This past October, Alpha Phi, a sorority here at the University of Arizona held its 11th annual Red Dress Gala. Held on parents weekend, the Red Dress Gala is a casino-style event filled with an auction, fun games and dancing. This event is held to not only benefit members and their parents, but to raise money and awareness for Women’s Heart Health. This year, the chapter's goal of raising $50,000 was easily attained through a multitude of methods. Ticket sales and the auction contributed to a significant amount of the goal, although the majority can be attributed to generous donors. These contributions were collected through an effective method used by many organizations: fundraising letters. Through a very specific process, these letters are sent out to wealthy individuals and corporations in hopes of receiving a donation. Depending on the magnitude of the organization, fundraising letters …show more content…
Multiple drafts are run by numerous members of the marketing department in order to construct a letter that addresses all of the issues at hand. This may take weeks to write a letter that is approved by all members. Fundraising letters can be distributed one of two ways. The old fashioned “snail-mail” or the modernized email. Depending on the method used to get the word out, a few extra elements are needed. For snail mail, postage is crucial to getting the letter to the intended reader. Time is a component that is involved in this method as well. It usually takes 5-8 business days to receive a letter in the mail, therefore that needs to be kept in mind. If time is a possible limitation of the recipient receiving the letter, an email can be sent which is arguably less effective, due to the fact that “snail-mail” seems more personal to the reader. If the organization decides to draft an email, clearly, the proper technology is required from both
During the fundraising they raise money so that they could provide funding for goals. They aim to make changes and improve the lives of those that are struggling with cardiovascular disease. For this to be done the British Heart Foundation needs to raise the money that could enable them into having the right funding, providing them with the right service for their cause. However, their funding doesn’t only come from events they also sell seconds hand products which is donated. The goods they sell is also affordable to their customers, for instance, TV cost £25 and wardrobes cost
While there are many small happenings throughout the year, the main focus is on “The Big Event”. This is a 12-hour long dance marathon where dancers who have spent the year raising money for the cause dance their hearts out, get to meet the children part of the Children’s Miracle network and their families, and have opportunities to continue giving (whether through signing up to donate bone marrow or having hair cut for Locks of Love). During this big party, attendees are not allowed to sit/lay down or have any caffeine. This is to try and replicate a tiny bit of how the kiddos feel on a daily basis, having to go through treatments and long hospital stays while still trying to keep their spirits up. Throughout the 12 hours, families are invited to take the stage and tell the story of their experiences with Universi...

As a non-profit organization, CHN relies on corporate, and TV/media partnerships to continue to provide the services they offer to the 170 children’s hospitals. These fundraisers are done in several ways the very first means of donation came from a telethon conducting in 1983 by founders Marie Osmond, John Schneider, Mick Shannon, and Joe Lake. After the success of the telethon with nearly 4.8 million dollars raised, many large corporations joined in the efforts to provide resources for sick and injured children. Many high-name corporations such as Marriott International, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Cosco, Dairy Queen and Ace Hardware are leading participants in donations. These donations are done in the form of tournaments, relays, telethons, and various other marathons. One of the most well-known forms of donations is done though the CMN paper balloon sales. Many of the named above stores, as well as many others s...
Among all the communication mediums used in an organization, emails are used widely as an effective form of a business communication. From the company’s CEO to an employee of the business, emails are very easy and inexpensive. “Internal emails can function as an effective communication for sharing basic information, such as new cafeteria prices, paper use guidelines, or security precautions, for example. Sending simple messages to an entire workforce with just the click of a mouse is fast, easy, convenient and can save the company money”. (Lorette,
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has a legacy that dates back over one hundred years. One hundred years of service, fortitude, and pride. Overcoming adversity and strengthening communities through service. The amazing thing is that it doesn’t end there! The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation was created to help our own members in need. Whether it’s a scholarship to help a young woman complete her education or an emergency grant in a time of need, we help Kappas when they need it most. The Foundation also endows Leadership Academy, an intergenerational, life-changing retreat that impacts more than 250 women each year. The program is designed to help members recognize their leadership potential and encourage them to serve in leadership roles in their chapters, on their campuses and in their communities.
Will Smith once said, “If you're not making someone else's life better, then you're wasting your time. Your life will become better by making other lives better”. As a young child, I always tried to find a way to help someone in need. I grew up volunteering in some capacity from volunteering at the local Stew Pot to helping implement organization’s events at my school. When I came to Jackson State University, I had never been introduced to Golden Key International Honor Society. I became introduced to Golden Key at the organizational fair during the fall semester in 2014. From listening to the experiences of current members of Golden Key, my interest to join increased.
Last spring semester, our event “Grilled Cheese with the G Phi B’s” benefitted Girls on the Run and raised approximately $10,000. It was a fun, social event where we served unlimited grilled cheese and tomato soup with a $5 entry fee. DJ Erose and
For this project I will be solely looking at the organizations on Armstrong State University, and Savannah State University campuses. These organizations hold all kinds of social, philanthropy, cultural, and community enriching events, in order to uphold the principals upon which they were founded. A quick way to see a good bit of their rituals and ideals is to view one of their most public, for some, and entertaining ceremonies. For the NPHC organizations it is what was once known as a probate and more recently referred to as new member presentations, to avoid the stigma that hazing has placed on probates and redefine their image. Family, friends, other organizations, and everyone and anyone are encouraged to come and take part as a member of the crowd during these shows For the NPC sororities this is a more private event and difficult for anyone unrelated to the happenings of the event to take part
In today’s society, we are blessed with various forms of philanthropy and different ways to achieve this philanthropic culture. When many people think of the term philanthropy, they immediately think of donating money to charities and other non-profit organizations. That is not necessarily the case because an individual can do philanthropy in a variety of different ways. For instance, they can do anything from taking part in or making an organization for the less fortunate. They can even participate in any form of community service that helps ‘people in that community’. Since philanthropy is all about “civic engagement, essentially social reform and community building.” Therefore, philanthropists need to connect with people and go beyond themselves into the world of donors in order to create that community of philanthropy. In a philanthropic culture, the importance of giving is instilled in the everyday organizational life at all levels and in all areas. This invites donors to support and embraced the healing mission of an organization. A philanthropic culture establishes an understanding of how community giving can strengthen and sustain organizations. However, the drive behind a philanthropic culture is to improve the wellbeing of humanity by preventing and solving social problems. In this paper, I’ll focus on how to establish a successful philanthropy and the importance of donors to sustain those philanthropy cultural aspects.
