After being an elementary education and special education major at Ball State University, I have had many new teaching experiences. This semester, I was given the opportunity to teach at Burris Laboratory School. It was great to observe a classroom with a teacher who had been teaching for so long! Although I know there will be challenges, I want to continue in the teaching program. EDEL 200 has allowed many experiences that has shown me how to be a successful teacher.

I will continue in the teaching program since I enjoyed working on my activity plans throughout the semester as well as applying what I learned when working with my students. I want to continue in the teaching program in order to gain the necessary skills to become a successful …show more content…

Specifically, I was able to emphasize the Social Competencies, such as Planning and Decision Making (32) through my activities. I would give the students a task and their job was to plan how they would personalize the activity. Additionally, the students had to make multiple decisions on what colors and materials to use. A Commitment to Learning was emphasized through Achievement Motivation (21). Through EDEL 200, this was seen when teaching at Burris because the activity would always begin with a motivation for the students to get excited about the project! The teacher accommodates the students’ background to understand the cultural identity. Additionally, the teacher must effectively motivate the students to stay engaged by interpreting their existing knowledge. I see multiple traits within myself when it comes to diversity responsive teaching. For example, I see a communication of high expectations, student-centered instruction and positive perspectives. I use appropriate instructional strategies and I take the time to learn about the students’
