Over the past year I have grown as both a person and a writer. My writing has improved immensely since my first, formal essay in English 111. My biases have changed, my style has improved, and the voice has matured also. Over the course of this past semester my instructor has pushed the limits of what my peers and I were comfortable to do as writers. From arguing a controversial topic such as longevity to presenting our opinions to the class, this semester had no time for slacking. My writing style used to be a “productive” procrastinator effort: I would think of the topic for days, form an argument, and find research that supported my claim. One of the major challenges I came across in Dual Enrollment is learning how to write about myself; in every English class before this, we were never to write about ourselves or our experiences, the words “I” or “Me” were taboo. On top of the lack of experience of writing about myself I did not even know myself as well as I thought: I had no idea what I was passionate about. The beauty of seeing my writing progress through this year is seen in the personal development that happened between these papers. When we were assigned the personal narrative at the beginning of English 111 I had no idea what to write about. In English 112, when we were assigned a multi genre that was arguing something, I immediately knew I was going to write about my only passion: fire and rescue. This whole project was me, my experiences, and my passion. I looked at both sides of the argument and tried to remove my bias of being a woman in fire and rescue and found that FDNY may have hired women who did not pass the original physical test, but the physical test itself had impractical tasks that someone with no fire experience would not
In English 1102, I was exposed to a variety of different genres, including, argumentative research paper, an annotated bibliography, an analytical paper, and a workplace specific piece. Entering this class the majority of papers I had written were all analytical, and in this class we went above and beyond the basic 5 paragraph essay. Though each paper had a different genre and style, I learned that each project was similar in composition.
My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness.
In the past three months I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the semester comes to an end I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Some how after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into the papers that I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas, with the attitude of, if I could just become better in those then I would become a better writer. With help from an awesome teacher and a reliable tutor I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.

As these few tales reveal, my memories of writing are strongly connected with the intense emotions I felt as I grew up. They are filled with joy, disappointment, boredom, and pride. I believe that each of these experiences has brought me to where I am today. I can only look to the future and hope that my growth will continue, and my writing will reflect those changes within me. As a writer, I have grown immeasurably and will continue to so long as I can find some paper and a pencil.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.

If anything, the most revealing facet of this particular research assignment was that I had to tackle the research from both the concurrent side and the opposing side of the argument. Due to the complex nature of the topics provided for this assignment, it required deeper analysis and quantity of research to pull an unwavering argument together. Being so, I had to be sure to gathering information from many different source types, with many different directions in tackling my chosen topic in order for me to provide a multifaceted argument. After collecting the necessary resources (i.e. reaching the source minimum for this assignment), I found myself needing to gather more information because as I started to write the original draft, I realized that I had too many patches that needed to be filled within my argument. It took more digging and precise investigating to find more resources to each claim I looked to
When we talk about English 1110, everyone actually knows the main part of the course is writing. The goal of this class is to improve structural, style of writing, thoughts and performances of students. During this semester, the curriculum includes essays and topics from many different aspects of different issues which are useful to me. From this class, I had the opportunity to improve my writing skills. For example, before writing a paper, I always have outline, strategies, arranging and modifying as well as finding ideas to improve my writing style in a better way. Before taking English 1101, I just wrote essay with what I think of that time and did not care whether my essay is understandable or not; however, i have been improved for the past three months. When I see a title, I start to write down all ideas and also create an outline and order of all documents in a reasonable manner. In addition, all response papers that I have done during this semester I started to have different way of thinking by listening my friend's arguments, feedbacks or comments, agreements or disagreements. Those group activities from friends were helpful because I started to recognize what are right and wrong things in my essay. From there, I have my own personal opinions and defend my arguments.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
When you are with someone every single day do you notice the changes that happen to that person over time? I bet that you don 't see the day that wrinkle is established and I bet you don 't notice if someone grew an inch. Only when compared with the past is when these changes are clear but to someone that sees that person every day nothing is out of the norm. Writing is similar to this analogy in the sense that the average person and especially the average college student writes nearly every day. Just as an essay from middle school looks nothing like an essay from high school, an essay from high school looks nothing like one from college and so on. In order to understand how these changes happen in the long term I am going to reflect on how they have happened in the short term and what I have improved on through this English 103 course. Reflecting on my writing has shown me that I have been progressing in nearly every aspect of my writing and I have excelled on my transitions as well as with source support integration.
