This class teaches you about learning patterns, what kind of learner you are and how to use your learning patterns together. A test can be taken to understand how use these patterns in everyday life. This test helps you understand if you use your patterns as a (use first, use as needed, or avoid). Once you figure out learn you patterns, and then you will understand better what type of learner you are. This can be a Dynamic, Bridge, or Strong-willed. This class also teaches you how to Forge, Intensify, or Tether your learning patterns. My views of learning have changed, because now I have a better understanding of why I favor one learning pattern more than others. However it has taught me to better FIT my patterns to help make learning easier. …show more content…
I take notes and re-read to make sure I understand what I am being asked to do. Writing stuff down helps me memorize what I have read. My LCI Sequence-31, Precise-28, Technical-18, and Confluence-24. Sequence having everything in organized, I feel like my life is in order. I double check my work and write down what needs to be done, so I can do them in order. Precision- I get complete facts so I can do my work correctly. I like to research my assignments so no changes have to be made. Technical- I always read the directions, I feel like if I don’t read the directions and try to put something together, I’m just wasting time. Confluence- when needed I brainstorm ideas. I like to get into my own routine. I try to do my work right the first time so I don’t have to do it over again. Having a better understanding of my learning patterns, allows me to intentionally use a chosen pattern and apply it to a specific situation. Whether academic or out in the world, knowing how to use my patterns will help me take advantage of each of them as I take in information and the world around
I find that I use more of technical reasoning and sequence in my day-to-day activities. I am the type of learner that learns hands on (technical reasoning) and I always have a daily checklist of things that need to be done (sequence). My LCI score were sequence 30, precision 32, technical reasoning 23, and confluence 25. I use my sequence pattern on a use first basis. I am always making to do lists, organizing lessons plans, and making sure my work in done in timely manner. I use my precision pattern on a use first basis as well. With precision, I find myself asking many questions. I am new to my career and I want to make sure I do things correctly and asking questions allows me to perform on a professional level. I also am a bit of a know it all. I know terrible trait but I find myself not wanting to repeat things that are not accurate therefore, I research everything. I use my technical reasoning on a use as needed basis. I really do enjoy doing things by myself. I am a hands on learner. I like to read the instructions while putting together the project. I use confluence on a use first basis. I like to do things my way. Doing things my way helps ease my OCD. Knowing that it is organized or filed in my way helps me function accurately. I also use confluence because I am the person who weighs out every situation with pros and cons. So, I tend to look at both sides of the story. All four of the patterns
I am a very hand on type of learner. I understand and remember much easier if I physically do it. I am one to never sit still for too long. I am a visual person I can remember things more if I see it over and over again. When taking a test I try to close my eyes and visualize what part of the book I saw that question and what was going on at the time to help. When I study or do my work I have to work for a little bit then get up and walk around do something else then refocused on my work. I am a person that touches it and can turn it this way or that, take it apart and put it back together I understand and learn it more. There is always so adventure to go on or something to do, fix, learn, or even just go for a
Learning is defined as a permanent change in attitude or behaviour that occurs as a result of repeated experience (Sims & Sims, 1995). Understanding one’s learning style has many advantages as it can help one to identify the learning method or activities that can help to optimise the learning experience. It has been suggested that the importance of one’s learning style has been identified through studies and research on how one can maximise the potential for success and further learning development (Honey & Mumford, 2006). Learning styles are unique to each individual and are developed in childhood (Chase, 2001). We all have different personalities; therefore we all have preferred learning styles that suit us best. The way one learns depends on preference. Some learn by observing, listening and imitating others and draw conclusions from their experience. There are several factors that affect our learning style; for example, background, culture, religion and environment can have a major influence on one’s learning.
Who would have ever thought taking a college course would require one to learn how to learn? It is a good concept we normally undergo at a very young age. At the pre-school age one will find children learning their strength and weakness through their playtime. As adults we almost forget we have to learn how to learn to continue growth in our workplace, school, and in life. In our second week of online classes I learned strengths and weakness in my learning style with the aid of learning assessments, personality spectrums, and time management logs. In this paper, I intend to describe the various components of my learning style and outline a plan to improve my time management and study skills.
Two of the most important study skills are setting goals and taking notes. A student may set a time goal, such as studying a few hours a week; set a general goal, such as trying to study hard and stay on schedule; set a specific performance goal, such as getting at least 80% of the homework problems correct. Another important study skill is taking notes. Students generally make two kinds of mistakes in taking notes. One is to try to write down everything the instructor says, which leads to confusing notes. The other is to copy concepts that they do not understand but hope to learn by memorization. Good notes are compromised of the following: 1) written information summarized in your own words; 2) outline the important concepts; 3) try to associate the lecture notes with the material text; 4) asking yourself questions and making up questions from the notes.
Learning styles are how individuals approach learning new concepts based on their strengths, weaknesses, and preferences. Acquiring and being aware of your learning styles is beneficial to accurately processing information that could be used for intellectual growth. Furthermore, learning styles are a part of how humans function and receive information from their world, so not being properly informed about this concept could bloom confusion, dysfunction, and chaos in society. Each learning style has a different goal and approach in interpreting information based on each individual’s abilities and should be regarded as being such. Nonetheless, it is a complex system that is produced to simplify and make sense of our world. Read/write was the
“A learning style is a way of learning and refers to the way that you learn new information” (2). Most people have one preferred learning style and perform to a lesser standard when learning in a different style than what they’re used to. Nowadays, children are told to take a quiz in school to determine what their preferred learning style is, but after a few years, not many of these children remember what their preferred learning style is, or even if they do, they don’t apply it to their learning.
Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
Each person has his or her own style of learning. Learning styles include visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. In the questionnaire, I learned that I am very much a visual learner. This reflection will show what I have learned about my unique learning style and how understanding learning styles of the children I teach will be helpful as I become a teacher.
In this course I experienced an important change in my beliefs about teaching; I came to understand that there are many different theories and methods that can be tailored to suit the teacher and the needs of the student. The readings, especially those from Lyons, G., Ford, M., & Arthur-Kelly, M. (2011), Groundwater-Smith, S., Ewing, R., & Le Cornu, R. (2007), and Whitton, D., Barker, K., Nosworthy, M., Sinclair, C., Nanlohy, P. (2010), have helped me to understand this in particular. In composing my essay about teaching methods and other themes, my learning was solidified, my knowledge deepened by my research and my writing skills honed.
In the 21st century, education has become one of the important and essential requirements for everyone, notably youngsters. Since it is so important, everyone tend to question and evaluate if the education system currently is the best for all the learners. One of the most frequently asked question will be, ‘ Is rote learning good for learners?’ Rote learning is a memorising technique by repeating a specific material again and again until you eventually started to memorize, either consciously or unconsciously. It is same as we listen a song repeat and repeat again, we will eventually remembered and memorized the lyrics without paying any great afford at all. This method has been used globally since long time ago. By rote learning, learners can easily recall what they had memorize as fast as possible, word by word. However, is this what we want to achieve through education, to memorize and stuff all those facts into our brain?
Everyone has a different view on how they learn and learning itself. First starting in EXP 105, my understanding of learning was new knowledge and becoming wiser. Taking EXP 105 has truly increased my knowledge of what learning is and the process of it. The most important thing I have learned about learning is that you observe the world around you, make sure it is understandable, and figure out the right way to respond. Learning also provides critical thinking skills. Everyone have different ways of learning and those ways are based on four different learning patterns. The four different types of learning patterns are Sequence, Precision, Technical Reasoning, and Confluence. Learning patterns are very helpful when it comes to everyday life, school work, and your job. Knowing your learning patterns and which ones you should use make
There are seven learning styles and techniques. The first kind of learner is a visual learner also known as a spatial, this is when someone prefers using pictures and images to understand a topic. The aural learner also known as the auditory-musical person, is a person who prefers using music or sound. There is the verbal learner or the linguistic person who prefers using words, both in speech and writing. Next is the physical learner also known as the kinesthetic learner, the preference of this learner would be using the body, hands, and sense of touch to learn. Following that would be the logical thinker or the mathematical person, who prefers using logic, reasoning and systems to learn. The social learner also known as the interpersonal learner is someone who prefers to learn in groups and with other people. This type of learning style can be great for student in the traditional classroom setting. Last there is the solitary learner or the intrapersonal person. This is someone who prefers to work alone and use self-study methods. This type of learner would best be fit in the online classroom setting. Knowing what type of learner, you are can be important in helping to improve the speed and quality of learning. It can help avoid putting a student in an awkward position. Learning styles can have a great impact on students just as much as the
Each of the three learning theories, Cognitivism, Constructivism, and Behaviorism, has worth and merit in my opinion. Yet, each one has its own unique qualities with one common factor, the learning process. It seems to me that the best teacher is one who would utilize all the theories of learning. However, if I look closely, I am most likely favoring one or two more than the others in my own instructional methods. I read the brief definition of these three theories and realized that I needed to examine a more in-depth explanation of each of them. The theory of cognitivism focuses on the mind of the learner
Thought out our lives, we are faced with many different learning experiences. Some of these experiences have made a better impact than others. This can be attributed to everyone’s different multiple intelligences or learning styles. A persons learning style is the method though which they gain information about their environment. As a teacher, it is our responsibility to know these styles, so we can reach each of our students and use all of the necessary methods.
