The strengths of my Unit Plan are that I have tried many different types of lessons for my students. These included: Prior Understanding Discussion, Games Simulation, Interactive PowerPoint Slideshow, Map work, Primary Document Reading and Analyzing, Visual Image Interpretation, Film Analysis, Comparing and Contrasting, Continuum, Debate, Station Activities, Group Work, and Individual Research. I tried to incorporate these into the lessons more than once to address the wide arrange of learners: Visual, Written, and Verbal learners. I also worked on asking the students questions that were not just some basic factual questions to higher order thinking questions looking at themes and trends in history and in societies. This is why I choose the theme of Empires and the Rise of Empires. I wanted there to some general connection with these different groups of people all around the world. One major connection was the idea that they were all Empires in their own right, some more successful and well know then others. The second sub theme in this unit that I try to get the students to understand is the importance of culture blending and interaction. We addressed this issue throughout the unit and especially as the basic background to the whole unit. The weakness of my Unit Plan was at times I felt like I had to do too much of the interactive PowerPoint, to address some background information for each topic or group of people that was introduced. That took some valuable time out of the total time I had for my unit. Many times I felt that I was rushing through parts of my unit due to SGO’s, testing, assemblies, fire drills, or lockdowns. This is common for every teacher I just need to work on better adapting to the situation and changing my... ... middle of paper ... ... I should have done a better job checking up on the students and testing them on their research to see if they were finding the correct answers and answering all of the questions required. I would improve the Unit by the following ways: I would have tried to cut out some of the repetitive and weak in higher order thinking summative assessments. These would have been the notes and the vocabulary definitions for a given section in a chapter in their book. Sometimes I asked the students to do this and would only take one mini section out for looking at it more in depth. I should have done more hands on station activities where the students are looking at artifacts and answering questions on their purpose and nature. I will ensure that if I give a summative test on some of the content the students study it will be before I give them time to work on the unit project.
History has many examples of these three themes, and to record them all, you would need to write a book. The three themes discussed in this paper have been used to inform and teach young students that history is important; Therefore, it is important to know your history; if you don't learn from history, then you are doomed to repeat
It consisted of a time schedule detailing my plans in order of what I was going to do that day. I wrote a rough action plan of what I wanted to do for the practical performance before I had met up with my model. After meeting her and taking test cuttings of her hair, it was clear that I would need to carry out a colour correction and therefore change my action plan. I also made small changes to how I planned to do my adaptation and so I applied this to the action plan too. Once I had made the changes, I had greater clarity and understanding of exactly what I was going to do and the amount of time I had to do it. I followed my action exactly as I had written it and this allowed me to manage my time effectively and even finish earlier than expected. I consider my action plan as being of great benefit to me as it prevented me from straying from my plans and therefore avoiding any failings during the practical performance. I felt my action plan helped me to feel calm in a situation where I might have felt under pressure due to time constraints. Knowing what I was going to do and how long I had to do it, gave me sufficient control and I could therefore project manage the practical performance of the Graded Unit. I find that the action plan is a great way to help me analyze how well I could project manage and carry out the practical performance as I can review the plans that I made and if I followed them and stayed on schedule or whether I needed to make any changes. If changes were to be made on the day, the action plan would have helped me to stay calm by listing everything I wanted to achieve without forgetting
During the Civil War, the South was destroyed. A lot of the fighting happened in the South and the towns and cities were ruined. People all across the United States agreed that the south needed rebuilding. There were different plans that were made up to help rebuild the south. People had different ideas of which plan to use and nobody could agree on one plan. This time of rebuilding the south is called the Reconstruction. There were three major plans. There was Lincoln’s Plan, the Radical Republican Plan, and Johnson’s plan. Lincoln’s Plan got its name from Abraham Lincoln, the creator of this plan. The Radical Republican Plan was the congress. It got its name because it was considered a more radical, or extreme, plan. Then, Johnson’s Plan was named from the creator, Andrew Johnson. This plan was also sometimes called “Restoration”.
The purpose of this paper is to defend the argument that the Virginia Plan gave too much power to the national government. On May 29, 1787, Virginia delegate Edmund Randolph proposed what became known as "The Virginia Plan Written primarily by James Madison, the plan outlines of what would eventually become the United States Constitution: a national government consisting of three branches with checks and balances to prevent the abuse of power. It describes 2 houses: one with members elected by the people for 3-year terms and the other composed of older leaders elected by the state legislatures for 7-year terms. Both houses would use the population as a basis for dividing seats amongst the states. Each of the states would
Seeing a list of them alone can be very off-putting. Teachers need to do a much better job of connecting history to today, and placing a greater emphasis on how young people could learn from past mistakes. “Good minds see connections-that is the skill we need to develop in our children,…” (Hakim p. )In a study by Michelle Anderson: CONNECTING THE PAST TO THE PRESENT: STUDENT MEANING MAKING IN A MIDDLE SCHOOL WORLD HISTORY CLASSROOM, she concluded that “students were able to make meaning of the past by relating the past to today through current events, finding similarities and forging a connection, and adapting events in the past to fit today.” (Anderson 2011). Even when they can see the logical connection from the present to the past, sometimes the emotional connection is not completely there. Finding the connections that make sense for students depends on many factors, including the curriculum, the resources to teach with and the time available for students to learn. Connecting to student interests is possible but may be difficult. But it nothing an enthusiastic teacher and good lesson planning can’t fix. Also, because the changing of the times there are some that suggest that students will find it more interesting if the lessons were taught less through textbook and more effective with the use of multimedia and instructional
The reconstruction of the Union or the United States of America was one of the most trying times in the country's history. After Robert E. Lee surrendered the confederate army, so began the reconstruction period. The first plan for reconstruction was the Lincoln plan, which was lenient plan, which was called the 10% plan. So in this plan, all of the confederates would be pardoned except for high ranking officials and war criminals, but they had to swear allegiance to the Union. The reason though, why it was called the 10% plan, was because after ten percent of the state swore allegiance to the Union, then the states could form a new government. There were only four states that could abide by this plan, and those states were Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Virginia. Shortly after that, Lincoln was assassinated. Next after Johnson became president, his plan came into effect, which was very similar to Lincolns, but instead of just High ranking officials not being able to the oath, wealthy farmers could not take the oath as well, because of Johnson's fear that the Black peoples would rise up and take over the South. The final plan, was the congresses plan. The plan from congress was that which would help out slaves, as most of the states were not
What did you plan to teach and/or do (transitions, management, accommodations, etc. )? Did you teach the plan you made?
The Weimar Germany was born from the ashes from a devastated Germany from World War One. With the Weimar came two ends, the left end which were liberals and the right end which were conservatives. The main goal of the Weimar government was to reorganize Germany’s problems by recovering from land and money loss. In fact, the Germans leading the Weimar were so competitive that they made it a personal show the other European nations that they can be as honorable and successful and anyone else. Unfortunately, even if the Weimar government was a brilliant and prosperous idea, it was disliked by the majority of the German population. The government was so over scrutinize that it created tension amongst the people who ran it. With such hate and scrutiny,
This semester could have gone better, my time management efforts would have greatly benefited my grades if I had improved them more early on. I found myself still struggling with old habits and staying up late to finish assignments that could have been done already if I had just planned ahead. This work did not fair as well grade wise as assignments that I took time to write and send to either Arlene or meet with the writing support center to go over. In the same time management regard I feel as though I could have prepared better for smaller quizzes, as that was a major downfall of mine in Theory. Multiple times with very easy assignments and quizzes I would neglect to do them in a timely manner or I would not take the quiz grade as seriously and not prepare accordingly. I will use the time management and planning strategies Arlene helped me develop to improve these areas and take advantage of easy to earn
... a great trial run for me. I will use what I learned during this time for future reference. For example, if I am teaching something and everyone gets it wrong on a test I will have to re-evaluate myself and the way I am teaching. I may even have to find another way to teach it. I also have learned a trick that I will use with my students one day; to make side notes on what they missed and why they missed it. Sure it may take more time but some students have a fear of talking to teachers at first, so by doing this they won’t always need to talk to me, but if they feel that I am wrong with their grade they may have the courage to approach me. I really want to teach the students about the importance of keeping a planner too, not only because it helped me stay organized, but because of how much it helped me in general. I want the students to get the most out of my class.
First, I will discuss preparation. This is probably the most important aspect to classroom management. A teacher is left without any way to prove his or her authority without being prepared for the class and the students. The most effective way to prepare for class is by way of a lesson plan. A lesson plan is a common outline system used by teachers to make sure they stay on pace with the required curriculum. www.thinkport.org is a website that offers examples of different types of lesson plans, showing teachers what format in which they should construct their lesson plans. Cherie McGovern, author of these example lesson plans includes a brief overview of what is to be covered, a list of sources from which the material is derived, and a list of materials that will be necessary for the teacher to have in order to successfully complete the activity. She also includes post-lesson instruct...
The understandings I have gained from this course have completely revamped my way of teaching. I have been using the unit plan and curriculum map I created in this course for the past two years, and my students enjoy it more and more each year. Learning the importance of using big ideas and essential questions in the classroom have made me a better educator and has assisted my students in learning content and skills that they can transfer to all academic areas and into their everyday lives. I now use big idea and essential questions in every ...
I did not realize it would take as much time as it did. Our group really wanted to get it right and perfect it as much as possible. I also discovered that collaboration enhanced the lesson’s creativity and variety of activities. I had previous ideas about what I thought would be good for each 5E section. After meeting with my fellow classmates multiple times throughout the weeks, I see now how the lesson plan got better and better each time we planned. It became more creative and included variation with activities. With lesson planning, I realized that it has to be detailed in order for the teacher to be fully prepared and be through as if a substitute teacher or another colleague was going to perform this lesson plan. At first, the lesson plan seemed tedious and going to be large commitment. After completing the lesson plan, I learned that every step and component had a purpose
... field supervision after the term break. Given the chance to conduct the lesson again, I would definitely try to calm my nerves more so as to be able to remember my lesson plan better and think through my questions more clearly. I would also emphasize and remind the children of the rules at the start of my lesson to ensure a smoother lesson flow. Should I have had more time to prepare, I would have probably written a clearer and more specific lesson plan, created more effective and engaging materials and chose a more suitable storybook.
