Basketball is supposed to be a team sport. A team can constant of ten or twelve players but only five can compete at a team. Five players on the court working together to win. Teammates are supposed to have their teammates back. Fight to the very end for their team to get a win. This is not always true. Players have their own way of doing things. They think a team should be like this or that, but they are players who do the right things for the team. I have experienced this from my team. My teammates cab be categorized based on their performance as the “Jankin’ Jerseys”, the “Limitless LeBrons”, and the “Paparazzi Peters.”
The “Jankin’ Jerseys” are a group based on their performance on the team. The “Jankin’ Jerseys” want to be able to say they are on the team. Most of the players do not really care about a win or lose. All they care for is they get to wear a jersey. For example, Bragging Bob who plays with me. He went around school bragging for just making the team. He is fine with sitting on the bench every game and playing only two or three minutes a game. Besides with the satisfaction of just being on the team, “Jankin’ Jersey” give little or no effect. They will not go hard at practice or work outside of practice to get better. They have no desire to get better when they can be great and play. They are fine with being average. For instance, Lazy Larry comes to practice every day. He does just enough to get through practice. He does not try to be first in sprints or get on the court to scrimmage first team. It is always the bare minimum for him. The “Jankin’ Jerseys” are just like their name, a joke, no effort and care only about wearing a jersey. It is easy to point a “Jankin’ Jersey” on a team based on their performance.

...game, he would go to our stat keeper and ask how many points he had even if we were defeated. Besides caring for themselves, they can also hurt the team. “Paparazzi Peters” will try to take a game into their own hands. They want to be the hero in a close game so everyone can honor them. In most cases, they are not the hero, but the reason we lose a game. Most of the time a force shot or a turnover will occur with the ball in the hands of a “Paparazzi Peter”. In fact, Selfish Steve was in the game. We had ten seconds left in the game, and our coach wanted us to execute the play he drew up for us. Instead Selfish Steve received the ball and turned the ball over. This caused his to lose the game and miss a chance to go to the playoffs. Therefore, “Paparazzi Peters” could be helpful but are harmful and selfish players making them the worst group to play with on a team.
Ringelmann effect is where the productivity of a players performance can be lowered by as much as 50 percent Given the group becomes bigger. This is because they believe that others will compensate for you and also that your effort will make little difference to the team. In basketball it is noticeable when somebody's performance decreases as their team mates are covering and helping them more on defence. Social loafing is where members of a group do not put in 100% in a group or team. this will be because of some of situations which include loss of self belief and being anxious. once more in basketball you could inform someone who is social loafing as their defence as they may be continuously desiring help
Most people in todays’ society know how competitive the NBA can be. The NBA has been around for years and years and is now beginning to be more competitive than in previous years. So many teams have so much talent that some know how to use perfectly and some use it to a minimum. The NBA has different positions like Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward and Center. These positions require specific training and skills to know how to do. Some people have the talent for one position while some people can have the talent for all positions. The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are the two most competitive teams there is in the league compared to the
For my ethnography project I chose to study the life at elementary school basketball games in Albemarle, NC. In this paper, I will refer to all the players by their number. I will also refer to the people in the crowd by what they were wearing on that particular day. The main focus of this ethnography is to see why people come to little kids Saturday basketball games. Is the audience there for a specific relationship to the team, or just to watch free basketball?
I think the difference in being a team player and not a team player, is state championships. That's another thing, you are on the same team for a reason. You aren't on the team just to try and fight one another, you are on the team because you love the game you are playing and you are trying to win like everyone else is. I have had a few people tell me that tournament baseball will get you no where and how those teams aren't as good as a certain high school team. I this person would have said this is person I would have told them right then and there that the reason tournament teams are so good is because of team chemistry. Those kids that usually play on the teams nowadays have been playing together probably since they were 10 or 11 years old. That's why high school teams have a summer team, because they want their team to play as much as they can together so they can get used to who they will be playing with whenever the high school season comes
The dynamics of the coach athlete relationship in youth sports are a very vital part of the sporting arena. This topic interests me because of my developing coaching career while dealing with the youth. The performance of the team does not solely relay on the coaches or athlete’s ability. There have been instances when interactions between the coach and player have not been optimum. Indiana Coach Bob Knight is universally known for several technical fouls and being ejected from the games on various occasions during his tenure. He is infamously known for his horrible temper and the harsh manner in which he dealt with the member of his team. While he was often seen as displaying lack of control and discipline when dealing with his players, he still is regarded as having a very successful career (Freidman, 2013).
The National Basketball Association has gone through a lot to get to what it is today. Today’s league contains thirty teams. These teams are divided into two conferences, the east and west. Fifteen teams are in the east and fifteen teams are in the west. Another way they are divided is there are six divisions that contain five teams each. Two NBA teams the Golden State Warriors, and the Cleveland Cavaliers have battled it out in the finals for the last three years and are the front runners this year(Trenchard, NBA Then and Now). In today’s league, players
In sports today, the stakes of a game are higher than ever. This causes all those invested in the sport to become on edge. Although this may cause some beneficial effects in the game, there are still a few downsides to it. One such downside would be the bullying of athletes from their very own coaches. That’s right, the intensity of sports causes some coaches to take drastic measures to make their chances of winning greater, even if said measures are detrimental to the confidence and mentality of their players.
There are many games that come to mind when thinking about how to increase productivity and how to bring a group closer together. While many games could be fitting, the game that stuck out is, Family Feud. Family Feud is an American game show that emphasizes teamwork. Family Feud has been rated by TV Guide as the third rated game show of all time. This game is played by two families battling against each other. The battles are families fighting to name the most popular answers to the surveys Family Feud has researched. On the show, there are five people in a family and each person in the family has to contribute to their “team.” Each round begins with one member of the family battling a member from the other team to see which person buzzes
...niversity men’s basketball team, says it best: “Effective teamwork begins and ends with communication. Communication must be taught and practiced to bring everyone together as one (Krzyzewski, 2007, pg. 1).”
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. You playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were all meant to shine, as children do. It’s not just in some of us it’s in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”.
From looking at what makes up a team player, it is easy to see what a team player is not. To be a team player, one cannot be selfish or need recognition for one’s individual accomplishments. In not being selfish, a team player will always put the needs of others ahead of his/her own needs. Therefore, not needing recognition for one’s accomplishments is the strong point of the team player; he/she only expresses pleasure when the team as a whole is successful.
Being part of the basketball clique in high school helped me learn the intrapersonal and social communication skills I use today. As a child playing basketball was my favorite activity or hobby. It's also the way I met a lot of my good friends that I have now. All my close friends I have met. I have met them through playing basketball.. Whether they were on my team, the opposing team or just fans in the crowd who admired my play. Not only has basketball helped me gain friends, but basketball also taught me a lot about life. There are many aspects of life that coincide with basketball. For instance basketball is a team game and an individual game. Like in life you have to work together with other people. The communication skills I learned from basketball helped me communicate with friends, girlfriends, parents and bosses at work.
Within an organizational work unit, subordinates become part of the in-group or the out-group based on how well they work with the leader and how well the leader works with them (Northouse, 2013). This theory can also be applied to the coach’s leadership style of the Golden State Warriors. Team players such as the star players of the team may be a part of the in-group. These players expand their role responsibilities, due to how well they work with the coach. Players in the in-group receive more information, influence, confidence, and concern from their coaches than do out-group players (Northouse,
Basketball is a team sport which has enormous admiration and frolicked with the aid of a ball that is shot into a basket placed horizontally. The objective to shoot the ball that is scores which are increased by resulting definite rules of the game. The game is played by 2 teams establishing 5 players each who play on a noticeable rectangular floor with baskets on mutually ends. The game of basketball was invented by James Naismith in 1891. Under the guidance of physical education specialist, Luther Halsey Gulick, he invented basketball as an indoor sport. Basketball is the world’s popular sports
If you were to ask my friends what I love to do, my guess is that the majority of them would come up with this reply, "He loves to play sports". Sports are a big part of my life, and if I had to choose my favorite sport to play it would have to be basketball. I couldn't imagine going a week without being able to touch a basketball, and I thought I would never have to. But on one summer afternoon, that all changed when I broke my leg. It left me on crutches for two months, and not being able to play basketball all that summer. At first I thought it wouldn't be so bad, getting all the attention and sympathy from everyone. However, after one game I soon realized that I would do just about anything to get rid of those horrible crutches and get back on the court.
