Public speaking conveys a speaker’s ideas directly to live audiences in public. Three areas of public speaking that are essential for a successful speech are delivery, organization of ideas, and verbal and nonverbal communication. One of the component for a successful speech is delivery. Delivery refers to the way how a speech is presented to the audience. Delivery is the part of a speech where a speaker communicates with his audience directly after he has researched, organized, and practiced for his speech. Delivery can be used to communicate a speaker’s confidence and preparedness to the audience. Even given the same topic, different speakers will convey the same information to his audience in different ways and give them different impression. …show more content…
Organization of ideas refers to how a speech is constructed for conveying the speaker’s ideas. Organization of ideas includes introduction, body, and conclusion. A good introduction can gain the attention and interest of the audience by introducing the topic and main theme of the speech. A speaker can establish credibility with a well-prepared introduction. Body is the main part of a speech with main ideas and supporting materials including explanations, examples, definitions, and statistics. Conclusion reviews the main theme and purpose of the speech and gives the audience a sense of completeness. A good organization of ideas can make a speech attractive, enjoyable, and easy to understand, and can add credibility to the speaker. For the audience, well-organized speeches are easier to comprehend and the key points are easier to remember. For the speaker, well-organized speeches can be easily memorized, and the flow of speech is smooth. A good organization can help the speaker simplify complex concepts he wants to deliver, and connect the main points with reasons to make the speech more persuasive. One example of good organization of ideas is Steve Jobs’ 2005 commencement address at Stanford University. Steve Jobs gained his credibility as the CEO of Apple Inc. and a brilliant entrepreneur. His speech had clear introduction, body, and conclusion. He jumped into the body of his speech by saying “Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories.” He prepared his audience and gained their attention, so the audience would feel more comfortable and relaxed. He ended his speech repeating a powerful message that he is giving as the purpose of the speech by saying “Stay hungry, stay foolish.” He used fun stories and jokes to maintain the interest of the audience and to give smooth transition of each part of his speech. His speech is easy to follow
Renowned and engaging speakers have the ability to connect their values and ideas to greater causes and principles, leaving an enduring impact on the audience. You may be questioning what makes a great speaker? And what qualities and features contribute to the formation of a powerful speech? It is understood that a great speaker has the ability to communicate to larger truths and carve those truths on the audience’s hearts and minds as they surpass the context, place and time of the deliverance of the speech, and focus on conveying their ideas and values.
The speech delivered by Dr. Randy Pausch is a powerful and influential public speaking, including various communication components that we should pay attention to and learn when we present our speeches. Delivery has to do with each and every canon before it in the sense that each part comes together to make a good delivery. If one part is lacking, delivery will suffer as well. Being an all-around good speaker means that you need to do each and every one of these things and do them well in order to convince people of what you are trying to say and what point you are trying to get across. Delivery includes having confidence, good gestures, good eye contact, and enthusiasm. It is the most physical part of the canons, being that you have to exude confidence not only inside, but out as
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
“Abigail, give zach his pencil back and come and sit down. Billy, take your hand out of the trash can. Everyone it’s time for reading.”
Therefore, his speech is expressive and understandable. In conclusion, an impressive speech not only depends on great and meaningful content, but also needs contract language and expressive delivery to help the speaker present ideas better. Obama’s bank to school event’s speech is a good example.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and can tell a thousand tales. Just what exactly is this saying? (Visual of a bad snap shot… finger in shot)
Albert Camus's "Banquet Speech" is revolved around the meaning of art. He defines art as a concept of connecting communities as a whole. Although, art is not a reason for the artist to distinct themselves from the real world. Camus stands behind this when he admits his art is to foresee the truth behind this world and to see deeper into the people suffering from the truth. For him, as the writer, he believes his art work reaches out to everyone because he does not see himself any different from the readers. They are all the same. No judgements or hatred takes place in the piece of work but only the beauty of the community.
The influential power behind words is often forgotten or misused, but when put together in a harmonious way one’s words have the power to change the world. Anywhere from ancient Roman times to modern day America, public speaking has been an art form many have mastered and used for persuasive purposes. The most successful and effective of speeches often times have clear indications of the speaker’s motivation, approach, and purpose. These themes are very blatantly portrayed in William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, as well as the famous speech of the great Martin Luther King Jr.
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
Public speaking is one of the most under rated skills learned in school, yet is one of the most valuable. The way you communicate shows a lot about you, and can influence other’s opinions of you. In every profession communicatiis important. Good communication skills, no matter what you plan to do in life, will help you out greatly and improve your chances against a harsh job market. I am majoring in Business Administration and Law, and communication is one of the biggest parts of business and law, yet communication is hardly ever taught in business classes for my major. I think that a communications class like public speaking, for example, should be not just for a college class, but taught in high school and middle school as well. I believe several classes would allow anyone to become an expert speaking. The only way to fully learn public speaking is to get up in front of people and talk to them. One can not learn public speaking from a book.

Many people believe that leadership is simply being the first, biggest or most powerful. Leadership in organizations has a different and more meaningful definition. A leader is someone who sets direction in an effort or task and influences or motivates people to follow that direction. The power point presentation explains leadership is the influence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organizational context.
