The Partners for Pearland scholarship would have a ginormous impact on my education. My Mother and Father are currently separated and I live with my Father. I will be very difficult for him to help me pay or my education. While I am in college I will be looking for a job that will give me some good hours to work around my classes and school work. If I receive this scholarship it will lift some of the weight off of my shoulders and also my father’s shoulders. My mother will also try to help with school payments but she doesn’t keep a job very well. I will depend on my job and I there is no other way then I will have no choice but to take out student loans. That is the last thing I want to do. I know I am probably not as qualified as most of
the other students applying or this scholarship but that is mainly because I had a lot more going on throughout high school. I was in the basketball program all four years and I also kept a stable job for three of the four years in high school. Even with my job and my basketball activities, I still managed to keep up with my school work. That must, somehow, show that I manage my time very well. For these reasons I feel this scholarship will have a huge impact on my college education.
I was born in 1995, which makes me part of “Generation Y,” also known as the “Millennials.” Millennials is used to describe the people born from 1980 up until the early 2000s. Millennials have been negatively described as selfish, lazy, and narcissistic, along with having unrealistic work expectations. As part of this “Millennials” generation, I agree. I believe as a society we are too focused on “us” and pleasing ourselves. We are selfish and do not understand what it means to suffer. I also believe it is not entirely our fault.
Upon the completion of my high school career I was faced with the sudden realization that I was growing up and on the verge of becoming independent. A few months prior, I had applied to Montana State and received my acceptance letter. The future was before me and my ambitions were truly limitless. That is, until the fact set in that I was going to have to pay for this education that I desired. I knew that with my busy schedule, I would be unable to make enough money while only working a few hours here and there. I was beginning to lose sight of hope. Then one day I talked to my counsellor about what I could do and he pointed me towards dozens of scholarships that I could apply for. The exigence or purpose
I have been saving my 4-H money for college this whole time. This scholarship will help with books and other experiences I can put towards, as stated before my family has a low income and is unable to assist me. I wasn't expecting anything. I am not Entitled to anything my parents have worked for, only to what I
I know that through my hard work and dedication I can make my goals a reality. However, it may not be possible without these Scholarships. While my parents will help me in any way they can, I am hoping that my hard work and dedication to my studies pays off. I am a very self-driven individual who will accomplish any goal I set my mind on achieving. I am also aware of how without scholarships I may face a financial setback. I am hoping that through the help of scholarships I will be able to achieve all my goals in a timely
In a world where most college freshmen do not graduate or dropout, i feel like it would mean to much more to me to graduate and be able to say I got my degree. studies have said that half of freshman will not complete there degree, another study said that 25% of freshmen will change their major before they finish their sophomore year. If i was given this scholarship money it would put me in a place where hopefully I won't become just another statistic. Another reason a college degree is important for me to achieve is so that i will be respected in my work industry of choice. When you are in a place of work, there is always someone who everyone looks up to because they know the most about certain things, but more often than not that person has the highest degree in his or her field. If I was awarded this scholarship i would be more capable of being that person because i would not have to worry about leaving school to figure out how I will pay off my
Throughout The Pearl, by John Steinbeck, the themes of greed and prejudice are greatly expressed, from the beginning with the unjust doctor to the suspenseful end of the supposed ‘Pearl of the World.’ It is amazing, that even in a timeless story as this one, these harsh realities still haunt their world. It could take place yesterday, today, or tomorrow, but the point is that one cannot revert the world to one way of thinking, that is why greed and prejudice still exist. One can try as hard as they want but there are going to be those who are stubborn, of hard will, and those who believe their thoughts are right. I want to show that these themes go far beyond this parable and apply to the world we live in.
Being an international student in the Master of Social Work program at MSU has been a positive transition in my life. I believe that this study abroad program to Mexico during 2014 spring break will help me to have a better understanding of Latino culture which will enhance my personal growth as well as furthering my professional goal of working with children of poverty as a social worker.
According to statistics, youth whose parents have not attended a post secondary are 19.8% less likely to attend university than those whose parents have. They also show a 12.8% gap between youth whose parents are in the bottom third of income distribution as opposed to those with higher incomes. On top of this, there's a 14.6% difference between youth from rural areas compared to population centres and a 7.5% gap between youth with one parent and youth with two. And yet, against all odds, I am writing to you today in the hopes of funding my education. I exhibit a majority of the characteristics you are looking for, such as leadership, financial need, a solid career plan and 2 and a half years of work experience. These are just some of the qualities that qualify me for the Harrison McCain scholarship.
In the small communities of northwestern Wisconsin, we typically do not realize how local businesses affect our everyday lives and play an important role in our community. How often do we walk into a business and are greeted by name by one of the friendly employees? Although this does not seem unfamiliar to us, we take for granted this value that comes only from local businesses. The friendly service and close relationships is only one of the many benefits of buying services from a local provider.
To elaborate, I am from a lower middle class family; consequently, my family has never been able to save up for my college education. Money has always been an issue with my parents, as my mother is deaf, which has complicated her ability to get a suitable job, and my
Having had to move to America with little knowledge of the American language, and few credentials and connections, building a new life for our family in America has easily been on the most daunting hardships of my parents' lives. The obstacles they have overcome in their journey from Greece, and having to start from nothing, constantly serves as my motivation to strive for academic success in hopes that I can one day ease the burden on them. Unfortunately for me, this path will most likely involve attending a university, whose yearly overall cost rivals the annual income of my parents. This, along with the fact that my sister is currently enrolled in college, and will continue to be so for at least another year only makes our financial situation
I first applied to the Brock Haywood scholarship in 2014. This was the first year I competed in reining or any other kind of horse show. I was encouraged by my trainer at the time, Sharon Davis, to apply to the scholarship and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The requirements pushed me past my “comfort zone” of being a bystander and allowed me to enter the reining community. I did gates for some classes and was able to put some names to familiar faces and come to understand and concur the nerves of the warm up pen. The last volunteering, I did was to assistant scribe. I loved it. I was able to see what the judge was seeing understand what components were most important to them. After the 2014 show season was over I continued to volunteer with the organization. Over next two years I graduated to a scribe and helped out in multiple areas of the horse show like announcing warm-ups and setting up for cook outs. Brock’s story inspired me to be supportive and more active with other youth members whether that was congratulated them for a nice ride or wishing them luck for next one. Through this I have made some lifelong friends and I am forever grateful for that.
To whomever it may concern, I would appreciate if you consider all aspects of my situation when reviewing me for financial aid. Although the tax forms you review state that the household income is a decent amount of money, the majority of that money comes from my step parent. Since I have started my college career I am used to getting close to no financial aid because of this. I have grown up the majority of my life from age two being raised by my single mother with no child support and her income of less than 20,000 a year. This case remains the same today, even though she has married, I don’t receive a penny of the money earned from my step parent. Ever since I was of age to work at 15 years old I have worked very hard, about 30 hours a week, while attending
I learned that life is going to throw you challenges and will attempt to set us back from our goals. Anybody can achieve any goal they set their minds to with hard work and determination. With my learning disability, I worked harder than those who were not limited in their strengths, but this turned out to be my ultimate strength. Working hard will only help you achieve in life. I view effort and trying as keys to success. I am a student diagnosed with a learning disability associated with my written expression, writing to your foundation because I never let a setback stop me from achieving my goals. I believe that I have an extraordinary message for others. I feel if I were the recipient for your scholarship it would definitely push me significantly closer to my goals coming from a son of a hard working single mother that I wish to give back what she has given
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
