Learning to me use to mean sitting down in a desk in a classroom, listening to a lecture, taking notes, and being able to regurgitate what was needed for a test. After taking this class I have learned that learning is much more, it involves being able to decode the text into a simpler format. While being able to think critically, about what is being said in the text. While bringing that information to my test and assignments I 'm sure that I will be more successful as I continue my education to obtaining my degree. While explaining learning to someone else I would explain it as stop over thinking about what your studying, take a few moments to look over the textbook, try and make it relate to something that you enjoy. Whether that be drawing, …show more content…
My learning is dynamic, it fits who I 'm extremely well. I have been applying this to finding a new job, breaking down the descriptions of them and analyzing what learning patterns will be needed for the job. My learning patterns are Sequence 27 Precision 27 Technical Reasoning 14 and Confluence 20. Sequence is one of my use first patterns. Every project that I start with work or school, I 'm reading the instructions to make sure that I will have a correct assignment. Also there is structure, something I thrive on. Precision is my other use first learning pattern I do enjoy gathering as much data on a subject as I can so I have a better view and argument in case there are any questions about the topic that was given to me. However I always have problems with my time management. Something that I 'm still having issues with. Technical Reasoning is my avoid learning pattern, and for good reason. I 'm able to put a nail in wood, but hand me a wrench and tell me that a pipe needs to be fixed. I have no idea …show more content…
I have started to gather as much useful information about a task or assignment. Then I begin to organize the gathered information, composing the information into list. I then start to make list of only the critical parts of the information, shorting them into more of bullet point quick references for the assignment. I then take the shortened information and begin to use my critical thinking to come up with ways to put the information into my own words. Using these things together have made me a more international learner, and thus making me a more successful
As Zig Ziglar once said, "If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you." Basically, Ziglar is emphasizing how learning can be accomplished, only if you put your mind to it. In “Learning (Your First Job),” Dr. Robert Leamnson shares his strong belief of beginning students entering the post-secondary education. Leamnnson discusses the many ways of learning that can be used in college, such as studying, notes, assignments, and exams. Leamnson continuously discusses how no one will learn unless they want to. Learning is a biological process that relies on the brain. Just like how our bodies need maintenance, the brain does too. College is a place where you learn things that help you later. Leamnson mentions how students are responsible for succeeding in college not by just showing up, but by putting in effort towards the classes they are taking. In order to succeed in the learning of the post-secondary education process, students should be aware of how to make notes, understand what they are studying, and take assignments seriously.
Learning is important for countless reasons, the most important reason being that it molds a person into who he or she is. What people choose to learn, and also what they choose not to, create the core of their opinions as individuals. Though people do not admit it or openly declare it, it is fair to say almost everyone is self centered. Because of this, and the fact that learning dramatically affects a person, learning is not only thrilling, but also expressive. Furthermore, since learning is expressive, its meaning varies from person to person, therefore making each person’s experiences with learning unique and life changing.
I find that I use more of technical reasoning and sequence in my day-to-day activities. I am the type of learner that learns hands on (technical reasoning) and I always have a daily checklist of things that need to be done (sequence). My LCI score were sequence 30, precision 32, technical reasoning 23, and confluence 25. I use my sequence pattern on a use first basis. I am always making to do lists, organizing lessons plans, and making sure my work in done in timely manner. I use my precision pattern on a use first basis as well. With precision, I find myself asking many questions. I am new to my career and I want to make sure I do things correctly and asking questions allows me to perform on a professional level. I also am a bit of a know it all. I know terrible trait but I find myself not wanting to repeat things that are not accurate therefore, I research everything. I use my technical reasoning on a use as needed basis. I really do enjoy doing things by myself. I am a hands on learner. I like to read the instructions while putting together the project. I use confluence on a use first basis. I like to do things my way. Doing things my way helps ease my OCD. Knowing that it is organized or filed in my way helps me function accurately. I also use confluence because I am the person who weighs out every situation with pros and cons. So, I tend to look at both sides of the story. All four of the patterns
Mr. Gardner defines it as, [Intelligence is] the ability to solve problems, or to create products, that are valued within one or more cultural settings (Helding, 2009). Learning is a skill acquired by action, it is by being taught, reading or by doing. Once the information that is being comprehended is understood the learning process is complete; however, no one is ever done learning.
Therefore, I need to strengthen my knowledge so I won't have missing links, have the right knowledge for any situation I encounter, and master the use of time management. I need these skills to become a successful student and pierce through the obstacle I came across. It is important for me to keep remembering these because not only they will help me become a successful student, it would also make me a great individual in the future.
First of all I sit down where I can really concentrate on my topic, and I make outlines. I
Learning is defined as a permanent change in attitude or behaviour that occurs as a result of repeated experience (Sims & Sims, 1995). Understanding one’s learning style has many advantages as it can help one to identify the learning method or activities that can help to optimise the learning experience. It has been suggested that the importance of one’s learning style has been identified through studies and research on how one can maximise the potential for success and further learning development (Honey & Mumford, 2006). Learning styles are unique to each individual and are developed in childhood (Chase, 2001). We all have different personalities; therefore we all have preferred learning styles that suit us best. The way one learns depends on preference. Some learn by observing, listening and imitating others and draw conclusions from their experience. There are several factors that affect our learning style; for example, background, culture, religion and environment can have a major influence on one’s learning.
Practice over theory is the essential key to my learning process. I easily memorize theory, or "book learning," of the actual material on a subject, for example, in Medical Laboratory Technology. Nonetheless, I excel in the actual, practical application of the information, performing procedures, specific tasks, or analysis in the hospital Lab setting. Also, part of the ISTJ academic scenario, which also reflects my learning, is the repetition boosting retention of the material, along with multiple ways of
I will high light key phrases or things that I know that is important to remember. I will go through my notes, my text book, lectures from class ect., and I will take pieces of information from different topics. These pieces of information are usually important to me, because they will remind me of other material that I just can not get stored into my memory, and fills in the blanks for me. Chunking works for me when I have so much material to try to remember that seems impossible to obtain it all, just chuck the info and viola, you will be prepared for the test, or to have the knowledge you
When I think about what counts as learning to me, I think about my life. Just being able to live in this world to me is a learning experience, because I feel that my life is full of lessons and I believe that it takes lessons to learn in life. I feel that I have learned to understand learning more and to also understand the value of learning. As I get older I can comprehend subject matters more than I could ever do before. I am learning to be more serious and I find myself not taking life for granted anymore.
By seeking and sharing knowledge. There is something to be said about being active and a continuous learner. However, what good is it by growing smarter if you
To me, learning is like a bee pollinating. I am the bee, and learning is the pollen which gets picked up from a flower and then gets dropped off to another flower. I used to think that everyone would learn in a different way than how I learned. I have always had trouble learning; lessons and anything that anybody told me, would somehow not stay inside my brain. I believe that one of the very first ways that we begin to learn is in a section that Temple Grandin discusses in her article. Doing community service was an experience that has shaped my outlook on life. Anything that I do has taken time a lot of effort, but it has paid off with the knowledge that I gained.
Everyone has a different view on how they learn and learning itself. First starting in EXP 105, my understanding of learning was new knowledge and becoming wiser. Taking EXP 105 has truly increased my knowledge of what learning is and the process of it. The most important thing I have learned about learning is that you observe the world around you, make sure it is understandable, and figure out the right way to respond. Learning also provides critical thinking skills. Everyone have different ways of learning and those ways are based on four different learning patterns. The four different types of learning patterns are Sequence, Precision, Technical Reasoning, and Confluence. Learning patterns are very helpful when it comes to everyday life, school work, and your job. Knowing your learning patterns and which ones you should use make
The first step of being a successful engineer is to have a systematic and efficient learning. It is very important for a student to understand the fundamentals and basic principles of engineering. For me, an expert engineer needs diverse skills and qualities, which will lift them to the higher level. I am now realizing that my approach to learning is not a way it should be. I found that by memorizing and copying out things are helping me to remember notes, but I know that these only just work for a short period. So I have to set out to understand the meaning of what I have to learn instead of concentrate my time repeating things, which are surface approach to learning. Now, w...
Simple approaches and flexible means are the key to effective learning. Monotony and regimentalized fashion of learning is usually not recommended for the growing minds to ensure that the minds remain open and accept more stimuli from the surroundings.
