For those who are unfamiliar with me and my successes, you might wonder why you should listen to me. What do I know about business and how could I possible teach you anything, you might ask yourself? Well, admittedly, I am no financial guru like Dave Ramsey or business tycoon like Richard Branson, but I have found success.
My success has come in the form of over a million dollars in sales on Amazon and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of products sold on eBay. I also have taught courses to eager students who have used my method with success on a worldwide scale. So, again, why should you care? Well, you should care because I am a very unlikely entrepreneur, a fact which should inspire you if you are also not the type to succeed in business.
Not because I want to brag about how great I am or share what I have accomplished simply for the sake of sharing. No, I want to share my success story because I want everyone who reads this to know that they too can find success. I know this is true because I have seen this exact scenario play out in my own family. For example, my aunt, uncle, cousin, sister and step-mom have all started successful online businesses after learning the very secrets I plan to share with you. In addition, many individuals who I have coached have started with nothing only to build their own unique success story. So, I want you to know before beginning this book that this is not just my story, it is real-life advice that is practical and easy-to-implement for
In fact, people are always asking me what the secrets are to my success. When I tell them the secret is hard work that often results in an even greater interest. They lean in more, get a bit closer, like maybe I will whisper the real secret quickly in a hushed tone, because surely I didn’t really mean hard work is the secret. But, in truth, the real secret is often not what they want to hear. It isn’t a magic pill or secret formula that you can do A, B, C and then realize unheralded
I agree with Gladwell that hard work can lead to success. Too often we think success happens because someone has money or gets lucky. This is wrong. Success takes hard work, imagination, and motivation. “Success is not a random act. It arises out of a predictable and powerful set of circumstances and opportunities.” (Gladwell 52) If you assert yourself and use your mind and imagination, you can create those
Today, in the business world, there are many influential and successful men and women; however, one particular man has influenced my life, as a role model and inspiration. Matthew Menner is the senior vice president of strategy for Transplace, Inc. He works for a leading third-party logistics and technology solutions provider, focusing on transportation management business processes outsourcing. Throughout his life he has held many jobs, but they all have one thing in common: each job he has received is from his network. Though his jobs are respectable, it is not just those that have inspired me; it is how he got there and the process of becoming a successful business leader that motivate me. Matthew Menner graduated from Green Mountain College, where he received his associates degree in liberal arts. From there, he followed his dream of working on the railroad and went to college at Syracuse University and completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration-marketing management, and masters in transportation and distribution-marketing management (Green Mountain College). After meeting Menner during a presentation at Castleton State College, I realized he reminded me of myself. His inspiring story encouraged me to believe I can and will achieve my goals because of the determination and drive he has shown me I possess. I know I can accomplish the unimaginable, because of Menner’s success.
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
Catel and Bocquet’s Kiki de Montparnasse explores the transition of Alice Prinn, the title character, from an innocent-minded child to a renowned artist, "Kiki," who believes that there are more opportune and exotic places in the world she should discover, specifically America. As a youthful schoolgirl, Alice’s view of her country was undeveloped and incomplete, and was primarily influenced by her Grandmother and her grandmother’s generation’s perspective. For example, at the Bastille Day fair, Alice was filled with euphoria only because she was going to mingle with all of her friends, wear a beautiful dress, and dance endlessly. Meanwhile, the older generation solemnly expressed their nationalism with formal attire and a holiday celebration for their homeland, France. As Alice Prinn moves from her naïve country life to a more independent lifestyle in Paris, her views on nationalism change. Kiki demonstrates a rejection of nationalism, which was explored by Anderson in his theory of “imagined communities,” through her ambition to become famous.
The best investment anyone can make is an investment in them; we must first distinguish and understand how to do so, and take the appropriate actions. “Obviously building character of total integrity and living the life of love and service that creates such unity isn’t easy. It isn’t a quick fix.” (Covey 318) With the knowledge I have learned and retained from reading this book, I have begun my transition to becoming a highly effective
The lesson on success and not giving up was one of the most important things I learned about entrepreneurial thinking in this class. This lesson really impacted me because it showed me that even people we consider extremely successful today were told they could not do it and failed multiple times before their success.
Accomplishing your aim or purpose can be the true definition of success. You must want to achieve your goals at hand. You must want to earn everything. You really should put in the effort needed to become a successful person. Becoming a successful person requires you to be an extraordinary character. This means you have to be a very self-disciplined, competent, and trustworthy person. That allows you to become more trusted within the community and earn more respect. Learning from your mistakes is essential to your success. Every time you fail you become more knowledgeable on a subject. You can fail as many times as you want but eventually you will learn what is right from wrong. This will lead to you to become open minded and achieve success. You will have to put in the time and effort. Planning ahead allows you to have a schedule so you won’t be behind. If you have a plethora of skills, you will have a higher chance of success than other people. Skills allow you to qualify for certain positions and allow you to excel in what you need to. You can have time to achieve your goals and predict what else you need to do. Success can come in many ways including family, money, fame, respect, and achieving your goals. There are many ways to achieve success but these are only a few ways. Only you can decide who you want to be and determine your own goals. You’re the only person who can judge your
The success of a business is greatly dependent on its entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone who takes the financial risk of starting and managing a new business venture. In order to be a successful entrepreneur, one must be ready to take a risk and invest one’s own savings into a business. The job requires that the individual be ambitious and committed to working hard in order to achieve the set targets. A successful entrepreneur is able to multi-task and communicates effectively with people, possessing leadership qualities such as confidence and motivation. The individual must play the role of constant motivator and inspire employees to improve their work performance, whilst ensuring a comfortable environment for the employees to work in. According to Schumpeter (1982), an entrepreneur is more of a ‘heroic’ than an ‘economic’ figure; his motivation should not solely be monetary, rather stemming more from inspiration and ambition.
After doing the lesson, I felt that many things went well. According to the class evaluations and observation, the class really enjoyed the 4 different explore sound stations. The stations allowed for self-discovery, but were also structured enough for the teacher to have control. Classmates also liked the pictures that went along with the vocabulary terms. I think we did well with monitoring the students. We made sure the students were ready to continue to the next thing by having them give us “a thumbs up/ thumps down”. Lastly, I thought we did a great job at starting the lesson off strong with an engaging activity with the various sounds played from a cellphone app. It caught their attention and got them curious as to what
Often times, I can’t help but wonder what my life would be like if I haven’t been exposed to the world of business; a wonderful career that changed my life completely. I have taken interest in business career because I love calculating numbers and interacting with people; But most importantly, my fascination in business came from my grandfather. He taught me many valuable tips on how to be a successful person, and most certainly how to run a business. He was not only a successful businessman, but also a respected individual. One of the businesses that he owned was a company called “Wu Long Tea Factory”. The main thing that they produce is tea of course, but they also have products such as cakes, candies, and all kinds of stuff. By being the production manager’s assistant of this company, I was able to experience everything that was going on in the factory. Even though that was the background I grew up in, my biggest fascination wasn’t in being a manager in a factory; it was the finance part that got me all excited. Often times I can even see myself sitting in my office and work on clients’ financial profiles and statements. I also took extra math classes and participated in many of the competitions in order to prepare myself to succeed in this particular field. Other things that I also did to get me well prepared are joining school activities, applying internships, and having jobs. I believe that all my hard work will pay off, when I see myself as a successful businessman.
I have been studying, writing about, teaching and applying the principles of successful living for close to forty years now. These principles are timeless, changeless and there for everyone to apply and benefit from. I have also discovered that the principles of success are often misunderstood, feared, misrepresented and lied about. None more than the principle of self-confidence.
Success take work and determination, perseverance, and I am prepared to work hard so I can succeed. If history has thought me anything is that, it does not matter how many time you fail the one time that count is when you succeed. When things do not go my way, I go back and find out where I went wrong and I try again, however many times it takes to get it right. My mother is the best example of success that I have witnessed, she is a strong, dedicated women that have accomplished plenty without a solid education. She was born in a third world country, she lost her parents when she was eleven, and she did not receive any education from that point forward. However, she was determined not to live in poverty her entire life, she took the fifty dollars that she had at that time and became a merchant, buying and selling whatever she could find. Because she had a vision, now I am in the U.S receiving a good
1. WHY? Develop your "why". As an entrepreneur, not all times you have in business will be perfect. In fact, there will be many, many difficulties along the way. However, if you can develop your why, you can achieve success. Your why must be this personal, passionate, emotional drive that keeps you going, when the world tells you to give up. It is the reason you commit and work so hard. Pushing on when it seems all the odds and world is against you. Your "why" becomes your driving will to wake up and do it again tomorrow.
Even though the definition of “success” has a very nuanced meaning depending on its culture and context, highly successful people typically exhibit the same universal characteristics. For despite common belief, successful people are not affiliated with some exclusive club and it has to do more with attitude than superior I.Q intelligence. Therefore, many people have the ability to learn about how they can be successful and do better than they are now. Due to having the privilege of interacting with successful people on a daily basis, I gradually coined my own theory of success. In addition, interviewing successful college students for the basis of the EPE course project has managed to further support and strengthen my theory. Yet rather than just being applied to an academic setting like a college or school, theses theories can be slightly modified to be applied in other aspects of life as well. It should be worth emphasizing that exhibiting some of these traits are likely good indicators of being a successful person, however there are a lot more not mentioned. For due to their vast variety, it would be extremely difficult to talk about each of them individually. As a result, I have taken the liberty of grouping them into broader categories and have listed them in no particular order.
We learned a lot of things in this course, but I think the most important lesson I learned is that it’s not easy to be an entrepreneur. I was surprised to hear in the first class that 80% of startups fail, but after reading The Art of Start and E-myth Revisited I understood why this happens more often than one might expects. Some people start their own businesses for the wrong reason and some start with wrong mindset. I’ve always thought that if someone has a brilliant business idea and hardworking they will succeed and grow their business. However, now I know that there are many things to consider before starting any business. In fact, there are many strategies that an entrepreneur could follow to achieve success, such as know your customers, work “on” the business, and how
