After being an elementary education and special education major at Ball State University, I have had many new teaching experiences. This semester, I was given the opportunity to teach at Burris Laboratory School. It was great to observe a classroom with a teacher who had been teaching for so long! Although I know there will be challenges, I want to continue in the teaching program. EDEL 200 has allowed many experiences that has shown me how to be a successful teacher.
I will continue in the teaching program since I enjoyed working on my activity plans throughout the semester as well as applying what I learned when working with my students. I want to continue in the teaching program in order to gain the necessary skills to become a successful

Specifically, I was able to emphasize the Social Competencies, such as Planning and Decision Making (32) through my activities. I would give the students a task and their job was to plan how they would personalize the activity. Additionally, the students had to make multiple decisions on what colors and materials to use. A Commitment to Learning was emphasized through Achievement Motivation (21). Through EDEL 200, this was seen when teaching at Burris because the activity would always begin with a motivation for the students to get excited about the project! The teacher accommodates the students’ background to understand the cultural identity. Additionally, the teacher must effectively motivate the students to stay engaged by interpreting their existing knowledge. I see multiple traits within myself when it comes to diversity responsive teaching. For example, I see a communication of high expectations, student-centered instruction and positive perspectives. I use appropriate instructional strategies and I take the time to learn about the students’

Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
I plan to never stop learning. I feel I have a thrust for knowledge that can never be quenched. I plan to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Upon completing that degree I plan to share the wealth of knowledge I have attained. I plan to start teaching in or around the Appalachian area. I would like to stay in West Virginia, but for reason unknown I would be prepared to move to western Virginia, eastern Kentucky, or northern North Carolina. I then plan to enroll in graduate school to receive my masters, and then I wish to complete my education with a doctoral degree. I wish that one-day to help inspire the future teachers of America or the world.

As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
Growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood as a kid sanctioned me to perpetually become aware that I was different from my neighbors. Through some social interactions with my friends in elementary schools, I quickly descried that my appearances, such as my hair, eyes, and nose was different from my peers. For instance, my hair was a lot darker than most of my peers’ hair and the texture of my hair was different from most of them. “Grow out your hair” were phrases that lingered throughout my childhood days, where I had my hair at a very short length. Ever since I started talking this class, English 1301, with Dr. Piercy, I have been able to expand my writing and thinking skills. Not only was I able to make more better essays but I also learned important topics such as how education creates an impact in the world. In this essay I will be talking about three writings and how they are related to this course semester. The three writings are “On Bullshit” by Harry Frankfurt, “Why I Write Bad” by Milo Beckman,and “Statement of Teaching Philosophy” by Stephen Booth. How are these 3 writings related to this semester’s course work?
When I scheduled the class Persuasive Communications, I had no particular interest in the subject matter; I just needed to finish the general education requirement for a second writing course. It fit my schedule and sounded reasonably interesting, but I did not think I would gain much from it. It was a general education class after all, and would not be very high on my priority list. Now that the semester is almost over and the class work is complete (albeit after this paper), I feel as if I gained a lot from this class. The class’s main objective was to expand our skills as writers, but it served in teaching us many other things that hold value in our education and future careers.
Diversity in classrooms can open student’s minds to all the world has to offer. At times diversity and understanding of culture, deviant experiences and perspectives can be difficult to fulfill, but with appropriate strategies and resources, it can lead students to gain a high level of respect for those unlike them, preferably from a judgmental and prejudiced view. Diversity has a broad range of spectrums. Students from all across the continent; students from political refugees, indigenous Americans, and immigrants bring their cultural and linguistic skills to American classrooms. Students not only bring their cultural and linguistic skills, but they bring their ethnicity, talents, and skills.
Throughout the numerous experiences I have had during my time at Benedictine University, I have learned different lessons and values that will prove important to my teaching career. The different courses, teachers, and schools that I had the opportunity to work with have helped me grow as an educator and provided me with the tools needed in order to be successful.
Throughout this English 280 course I have learned many things about reading, writing, research, and critical thinking. I have also learned about what potentials I have as a writer and what I can improve when writing. In this process I had also encountered some difficulties when it came to writing. At the same time I also feel that the difficulties I encountered have made me improve from my first essay to my recent essay when it came to the genre, process of writing and the rhetorical language used when writing. Even though my progress was not at all constant I still was able to earned satisfactory grades and learn more with each assignment. I still feel that I need to improve my writing and reading because I will need to use it for future courses, life events and career.
The concepts included in providing a more diverse, multicultural education are requiring teachers to review their own issues and prejudices while expanding their knowledge of the many cultures that make up the classroom. These efforts help the educator recognize the various individual and cultural differences of each student, as well as gain an understanding on how these differences impact the learning process. The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon individual and cultural difference research and why diverse students struggle to succeed in school. I will develop a curriculum around the student’s interests. The curriculum will foster intrinsic motivation and stimulate the passion to learn. One way I plan to do this is to; take learning in a direction relevant to student interest by inviting student dialogue about the lessons and units of study. Given the opportunity for input, students generate ideas and set goals that make for a much richer activity than I could have alone created or imagined myself. My cooperating teacher has been employed in the field of education for 19 plus years. She has been in her current position as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at the Lighthouse Learning Center for 12 years. Observing a teacher who has so many years of experience in the classroom is very beneficial. She shared with me this week her teaching philosophy that has evolved from her many years in the classroom. The components of her philosophy include a focus on people, strategies, and tools.
Throughout all the time I have been in school from pre-school to my senior year in high school. I have never really thought about how my education has come to shape me because I would only question it at the very end of the school year; what have I really learned this year?, but now that I am in college and my English professor is making everything eye opening it has made me aware that school has shaped me in some form. Most of my teachers follow a curriculum where it is not beneficial to me at all. The way I was taught this whole time affected me in a way I did not see because I adjusted to the environment. The reality is education has shaped me to have fear of deception, to accept, and to not question anything at all.
