Hello Dr.Schaaf,
I have just received my official grades on banner and it unfortunately appears that my efforts to achieve a cumulative 3.0 GPA have not been met, though there were great strides toward that effort. I have been having routine meetings and communication with Dr. Herge on actions I can take to continue to progress with the program. While my cumulative GPA has not reached the needed 3.0 it has raised significantly as has the difference between Fall and Spring semester GPAs of 2.25 and 3.43 respectively. Unfortunately with the cumulative GPA only reaching 2.84, it is not enough to get me out of academic probation. I am writing to you to request that you consider extending my probation so that I may continue the program and further

One of the main methods that assisted my learning was using the supports around me, which is something that I did in the first semester way too late in the game. I have never been one to ask for help even when I am aware I would benefit from it, this experience has taught me that receiving assistance is not a bad thing but can grant more piece of mind, improve understanding and help change my habits for the better. I have met with Arlene Lorch over the semester to go over simple tweaks to my study and time management habits to aid in my success that have helped dramatically. In addition Arlene and I would go over study guides and assignment rubrics to possess a more in depth expectation of assignments to ensure my success. In addition, I have met with my SOTA mentor and Neuro tutor LaRee Henry on a regular basis to solidify my neuro understanding, she also taught me new ways of learning that I would have never tried on my own as I immediately dismissed them before such as drawing pictures and concepts out on …show more content…
This semester could have gone better, my time management efforts would have greatly benefited my grades if I had improved them more early on. I found myself still struggling with old habits and staying up late to finish assignments that could have been done already if I had just planned ahead. This work did not fair as well grade wise as assignments that I took time to write and send to either Arlene or meet with the writing support center to go over. In the same time management regard I feel as though I could have prepared better for smaller quizzes, as that was a major downfall of mine in Theory. Multiple times with very easy assignments and quizzes I would neglect to do them in a timely manner or I would not take the quiz grade as seriously and not prepare accordingly. I will use the time management and planning strategies Arlene helped me develop to improve these areas and take advantage of easy to earn
My name is Kaha Salad and I am appealing my Satisfactory Academic Progress suspension. Autumn semester of 2013 was a difficult time for me, I was going through many different changes in my life and I just didn’t know how to adapt. I experienced a personal event in the summer of 2013 that made my life change forever. My Grandmother Khadija died, she was the light of my family’s lives. My mother was immensely affected by her death, she went into a state of depression and she then stopped working. I took it upon myself to help out my grieving mother and get a job to help pay with the bills that was piling up. I began working
I’ve often wondered what it would be like to be on academic probation. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences reviews all students at the end of both the fall and spring semester and summer term to determine their academic standing. Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences must maintain a 2.0 cumulative KU GPA in order to be in good academic standing. Students below the cumulative KU GPA of 2.0 are placed on probation (KU.edu). Freshman and sophomores on Probation (between 0 – 59 completed hours)
I am writing this email to appeal me being put on academic probation. I believe that there was a factor of my education that the academic board has missed, and I wish to clarify what exactly it was.
The top three highest learning style results were: social (at ten points) and physical and solitary (tied at nine points each). I was surprised at the social learning style result the most. I personally believed that, depending on the subject matter, I tended to focus more on the tasks at hand if I study on my own. However, upon further introspection, I have concluded that I do much better most of the time if I have at least one study partner. I am less likely to take unnecessary breaks, get distracted by my cell phone, or zone out. However, there is a limit to my social learning capabilities: if I have more than 2 partners in my study group, I am inclined to become more distracted and less focused. A group setting also helps me in regards to the physical aspect of my learning style. While visual aids do help me, I am very much a hands on learner. Especially in regards to topics like science, being able to use my hands and sense of touch greatly increases my understanding and retention of the subject matter. This also means that I feel restricted in a traditional lecture style class. I had noticed this about myself, and over the years have employed several tricks to help keep my focus. One of the most successful one I have experienced is also one that is suggested in the assessment results: extensive note taking. I hadn’t thought to employ tricks in my study habits to help with the trapped feeling, and the suggestions provided were very helpful. I have now started to use flash cards, brainstorming diagrams and even educational toys to help with my more difficult classes – like anatomy and physiology. Being able to handle the materials is extremely beneficial, and utilizing different mediums and techniques prevents me from being bored and losing

Now that I am well into my sophomore year of college, I think that I finally have a good idea about time management. Being a full time student in twenty credit hours that is working part time can feel overwhelming at times. There were times in the last year where I felt like I had too much to do, and not enough time. This caused me so much stress, but I couldn’t be mad at anyone but myself. I procrastinated by spending too much time watching TV, and on social media. However, that was not the case at all. Luckily, with time I have learned to get ahead when possible, and to make to-do list. That allows me to get assignments done
I am writing today to appeal my academic probation status so that I may continue receiving the Pell Grant for my studies. I have had an obvious stumble in my beginnings with FAU but I am certain that with steps I've taken this summer I will be back on track to a good academic standing while completing my bachelor's degree. After withdrawing from two classes this past spring I dropped below the 67% required completion rate. Despite this, I persisted and paid for a summer class myself. I also withdrew from this second-attempt class.
Probation is a sentence entailing the conditional release of a convicted offender into the community under the supervision of the court (in the form of a probation officer), subject to certain conditions for a specified time (Siegel, 2017, p. 467). Successful probation depends on few factors revolved around the probationers’ life. The more stability a probationer has in their life, the more successful they will be in completing probation orders. Being married with children, living in an area for two or more years, and employment are the top reasons why probation is successful (Siegel, 2017, p. 478). If someone has the support of their family and friends, has a stable job and
During my first semester in college, I learned about time management, budgeting, study skills, and essay/writing. Time management has given me the advantage to plan my work ahead of time and use my time however and whenever I want. As students, we do not have our parents or guardians to let us know about arriving to class or going to work. We must be independent and take full responsibility of our actions. We have to make the time on our own by becoming organized and improving our punctuality. Ever since I have been here, I became organized and punctual. I take the time to clean and organize my room. The idea may seem dull, but I like cleaning. I also organize clothes, food, and personal products. My punctuality has improved as well. I arrive
You cannot write a paper on probation and not mention the father of probation, John Augustus. Augustus was born in 1785, in Woburn, Massachusetts. Augustus was a shoemaker in Boston. In the year 1841, he convinced a local police judge to have a common drunkard stay with him. The drunkard needed to sober up and become a productive member of society. During the drunkard’s three-week stay with Mr. Augustus, he was able to find a job. He also agreed to sign a pledge with Mr. Augustus stating, he wouldn’t get into any more trouble. Mr. Augustus was deeply upset that common criminals, who haven’t been in trouble before, were given the same harsh sentences like murderers, thieves, and people who committed other unsavory crimes. Augustus is credited for founding the investigation process. One of the concepts is modern probation, the other two being intake and supervision. By 1858, John Augustus had helped 1,946 people with bail.
In this class, I worked to remain organized in order to turn in all of my assignments on time. I also made a point to be on time or early for class every day.
Unfortunately this semester was incredibly difficult for myself, as well as for many of my fellow students. To begin, the labs were extremely difficult, and there was next to no help from the TA's. My TA's name was Priti. Although I believe Priti is also a nice person herself, she was incredibly difficult to work with throughout the term. I'm not sure how much Priti was supposed to help us during our lab times, but she did a very poor job of sufficiently explaining each lab. Often times, after hours and hours of work on the labs, I would hand in my work with very little confidence in what I had just completed. The labs throughout
... so poor my second semester and I was not able to perform. This fall semester I did, though I had difficulties with CHEM 330. During the spring semester, the reason why I did not contact any school officials was because I honestly did not know that they offered help with health issues. Instead I sought help from Health Services, though I did not receive much help, because I believed that once the health issues were improved, I would be able to improve my academics. This fall semester, I kept in touch with my advisors about my academics, but did not receive counsel on who to contact about the impact my health had on my studies, which I now know was the Office of Student Life. I feel prepared to perform and really do not want to be penalized over something I did not have control over. I do not see myself doing anything other than studying. I believe I belong at Brown.
Many people can struggle with managing their time. Choosing to go to a party on the night before your final exam can be an example of not setting priorities. Finding the time to do your task, whether it’s school related or not is important. If you don’t have a balance in your day to day life you can be faced with procrastination. For instance, being involved in too many after school activities can take a toll in academic success. You can find yourself fighting with time, trying to get those last hours back. The thought of getting an assignment done will be left the night before it’s due because you think it’ll get done. Then you’ll realize you needed more time for the assignment or you see that you have no time to finish it. Poor time management can lead to
Laying around during my free time, instead of working on my homework, always sets me up for failure. I often find myself waiting until the last second to complete my assignments, sometimes however, I find myself not doing some assignments at all. This impacts my grades because they often drop until I finish my assignments. My grades dropping make me look bad to my parents and cause tremendous stress to myself. My lazy attitude towards homework causes me to wait until the last second to complete it. Having a short amount of time to complete my work causes me to rush and easily get frustrated. When I am frustrated, I cannot learn properly, and being unable to learn the information on my homework can cause bad scores on my test which effect my grades even more. If I had just worked on my assignments before they were due then I could avoid all the problems that my laziness caused. Every thing has a due date, and unlike Price Prospero, I know that you cannot avoid things that you do not like
