Attending the Board of Education Meeting I attended Bellevue Independent Schools Board of Education meeting on March 22, 2017 held at Grandview Elementary school. The meeting started with the Call of Order, roll call and then went into the Pledge of Allegiance. In the beginning of the meeting every seat was taken and there seemed to be a lot of people there to participate but after the recess there were only 7 people in that were in the audience and 4 of them had to talk to the board.
After the roll call and the introduction of the meeting the board members allowed time for the students of the month to be acknowledged. A student from each grade was nominated by one of their teachers in the category of “Effort and Enthusiasm”

After the board members approved all the costly items for the district there were 10 reports that needed to be addressed with the board. The first report was from “District Support Services” given by Janis Winbigler, she stated that there were 18 laptops bought for the High School RTI program that would open the program up to more students and would help them become college ready in math. The “Bellevue Beyond the Bell” coordinator delivered the good news that she was approved for the grant that allowed her to continue the program at the high school and that she was approved for a grant that allowed her to start the program at the elementary school program. The board thanked her for the work that she did considering that some of the members of the board have children that attend the program and they recognize the importance of her program. Attendance and enrollment was addressed positively. The rate of attendance for the senior class during the month of February was at a record of 96.5% of students attending each day. The board joked about the fact that the seniors must really care more about their education because the record is 4% higher than usual. The rest of the meeting was very fast paced because there were not as many things that needed to be
By having school board meetings, it helps to see what the school’s needs. This is very important for the reason that this may be the only time that a concern parent or person voice might be heard. From this meeting, it was learned that the school board members are willing to help people that have concerns. An example, of this, was when the concern Pre-K parent was worried that she heard that Pre-K has been just a daycare. However, someone from the board mentioned to her that she would personally go with the parent the next day and show her how Pre-K is running during the day. This made the parent so happy because her concerns were being met. I have learned that school board members look out for the students and that they are the number one source that community members should go to if they have a concern or a suggestion to better their children’s
Ms. Hines was determined to overcome her issues and attain it a great school year. She set all her lesson plans to her students with disability. She made sure her class activities would be easy for her students with disability, but also entertaining for her other students. Ms. Hines also paired her students together during her class activities. She figured out that making her class activities in
I went to the school board meeting on March 21, 2016 in Kanawha. The following people were at the council: Wayne Kronneman, Leah Deutsch, Ryan Hiscocks, Ryan Johnson, Jay Burgardt, Mona Buns, Gary Chizek, Todd Hammer, and Jon Harle. The others were mainly community member which included teachers, principals, parents and supporters. Some of the West Hancock staff included Mr. Peterson, Mrs. DeHart, Mrs. Bruns, Mr. Francis, Mrs. Gast and others. The other people who were there were parents and other community members. The first part of the meeting was the revision of the budget and presentation of the budget. This was given by Wayne Kronneman. He explained the budget of this year and how it compared to last years. Also he also talked about the budget for next year. After that they had a discussion with the
Visiting your local government is a good way to stay involved and stay updated with all the local issues. The reason people go to these local meetings is to get their voices heard and to try to change issues that they don’t agree with. The government meeting that I attended was at Julia Morgan Elementary School for Lodi Unified School District; the meeting was held on February 16, 2016. There were some minute topics being discussed about the school district but the main topics of the meeting were about authorizing the transfer of one-time funds for outstanding mandate claims to the special reserve fund for Capital outlay, Communications, and Reports. While attending this meeting I learned a lot about what was going on in Lodi.
On January 23rd, 2014 I attended an Allentown School District board meeting at 7:30 pm. This meeting was just a regular board meeting instead of an education or financial meeting that they also have during the year. Since this meeting was the first board meeting I have attended, I didn’t really know what to expect. Would it be like a jury where members vote? Or would it just be a run through of how the year is going? Turns out that it’s a combination of both and it was interesting to watch.
Class of 2012, as we sit here this evening, I would like you to take a look at the classmates sitting around you. Many students have given countless hours of time, energy, and passion to worthy cuases that they have been a part of throughout high school. However, those aren't the only students deserving of recognition this evening. We have students here tonight, who have taken a stand for what they believe in, not even hesitating to compromise their reputations.
High school has been a very interesting experience for me. It has definitely had its highs and lows and many confusing experiences in between. Overall, I feel like I have been equipped for not only college, but also life as a whole. High school has taught me many things, both academically and emotionally. It has revealed and exposed my true colors, both good and bad, and as a result, has built many aspects of my character. My experiences at Alameda High school and Alameda Community Learning Center have shaped me into the person that I am today.
She gave constructive feedbacks to the students and provided them with suggestions for improvement. At 12:00 noon the students were brought back to the therapy room for the post-conference session. During the post-conference, students shared their experience at their respective units and the preceptor and I shared our thoughts and observations during our
Today each of you will be recognized for the hard work, determination and dedication you exhibit daily inside the classroom. Each of you has every right to be proud of all you have learned and accomplished. That feeling of satisfaction is the real reward today and every day.
This type of unanimous voting is also synonymous with an inert school board. These members, based on their actions, seem to take on the “delegate” role. None of the members came across as politically minded or individually minded. All members seemed to act in favor of the public’s interest. Dr. Reilly, the district Superintendent, can be seen the same way.
The meeting began when the school board members entered the large group instruction room and took their seats at a panel table angled to the side of the audience. The school board consists of nine elected members from the community. The members are as follows: Paul Ridley (President), Pat Vigliotta (Vice President), Helen Cumminskey (Secretary), Carla Manion ( Asst. Secretary), Timothy Bean (Treasurer), David Feely (Board Member), Keith Hatch (Board Member), Shane Oschman (Board Member), and Joseph Troutman (Board Member). Three members of the board were missing; however because of where the seats were located I could not see who was missing. Also, the member did not introduce themselves and left before people could address them.
This being my first year of teaching I feel there are so many things that I have learned, and have helped me too become a good teacher. Yet I have so much more to learn, I still believe that students have the ability to learn and as a teacher it is my job to find ways to help them to become the best person they can be. Through being a reflective teacher, using professionalism, respecting diversity and having collaboration and community connecting this can be accomplished. When I am having fun teaching the student will have learning that material, this will help them to be relaxed and engaged in that lesson. I feel it is important to connect what they are learning to things that they have experienced in the real-world.
One topic I enjoyed in this class was social interaction and social structure. Social interaction is how we interact with others in the world. Social structure is our status in the world. The one thing that stood out to me was the three different statuses. Ascribed status is a part of us, something that will never go away. My ascribed status is that I am an African American woman. Achieved status is the things we accomplish in life and put effort into. These are the things we freely do. My achieved status would be when I was in High School and I volunteered to mentor small kids at an elementary school. Also when I help my Aunt every year with grading her papers and helping her teach at her school. Master status is the status that makes up your
After transcribing the session with my client, I discovered a few things about myself. This session was, in my opinion, a better depiction of my skills than prior sessions with this client. Upon review, I felt that I was not as nervous in the session but I still saw room for growth. I saw many times where I could have used more paraphrases, reflection of feeling, and confrontation.
My cooperating teacher has been employed in the field of education for 19 plus years. She has been in her current position as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at the Lighthouse Learning Center for 12 years. Observing a teacher who has so many years of experience in the classroom is very beneficial. She shared with me this week her teaching philosophy that has evolved from her many years in the classroom. The components of her philosophy include a focus on people, strategies, and tools.
