When asked in the beginning of this course what learning was to me, I stated it was discovering something new, working through it, and then putting it to good use. After reading through the textbook, I discovered what the true meaning of learning is. Learning is taking in the world around you, and connecting it to what you are experiencing. (Johnson, C.A., 2013, Intentional learning for college success, San Diego, CA, Bridgepoint Education, Inc.) My views of learning have not really changed, but I have discovered a lot about my learning skills. I have been taught how to put these skills to good use when taking my college courses and earning my degree. I can also use them in the outside world, which I catch myself doing all the time at work, …show more content…
Even though I did learn good things in this course I was one that did not like change. I learned how to FIT my patterns so I could learn the best ways for me to learn and study. I had to get use to the online course because this was my first time attending college online and I didn’t know how it would work out for me because I am so much of a visual learner. I had to learn how to learn in a different environment than what I was used to. Some ways I FIT my learning patterns were, I tethered my sequence by making sure I was staying on topic with my papers, and trying not to be so hard on myself when it came to my assignments. I tethered precision and kind of blended it with my sequence so that I knew my papers were clear and made myself very educated about each topic. With technical reasoning I would intensify and taught myself to break things down and took it step by step. I would revise my papers to the best of my knowledge before submitting them so I could feel confident in my work. Confluence I also intensified and took the risk when submitting my assignments, I always get my work turned in, but I want it to be correct as well. I also would put my own thoughts and feelings into each assignment so that I wouldn’t lose my audience’s
As Zig Ziglar once said, "If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you." Basically, Ziglar is emphasizing how learning can be accomplished, only if you put your mind to it. In “Learning (Your First Job),” Dr. Robert Leamnson shares his strong belief of beginning students entering the post-secondary education. Leamnnson discusses the many ways of learning that can be used in college, such as studying, notes, assignments, and exams. Leamnson continuously discusses how no one will learn unless they want to. Learning is a biological process that relies on the brain. Just like how our bodies need maintenance, the brain does too. College is a place where you learn things that help you later. Leamnson mentions how students are responsible for succeeding in college not by just showing up, but by putting in effort towards the classes they are taking. In order to succeed in the learning of the post-secondary education process, students should be aware of how to make notes, understand what they are studying, and take assignments seriously.
Learning is important for countless reasons, the most important reason being that it molds a person into who he or she is. What people choose to learn, and also what they choose not to, create the core of their opinions as individuals. Though people do not admit it or openly declare it, it is fair to say almost everyone is self centered. Because of this, and the fact that learning dramatically affects a person, learning is not only thrilling, but also expressive. Furthermore, since learning is expressive, its meaning varies from person to person, therefore making each person’s experiences with learning unique and life changing.
Learning, like religion, is a social experience.” Currently, I have a class that I am enrolled in, often I find myself asking “Why I am in this class?” I learn nothing from this lady, her notes are continuously blurry, and every single student is unable to read them. She talks in circles and expects everyone to be able to follow. Personally, I wish I would have taken an online course for this particular class. Everything I have learned in this class has been solely self-taught. To be prepared for the class, I pre-read the chapter we will be having a discussion about in addition to study the curriculum, still I cannot keep up or understand what is coming out of her mouth. I also feel that I am not the only one in class that is completely lost, which makes me feel better about the whole situation. Whereas I am also enrolled in another class, which I adore and value every single minute. This particular class requires an hour and forty-five minutes a day for four days a week. To think this class I feared the most when I enrolled at the beginning of school. Surprisingly now, it is by far my favorite! I have learned so much information in such a little span of time. It is truly remarkable, the change of mind I have had towards this subject! Credit is due to my professor, she is outstanding! Then, of course, I have this class! Comp 1, which as you know is online. There has been struggles, as I think I would have learned better with face to face encounters with my peers and involved discussion with other students and a professor, although I think I have managed to keep my head above the water so far. All- together, with only my brief personal experience given, you cannot say online courses are worse than an in class
According to Moreno (2010) , the term “learning”, can be defined as a “relatively permanent change in our thoughts, feelings, or behavior that results from experience “ (p.150)
I learned that I have a control issue and that my OCD gets in the way. I am not going to lie I contemplated several times about quitting online learning. I felt that I was not as smart as others are and when I would not get good feedback, I started to doubt my ability to go on. I am afraid to consult with my instructor for the fact of sounding less intelligent. When you got assignments that did not make sense that was because I was afraid to ask. What I enjoyed most about this class was getting a better understanding of what type of learner I am, and why I do the things I do. I never knew there was even a test that could tell you what type of learner you are. What I would change about this class is nothing. This class made you think about your learning. It did that plus some. My expectations were met because this class had a purpose to show each of us what kind of learners we are. It changed my mindset and it met my expectations
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
I stand awake and alert. A first year college student with my sights fixed firmly ahead and my goals just within reach. A positive light is cast upon my future endeavors. Yet, as I reflect upon my educational experiences, I find myself drawing parallels between the direction in which my life is headed now and the similar paths I have traveled along before. I am forced to ask myself if I am truly prepared for what lies ahead. I have asked myself the same thing many times. I was once in a similar position. A fledgling student wavering just between the lines of hesitancy and motivation. I was beginning my freshman year at Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham, Massachusetts.
Ever since I started talking this class, English 1301, with Dr. Piercy, I have been able to expand my writing and thinking skills. Not only was I able to make more better essays but I also learned important topics such as how education creates an impact in the world. In this essay I will be talking about three writings and how they are related to this course semester. The three writings are “On Bullshit” by Harry Frankfurt, “Why I Write Bad” by Milo Beckman, and “Statement of Teaching Philosophy” by Stephen Booth. How are these 3 writings related to this semester’s course work?
And as far as the educational value of the four courses, I couldn’t get the same out of an online course. We as students are all capable of reading chapters in a book and looking at power points, but we need to be taught, understand and realize what is on those slides (power points) being displayed and the reasons they are important… “Not just asked…did you get that or any questions?” So, to say that myself and other students are frustrated is to say the least.
The topic of what happens to those that have, "never heard the good news of Jesus Christ" weighs extremely heavy on my heart. I work with Atheist, Muslim, Hindu and Pluralist in the technology field. Frequently I am attacked just for being a Christian. For a while it was scary to know that I have become a minority in my own country. Some how each time I am attacked I love these guys that much more. My Hindu friend really knew nothing about Jesus before he met me. At lunch one day he asked me about Christianity and I was able to share with him the good news. But for some reason he rebeled and believes the Bible is, "the greatest book of fiction ever created." If not for the revelation God provided about His Word in my second year of Bible school, I probably would be a pluralist myself. I really want everyone I share Jesus with to go to heaven and it use to be tempting to think God might make an exception. However, there is only
When I think about what counts as learning to me, I think about my life. Just being able to live in this world to me is a learning experience, because I feel that my life is full of lessons and I believe that it takes lessons to learn in life. I feel that I have learned to understand learning more and to also understand the value of learning. As I get older I can comprehend subject matters more than I could ever do before. I am learning to be more serious and I find myself not taking life for granted anymore.
Learning is the activity that all of us have to do during our life. We have been learning since the moment we are born to the moment we die, this is the only way for us to survive and live normally in this world. Many people attend schools to gain knowledge, whereas others gain their knowledge from their experience in life, both ways provide us with much valuable knowledge. However, in my opinion, I think that experience is the more important source of knowledge.
I enrolled in my first online distance learning course in the fall of 2010 knowing that I had many challenges before me. I found this mode of learning fast paced, and challengin...
I have enjoyed many things about this class. One of the things that I have enjoyed was finding out about my learning patterns. I enjoyed finding out about my learning patterns because it has helped me so much in my life. I can have a conversation with someone and will try and figure out how they learn. I also enjoyed how everything was explained about what our instructor was expecting from us. I enjoyed this because it saves a lot of questions I may have needed to ask my instructor. Interacting with my peers is something that I enjoy as well. When I interact with my peers I feel like I am really in a classroom. Things that I would like to change about this class would be the responses from emails; I wish the responses would be quicker when there are questions. I feel that my expectations of online learning were met plus more. I feel this way because I am actually learning things and I am not just getting a grade because I turned information in. I thought online learning wasn’t serious; I was scared I wouldn’t get the correct knowledge as I would on
This class teaches you about learning patterns, what kind of learner you are and how to use your learning patterns together. A test can be taken to understand how use these patterns in everyday life. This test helps you understand if you use your patterns as a (use first, use as needed, or avoid). Once you figure out learn you patterns, and then you will understand better what type of learner you are. This can be a Dynamic, Bridge, or Strong-willed. This class also teaches you how to Forge, Intensify, or Tether your learning patterns. My views of learning have changed, because now I have a better understanding of why I favor one learning pattern more than others. However it has taught me to better FIT my patterns to help make learning easier.
