Even though I have made up my mind with what career I want to peruse next, I was very open to the idea to take the assessments. The assessments reinforced what I already knew about my interest, skill and strengths. Since business analyst can work in many different types of fields and organizations, I paid close attention to the career clusters, place the cards, and work importance locator to give me a general idea of what sector I should attempt to enter. The whole reasoning I want to be a business analyst is because it won’t set any career limitations. My skills, interest and strengths also compliment what is required to be a successful business analyst. I learned that I like to be social, work with others in a team atmosphere, however I do like my space as well. Essentially, I like …show more content…
Part of my top five selections had to do with my work values. This is why I thought it was important to include dependability, integrity, listening, leading and attention to detail. I would have liked to include more in the very satisfying skills section however I played along with the activity. I considered the moderate skill section to be an extension of the very satisfying section. That being said, I think my somewhat satisfying section is more of my moderate list. Looking back at it now as I type up my reflection, I see how I would move things around. For example, I have flexibility, efficiency, rapid response and planning in the somewhat section when I should of put them in the moderate list. I also would swap out following procedures with dependability from the very satisfying section. I think if you follow procedure that makes you slightly more dependable. I think it would be interesting to do this activity towards the end of the course to see how much it changes. I would make sure I do not reference this current list before I take it again in the future to make sure I do not manipulate the
P2: Assess own knowledge, skills, practice, values, beliefs and career aspirations at the start of the programme.
Throughout the beginning of this semester I have looked at how individuals behave within business organizations. Through various exercises and results, I have found a number of patterns within my behavior and interests. I have become aware what interests me, and a number of skills/abilities I was oblivious I had. This reflection and in class exercises has allowed me to expand my skills, abilities, and behaviors, well fitting them into prospective future employment.
According to the skills profiler report, my current skill set are best matched with engineering, architecture, computer, mathematical and management careers. In this report, I will reflect on my professional development throughout this module, from when I started in September, to now. According to Beausaert et al. (2011), ‘the art of self-evaluation is an integral element of reflection and involves critical insight into understanding one 's strengths and limitations’. Therefore, my aim is to identify my learning needs and to recognise my personal skills and capabilities, as well as identifying areas of my skill set that need to be refreshed or extended to stand out in the competitive job market. By doing this, I hope to demonstrate knowledge of the skills that I have gained during this module.
After completing the assessment exercise I have been able to carefully my personality. The exercise consisted of an evaluation of four areas: Locus of Control, Personality Type, Stress Reactions, and Learning Styles.
Becoming a financial analyst will allow me to enjoy a career in the finance field that pays well and also offers ample opportunities. The position of a financial analyst is growing very fast and so there are more opportunities for me to become a financial analyst. Being a financial analyst will not only put me in a powerful position within the organization but it will also teach me skills that I need about investing for my own financial life. Some of the qualifications for the career that I already have include a bachelor’s degree in finance, technology experience (Microsoft word, Microsoft outlook), skills such as maximization of work practices, and quality vigilance. One qualification that I need for this position is the ability to turn data into information. Since this position requires past experience and I have none, I can undergo training so that I can be at par with the job functions and requirements. Despite the fast growth of the job, though, there is stiff competition and even though I will most likely get this job with my bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree will help me stand out among my competitors and it will also be a wise investment for me since I have my eyes on a financial management position at one point in
One topic I enjoyed in this class was social interaction and social structure. Social interaction is how we interact with others in the world. Social structure is our status in the world. The one thing that stood out to me was the three different statuses. Ascribed status is a part of us, something that will never go away. My ascribed status is that I am an African American woman. Achieved status is the things we accomplish in life and put effort into. These are the things we freely do. My achieved status would be when I was in High School and I volunteered to mentor small kids at an elementary school. Also when I help my Aunt every year with grading her papers and helping her teach at her school. Master status is the status that makes up your
This summer’s course in ‘Business and Society’ was a great opportunity for me to learn more about myself, my perspective of business, the role of government in society, policy makers and most importantly the views of the stakeholders. For the spring semester gone and this summer session almost all classes were tied into my major, giving me a better understanding on what I want out of my degree. My major here at Marymount Manhattan College is Finance and this class has surely helped me in figuring out, the workings of ‘big business’ and its impact on stakeholders. This course has helped me understand why many laws, at one point to me sounded absurd, but are in place to protect both industry and stakeholder. I never thought communication was such a priority in the business world until taking this class. From newly learnt material I see communication as a
The first step of career management process is self-assessment. Self-assessment is refers to the employees using some information that help them to decide which career they really interested to pursue, ability, skills, and behavioural tendencies. According to Allen (2005), self-assessment is a process to identify skills, abilities, knowledge of the employees. Self-assessment is also involved with some exercises which able the employees to identify their career future plan, where are they for now and also how their career match with the current situation and resource that available (Noe, 2010). After done with the exercises, career counsellors usually used to assist the employee in their self-assessment process and also provide explanation about their result of psychology tests. Then the employees assess their current skills and abilities and also capabilities they are lacking with some informa...

I found this topic so interesting and motivating and I believe that I got some new knowledge and skills after attended this assignment topic. My experience has been successfully expanded as a result of attending classes, to include global approach to the international business. I found out that practice for international business has become little bit complicated due to influence of globalization.
Business finance has taught me how to manage risk and return as well as making capital investment decisions throughout the semester. Professor Schott has gone through each chapter carefully well making sure that each student grasps each concept before moving on. He has used many tools such as LearnSmart, lectures and homework assignments to make sure that us students have a good idea of the concept before giving us exams.
According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
In conclusion, my assessment re-assure the characteristics I knew I already had. However, it was an opportunity to foretell what I need to brush up on. Even though I do not wish to be an entrepreneur, entrepreneur’s carry a tremendous amount of characteristics that bring success. Mastering these skills will definitely be a benefit in an exceedingly amount of challenges/opportunities I will face in my career
My parents arrived in the United States hoping for a better future not for themselves, but for the baby they carried in their arms. We would often move from relatives ' houses since my parents couldn’t afford renting an apartment themselves. We were fortunate enough to have caring relatives who didn 't mind us living with them since they knew the hardships we were going through. I grew up in a household where only Spanish was spoken given that both my parents didn’t speak any English at all. When I was in kindergarten, my teacher was afraid that I would be behind the rest of my classmates, given that I only spoke Spanish fluently. I was fortunate to receive free tutoring from my kindergarten teacher. We would often read books together until
