons and by what means do such organizations achieve this means, giving examples. The second part was on if sexual orientation was an issue that society should be involved in and whether society should be allowed to tell one what gender of person that one could be allowed to have sex with. The last part was on a reflection on late adulthood, how it is viewed in our individual countries. Why do the stronger western nations tie financial aid to the acceptance of same-sex relationship outside of their country? Why it is not accepted readily? Why is the top rich nation trying to force it down on the weak nations? Is it globalization or standardization or the world? Same sex has no place and has never had a place in our sociocultural practices as a people, that is not to say it may not have been practiced, Most people do not know that as Africans we knew of the existence of a universal being, long before the Europeans came down with their religion. Rites on fertility, birth and death , on new farming seasons, at the citing of a new moon, the role of the sun and the moon on the aspect of male and female, shows all these.
