Psychology Personal Statement Essay

Since I was very young, I have always had a profound interest in the field of psychology. I always wanted to listen to people talk and provide solutions or advice to their problems and this is still a trait I carry today. I initially wanted to be a neuropsychologist, because I was very interested in the human brain, and what makes people tick. My final decision to major in psychology was made when I was in 8th grade. After researching alternative career paths in psychology, I changed my mind and decided that I want to go to law school. Law has also always been an interest I had and shared with my father, who is Chief Executive at a Law Firm in Atlanta. I began to research how I can have the best of both worlds, with psychology and law. My research lead me to find that the two fields can actually go hand-in-hand. I found a blog on the Law Professors Blogs Network with a chart that compares major fields to LSAT scores. Psychology was not one of the first, but it was the 17th major for high scores on the LSAT. This got me thinking, and my final decision came to a major in psychology, and a double minor in philosophy and legal studies.

I also look for a professor that teaches using resources other than just their own knowledge. The best way for me to learn is to have my notes from a textbook or a PowerPoint. Therefore I usually pick a teacher that provides PowerPoints after class and also follows the textbook, that way I can teach myself the material outside of class. I also prefer to work off of an organized a tentative schedule for the semester therefore I can prepare and begin to work on assignments
