Being a Pythagoras follower was not as easy as it sounds. In order to become a Pythagorean I had to observe a five-year silence where my loyalty and secrecy of Pythagoras’ beliefs was to not be spread outside of the Pythagorean brotherhood. Although, being silent for that many years was hard at times it was well worth it and helped me learn self-control. My daily routine consisted of many different activities. First, my days were very structured and followed strict rules. The Pythagorean way of life embodied a strict regiment not only regarding religious rituals and diet, but almost every aspect of life. My mornings were usually consistent in that I would wake up and make breakfast, typically something that didn’t include meat, since the
...for the Pythia at Delphi to be used, the people seeking advise are completely dependent on the interpreters to receive the answer to their questions, and thus have no choice but to be left with second hand advice; it had to go through the priests before the one seeking advice could receive an answer. With this in mind, it is hardly possible to be quite sure of how precise the priests interpreted Pythia’s utterances, and how well they really knew how to do their jobs --regardless of how wholeheartedly the people of Greece believed in them.
My parents both worked full time and most of the time we had beans and rice for breakfast, lunch and diner, however every Friday night at about 7:00 we would gather our things and head out for the taqueria at the corner of the street. We could smell the cooking meat and grilled onions before we could even see the stand. Once we arrived we sat on the worn out green seats and ordered, as I was merely three years old, I could only eat about a taco before becoming full. At the end of the night with full bellies and content hearts we walked back home, and awaited for the next Friday.
A Couple of Squares is a company specializing in producing and selling gourmet cookies to retail stores. Recently, A Couple of Squares has been brainstorming the idea of starting an e-commerce website so they can sell there gourmet cookies directly to consumers instead of selling to retailers. There are many considerations that need to be evaluated when deciding to launch an e-commerce website. First, the risks of launching an e-commerce site and the steps to mitigate the risks must be evaluated. Along with the risks of launching an e-commerce site, the benefits of launching an e-commerce site also need to be taken into account. In order to seek profitability a break even analysis must be performed. Once profitability is feasible, A Couple
William Byrd was a wealthy planter, a man of great learning, and a slave owner from Virginia in the early eighteen century, who kept a diary of his daily activities written in a secret code. Through his diary excerpts, we are able to see day-to-day aspects of Byrd 's life. It seems to be one of routine and repetition. They are grouped in three periods: early morning, dinners, and what followed in the afternoon and evening then finished with the hope of getting good health, good thoughts, good humors, and his thanks to God. For instance, he wrote about what time he had gotten up in the morning, what he had read, what he had prayed, what he had eaten and who he had punished in that one day, like: "[February 8, 1709] I rose at 5 'oclock this
In her article, Greene reflects on Alfred Schultz’s idea of wide-awkeness as a “sense of achievement, a type of awareness” (Greene, 1978). She goes on to explain that as teachers and students we must be aware of our surroundings. The habits we submerge ourselves in as human beings become mundane. I think about our morning routine: alarm goes off, shower, get dressed, makeup, hair, wake up kids, a couple of “hurry up get your shoes on”, get into car, drive for half-hour, drop off at daycare, arrive at school, proceed through the day. This happens every single morning. We rarely deviate from our routine and it is exactly what Greene calls “habitual activities” (p. 42).
Through history, as said before, many philosophers have supported and developed what Pythagoras first exposed to the world. One of the most important philosophers to support Pythagoras’s ideas was Plato. In some of his writings he discusses the creation of the universe based on the musical proportions discovered by Pythagoras (Timaeus), and the explanation of the sound emitted by the planets, which is exposed in the “Myth of Er” in The Republic. It talks about a man who died and came back to life who narrates how he saw the space and how, in every “sphere,” there was a being singing constantly, each one in a different tone, so a perfect harmony was built. Nevertheless, not everyone agreed with this theory, being one of its most important critics Aristotle, who claimed that Plato’s arguments where false in his text On the Heavens. He acknowledges that it is a creative and innovative theory, but it is absurd to think that such music, which is imperceptible to us, exists in a harmonic way up in the heavens. I am not going to go deeper into that for it is not relevant for the text. As the years went on, many people continued developing this theory. Nevertheless, this philosophical theory, not truly explained until later on, was an inspiration for many artists and that is why not only philosophers but many other artists mention and base their works upon this theory.
As you have read in my previous essay my goal is to improve my day to day routine doing so I will need to change my routine to follow my strict yet flexible schedule. In order to accomplish this goal I would plan my days out accordingly to my school schedule where school related task are prioritized. My schedule would go as follows, On
My life consists of the same repetition day after day, week after week, month after month. I wake up, eat, try to escape, eat, try to escape, then listen to the subtle click-click-click until I fall asleep.
Pythagoras held that an accurate description of reality could only be expressed in mathematical formulae. “Pythagoras is the great-great-grandfather of the view that the totality of reality can be expressed in terms of mathematical laws” (Palmer 25). Based off of his discovery of a correspondence between harmonious sounds and mathematical ratios, Pythagoras deduced “the music of the spheres”. The music of the spheres was his belief that there was a mathematical harmony in the universe. This was based off of his serendipitous discovery of a correspondence between harmonious sounds and mathematical ratios. Pythagoras’ philosophical speculations follow two metaphysical ideals. First, the universe has an underlying mathematical structure. Secondly the force organizing the cosmos is harmony, not chaos or coincidence (Tubbs 2). The founder of a brotherhood of spiritual seekers Pythagoras was the mo...
My typical day starts at 5:00 in the morning, where I go to the gym. I begin with thirty minutes of cardio workout, yoga and meditation. This charges my body, mind, and soul for my active and eventful day! After coming back home from the gym, I dress up and have a nutritious and power packed breakfast with my coffee in my hand, I’m
My day starts when I hear the alarm blaring at 6 a.m. and I smell the fresh brewed coffee that I set up the night before. I get out of bed where I have been nestled into my warm flannel sheets, and begin to wake up my children so they can get ready for school. As we all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so I start the pancakes, eggs, or waffles like I do every morning. After breakfast we all take our turns in the bathroom getting ready for the busy day ahead of us. My daughter of course is the “queen of primping.” She always takes the longest. I get the kids all bundled up with backpacks and lunches, onto the bus they go. “Whew” I have a brief minute to breathe.
Euclid of Alexandria was born in about 325 BC. He is the most prominent mathematician of antiquity best known for his dissertation on mathematics. He was able to create “The Elements” which included the composition of many other famous mathematicians together. He began exploring math because he felt that he needed to compile certain things and fix certain postulates and theorems. His book included, many of Eudoxus’ theorems, he perfected many of Theaetetus's theorems also. Much of Euclid’s background is very vague and unknown. It is unreliable to say whether some things about him are true, there are two types of extra information stated that scientists do not know whether they are true or not. The first one is that given by Arabian authors who state that Euclid was the son of Naucrates and that he was born in Tyre. This is believed by historians of mathematics that this is entirely fictitious and was merely invented by the authors. The next type of information is that Euclid was born at Megara. But this is not the same Euclid that authors thought. In fact, there was a Euclid of Megara, who was a philosopher who lived approximately 100 years before Euclid of Alexandria.
The Personal Wellness Assignment helped me connect four areas of my health, sleep, nutrition, fitness, and energy. While I was documenting data every day for each of the four areas of health, I recognized some patterns. I noticed that my energy scores were overall lower on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays because I am busy with sports on those days. Also, my fitness scores were low on Monday and Wednesday because I had a lot of homework to do, so I had a minimum amount of time to do fitness. Next, I saw some connections between the areas of health. My graph shows that whenever my sleep scores are high, my nutrition numbers are high as well. This maybe because those who are sleep-deprived tend to eat foods high in fat, simple carbohydrates,
There are many people that contributed to the discovery of irrational numbers. Some of these people include Hippasus of Metapontum, Leonard Euler, Archimedes, and Phidias. Hippasus found the √2. Leonard Euler found the number e. Archimedes found Π. Phidias found the golden ratio. Hippasus found the first irrational number of √2. In the 5th century, he was trying to find the length of the sides of a pentagon. He successfully found the irrational number when he found the hypotenuse of an isosceles right triangle. He is thought to have found this magnificent finding at sea. However, his work is often discounted or not recognized because he was supposedly thrown overboard by fellow shipmates. His work contradicted the Pythagorean mathematics that was already in place. The fundamentals of the Pythagorean mathematics was that number and geometry were not able to be separated (Irrational Number, 2014).
Eating habits refers as what and how people eat, and our selection of food. Every human being have to eat food to survive, and food also produces immunity against disease. Every meal is organized mixtures of food items served at a certain time throughout the day. Most people are adjusted with the habit of eating three meals in a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). The first meals we eat is in the breakfast, in general breakfast consist of lighter food as compare to lunch and dinner. People believe that having a good breakfast will help you to increased concentration in your classroom or work.
