Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has a legacy that dates back over one hundred years. One hundred years of service, fortitude, and pride. Overcoming adversity and strengthening communities through service. Courage, heroism, and involvement are characteristics that exude from the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated leadership skills that change mind, and body. My interest in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated stem from observation of the Sorority, I have witnessed on and off campus the time that the sorority have put into service and the uplifting of the community, and individuals. This type of work and humility speak to my spirit. To be on one accord with individuals creates a corporation of organizers, planners,
and change agents. These are the values in which I believe. These are also the values that I see in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. To share in a sisterhood of women that share the same vision will result in a wonderful exchange of ideas, interpersonal growth and development. The rich history of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has inspired me to aim higher, reach further, and remain steadfast in what I believe. Investing in people through community is how I convey the work of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Indeed Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a sorority that I envision myself becoming a part of caring on the mission of transforming the world through economic development by equipping individuals with the proper tools to become and remain self- sufficient educating through platform of empowerment of self and others. Building bridges and creating opportunities by getting involved with the community. Demonstrating the importance of physical and mental health, exercising the significance of being knowledgeable on the subject of politics and being involved in the process.
While reading Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, I learned more about the inner workings of Greek Life. I learned that the odds of me finding a sorority are so slim due to my independent and different personality. While I am not good at sticking up for myself, something this book has made me feel is crucial to blend in and conform to an ideal to fit into a sorority, I am too opinionated. There are not many sororities (at least shown in Pledged) that welcome girls who are different, preferring to stay similar. For example, each pledge class would soon like identical within a few months of pledging. Another thing I learned about is the careful planning and manipulation that occurs throughout sororities,
At a young age I knew as an African American woman through activism, educational autonomy, and community service, I can thrive through the wake of extreme poverty and turmoil faced by the people of my neighborhood of East New York. My interest in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. The ladies of this organization exude exemplary character who excel in sisterhood, respect, honesty, accountability, and integrity. Throughout my life I always encouraged myself to have these ideal characteristics without knowing that one day I would be pursuing membership in a prestigious organization, whom upheld the key principles “greater service, greater progress. The first
I am seeking membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to be a part of a sisterhood that leads and serves. I would love to join a sisterhood that serves the community, promotes academic achievement and builds self-esteem in students of all walks of life from primary to adulthood. In addition, I wish to expand my public service through educational development. As an educator, serving children and families through toy drives and youth mentorships would afford me countless opportunities to give back beyond the walls of my classroom, dance stage, and church. With my dedication, compassion, and creativity, I know I will work diligently to produce a strong impact on the sorority’s current programs and aid to create new

They teach professional skills and foster leadership qualities by promoting and advancing the welfare of humanity through service. Phi Sigma Pi offers strong academic students the chance to experience the benefits of three types of organizations all consolidated into one premier fraternity: the personal rewards of an honor society, the internal satisfaction of serving others through service, and memories and friendships that will last long after the college years are over. Phi Sigma Pi’s members are committed to academic and personal success, being role models in our communities, and creating meaningful connections with members. Their members have over 750 community service hours combined. This year Phi Sigma Pi Celebrated 100 years of scholarship, leadership and giving back to the community. In the years to come Phi Sigma Pi hopes to grow and inspire more than just its members to be great, but the entire student
Women of Delta, especially the ladies of the Alpha Tau Chapter, excel excessively in everything they accomplish and partake in from what I have seen on Southern Universities campus and in the community. Their outstanding work ethics, academics success, social friendliness, dominating attitudes, and constant need to help others is just a few explanations why I would be honored to be a lovely member of ...
I saw how much hard work they have to do by the things in chapter by examine every girl as well as planning inanition. I think that girls should know more about our traditions and how Delta Zeta came to be so I will help her plan practice session with the chapter so everyone will understand the importance of our
Do people really understand the secrets behind the Greek community? There are many pressures girls face that the public is not familiar with that are specifically evident in sororities. Alexandra Robbins, the author of the book Pledged: The Secret Lives of Sororities, went undercover and followed four different girls during their experiences within the Greek system. Although there are many struggles girls can face in sororities, the five most prevalent type of pressures include: having a perfect body image, substance abuse, stress, silence, and hazing.
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha is to promote sisterhood in colleges to assure a bond between college women, and the sorority leads by being an example for other college women to follow. Alpha Kappa Alpha also promotes higher education and positive self-esteem to younger women. Alpha Kappa Alpha also gives back to the community in community service that could range from educating our women on relevant topics to just lending a hand in the community. I want to contribute to this purpose at Mississippi State University and back in my hometown.
To me the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is to promote sisterhood and unity, serve the community, and build lifelong bonds. Therefore, I am seeking membership in order to be a part of a sisterhood that
The mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, promote unity and genuine friendships among college women, aid in issues concerning girls and women in order to come up with solutions to eliminate or ease the circumstances they may face, maintain an ongoing interest in college life, while also being of service to all mankind. The purpose of this letter is to inform you about my interest in becoming a member of The Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I sought out membership because the members exemplify the epitome of class, grace, and standards. My desire is to inspire young girls and women and make a significant impact on their lives is just one of many reasons I aspire to join your great sorority. I believe in being of service, giving back to the community, and I want to continue on for years to come. Going into the transition into my college career from my freshman year until now, I have encountered many women in the organization that are very active on campus as well as in the community. My past experiences with my past and previous organizations have proved that once my feet are planted my roots will grow and I will stand firm in an organization or committee that I am apart of exemplifying my leadership skills. I am a dedicated member of the National Council of Negro Women. I am on the Bethune Committee, we focus on creating Health programs for the organization and the community. I am a Mentor with the Valdosta community organization G.O.L.F.E.R. (Generating Opportunities in Life for Each
As we look back on the past we need to recognise the small things, the small things with big matter. 100 years ago Lourdes Hill College, a Good Samaritan Education school, started in the year 1916. In the suburb of Hawthorn on the Bulimba Reach of the Brisbane River, at the request of Archbishop Duhig, the Good Samaritan Sisters founded the college (one of three schools that was founded at the time by the sisters). One of the most memorable features of Lourdes Hill College, The Grotto, was the first feature built in the college and will be continued to be looked up to and admired by the students at Lourdes Hill College. The values of the school, are based on three sources: The Compassion of the Good Samaritan, the patronage of Mary under
This experience was the most instrumental in my personal growth throughout my undergraduate career. I have always considered myself to have characteristics of a leader, but taking on so many leadership roles in Delta Sigma Theta turned those disjointed characteristics into a cohesive reality. Upon becoming member of Delta Sigma Theta, I was balancing being a full time student, working over 40 hours week, volunteer work, and other extracurriculars. Rather than taking a backseat in the chapter, I decided to put my talents to use in every way that I saw fit. I learned a great deal about teamwork, time management, and accomplishing goals regardless of obstacles.
When entering college, it seems to be some students’ dream to join a fraternity or sorority. The question is ‘have they really thought this through?” There are many aspects of Greek society one should consider before making a decision that will affect them for the rest of their life. Anyone contemplating joining a Greek organization, needs to be educated on both the positive and negative effects they tend to have on people. Students should take special care in deciding whether it is really wise to be part of a fraternity or sorority because they can instill a desire to fit in, no matter the cost, encourage students to participate in ill-advised or illegal activities, and generate a loss of focus on what is important.
