In 1891 James Naismith created the game of basketball, this game started off as a game only man played. James Naismith was a Canadian P. E teacher and invented the game for his students during the winter. The game of basketball started in Massachusetts where Naismith invented the game and has now spread throughout the world. Basketball is defined as a game where two teams of five play each on a rectangular court, usually indoors (Basketball/Sport). Basketball was invented by James Naismith on December 1, 1891 (Basketball/Sport). The object of basketball is to shoot the basketball through the opposing team’s basket and to out-score them by end of the regulation time limit. If the score is tied at this time, the game will go into overtime until one team wins. While reading about basketball, I found it interesting that when the sport was invented they would nail baskets to balconies with no backboards. This made it easy for spectators (in the balcony) to help their team by either swatting the
Basketball was born in 1891 in the United States, specifically at the University of YMCA, Springfield (Massachusetts), where they studied the career of Physical Education and taught practical courses in athletics, rugby, cycling and gymnastics. James Naismith, professor of Physical Education, wanted to create a team sport that could be practiced in the gym during the winter cold. After analyzing the sports that were practiced at that time, such as rugby, football, baseball, etc., he wrote eleven rules of a game, which today is known as Basketball. Naismith placed two baskets of peaches nailed to the ends of a track, 3'05 m above the ground. From here arose the name of basketball (basketball), English compound word that defines the goal of the

Some people like basketball because they like the idea of the sport or the competition. Most people have something specific that they like about basketball. Many of us know of the fun game of basketball, the object of the game is to basically run up and down the court and shoot the ball, and block the other team when they try to score. Whichever team has the most points at the end of the game is the winner. According to Bran Faurschou’s article, “ NBA Hoops Online” Basketball was invented in 1891 by, Dr. James Naismith. He was a physical education instructor. Back then the game of basketball was a little bit different, It was the same concept but it was different. I never anticipated that when I decided to play basketball, I would endure so much pain, soreness, or diversity, but I was inevitability mistaken. Basketball has taught me how to compete as a team with teammates whom you might not get along with. As in any sport, teams go through many ups and downs together throughout the years. When times get demanding and strenuous, as teammates, we have to encourage each other, build our strength up together, and keep good character through it all. My late grandfather always preached to me about never letting my circumstances define my character, and I find myself teaching my teammates, friends, and classmates more about that saying each day. Additionally, I do not consider myself a defeatist because I have never quit a sport or activity in life because it got challenging, problematic, or more demanding. My grandfather also taught me to press through the tough times in life, and I would be rewarded in some way. Now the reward was not money nor fame, for it was a profound understanding that I would never be handed anything in life because I had to earn it. In
The sport basketball was created in 1981 and has grown to be one of the most popular sports to be played worldwide. To think that this life altering activity was thought of by only one man, Dr. James Naismith, a Physical Instructor at the YMCA Training school. Which was in Springfield, Massachusetts. Naismith was under the instructions of the head physical education board when he had the brilliant idea. He was given an enduring two weeks to come up with an indoor game that would give an “athletic distraction” for a jumpy class to participate in through the harsh winter approaching them. All he had was his own mind and a small indoor space to some how create a new game to be played. Naismith succeeded and his creation is now a big time sport played by millions all around the world.
The transition from middle school to high school was a major turning point in my life. I moved from thin workbooks to thick anthology-like textbooks, wide-ruled one paged essays to college ruled four page essays, and simple arithmetic to complex math such as calculus. Everything became more challenging and difficult. However, I wasn’t going to let anything deter me from completing high school successfully. Not only had academics been somewhat of an obstacle for me, but so was the journey I took through Saunders varsity basketball. Both my development in academics and journey through basketball marked my transition into adulthood.
Basketball was originated in 1891 by a man named James Naismith. He was assigned to teach a physical education class at the YMCA training school in Springfield Massachusetts, where he came up with the idea of making basketball a sport. The equipment he used when basketball was first originated
Adriana was not excited for this basketball game, the only thing she was excited for was going to McDonalds afterward. She wasn’t excited because they had just gotten back from the weekend and they had had volleyball and basketball practice on Sunday so Adriana and her team were pretty tired. It was Monday December 4th. Adriana said “ who has games on a monday” The 8th grade girls South Tama basketball team was going to one of their away games. They knew it was going to be a hard team but they were ready to win after so many losses and go to McDonalds and celebrate their win, especially the A team. They kind of knew Williamsburg's plays so they thought they could win.
Basketball a sport that is played throughout the whole world. When playing this sport all you need is a ball and basket. Though the basket does have to be a certain height kids play it in their classroom or outside. What I mean by this is that kids and even adults in the office treat a trash can as a basket and whatever their trash is as a ball. I got interested in this sport when I was in middle school in eighth grade moving on to high school. I was never interested in basketball until I played it with a group of kids who today are still my friends.
I grew up around the culture of athletics and competitiveness. In my house, all four of my older siblings were participating in a variety of different sports that took up the majority of the time. I would spend every weekend on the sidelines of a field or court watching them play countless hours. I believe that they are the ones who sparked my interest in the sport that I grew to love, basketball. Never once when I was 5 years old, when I first picked up a basketball, did I ever think that I would be sitting here with the number of the college scholarships that I have today and that I dreamed of getting. But it was definitely not an easy journey to get there.
When you are a kid your parents push you into stuff they liked as a kid. My family was big into sports and I started playing for the YMCA soccer team when I was pre-kindergarten. I loved to play soccer any time of day. It was my passion. I started playing basketball for the YMCA in the fourth grade. Every sport I played I loved with all my heart. End of Middle of School I had to make a chose either play travel soccer and give up basketball or play travel basketball and quit playing soccer. I choose basketball I played AAU or travel basketball for the next four years. This helped me to be where I am today. Without basketball I wouldn’t be going Averett University or maybe even College. My parents did it right. I never fell out of love with the game. I never wanted to quit or give up. Basketball will always be the biggest part of my life no matter what. Parents now and days force their kids to do what they want in sports. They put them into fast. Kids need to learn what there is to love about the game of basketball. Not diving right in and trying to be the best when they are six or seven years old. I am writing this because I believe now kids are getting trained to hard
Although many sports are not considered American-made, basketball is one of the few that began in America. In fact it is the only major sport that can be considered American-made (Encyclopedia.com, Basketball). The inventor of basketball was Dr. James Naismith, who created the sport in 1891(History.com Staff, NBA is Born). This was all the way back when there were only forty-four states(nbahoopsonline.com, NBA History). He made the sport in Springfield, Massachusetts(History.com Staff, NBA is Born). Naismith invented this sport because he was P.E. teacher seeking a sport with limited physical contact, but it contained running, jumping, shooting, and hand-eye coordination(Encyclopedia.com, Basketball). The game first used peach baskets and a soccer like ball(History.com Staff,
