In this discussion assignment, I will be explaining the benefits of vitamin D; its global association's on the health of individuals in all age group around the world, and the initiatives to improve implementation of this vital health nutrient.

According to the Cleveland Clinic (2016), vitamin D is one of the several nutrients that our bodies require in staying healthy. Amongst its function is to assimilate calcium to helps build healthy bones and also to block the release of a parathyroid hormone that has a counterproductive influence of reabsorbing bone tissue to fragile and brittle bones. Not to mention, Palacios and Gonzalez (2014, p. 139) indicated that vitamin D is an essential fat-soluble vitamin for calcium maintenance homeostasis, and he estimated that about 1 billion people have low vitamin D levels, and it is spread out in all ethnicities and age groups. …show more content…

The lack of vitamin D in children is called rickets, and the scarcity in adults is associated with osteoporosis and other health risks such as a particular type of cancers and cardiovascular diseases (Kumar, Chugh, and Eggersdorfer, 2015, p. 185).

S153) describes that a plasma metabolite of vitamin D, 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) is a valuable risk marker to determine the paucity of vitamin D, she further reports that this substance is produced in the liver and synthesizes from the skin.
