Diversity shapes the world we live in. Diversity can be defined as people coming together from different nationalities, races, religions, cultures, sexes, and genders to form a group, organization or community. With diversity comes both positive and negative factors, especially to those who fail to understand its value. Today, most people view diversity as an overall good thing because it allows people the chance to experience something different, gain a new perspective on life, and it influences understanding, clarity, and knowledge outside of what we are normally accustomed to. On the other hand, in social institutions such as education, religion, family or economy one may face certain consequences for being different. With diversity comes …show more content…
Not only did my parents instill the importance of accepting people’s difference but they also taught me to love everyone regardless of their skin color, religion, or their culture. Education wise, I went to a very diverse school. Up until 6th grade, I was surrounded by people who came from the same background as me. Most of the people I grew up with came from African American, Cape Verdean, and Native American backgrounds. It was not until middle school and high school that I started to experience how much of an impact being “different” has on you. As I got older, I noticed my community becoming predominately Hispanic. Old neighborhoods and local stores were now run by Puerto Ricans and Dominicans. Often times, society groups minority races into this bubble, failing to realize how relevant diversity is within our own social …show more content…
My best friend is Hispanic. I worked in many jobs where both my coworkers and customers we different from me. I have never let the way people treat me dictate how I treat others. No matter what experiences I have been through, I view them all as lessons and continue to treat everyone with kindness and respect. I have learned that you cannot control other people, you can only control how you react to the situation and that says a lot about your character. I would never let someone else’s differences, ignorance, or their lack of cultural competence reflect on who I am. I can only educate and use my platform to
Aspects of diversity are in concordance with age, cognitive means, cultural factors, disability and other significant determinants. In partners develop at least two definitions of diversity as it is any mixture of items characterized by differences and similarities. Another one is its reference to differences between individuals or any attributes that may lead to the perceptions that another person is different from self. Diversity is truly confounding, as numerous different ethnic and cultural organizations have afforded to the social, monetary aspects and cultural standards of our society. It’s just a matter of considering the brighter side of this matter. It is due to these contributions of the diverse society, people will be even more connected in our general objectives, and united
Every individual in society and in a community is unique in their own ways, and their diversity shows up in many ways. Some of these ways include: religion, race, socioeconomic status, lifestyle, and so on. Everyone’s backgrounds are different, and this is what creates diversity in people. Even though everyone might not be the same, only by uniting everyone can we create the big picture. It’s like a puzzle—even though people are different, we can come together to create a big picture that couldn’t be created by puzzle pieces of the same shape. To me, diversity symbolizes the unique backgrounds that we come from. Every individual in their communities and in their society are influenced by their background—and this can come from various reasons. If someone comes from a different socioeconomic background, or lifestyle, their thought processes and their view of life might be much more different than mine. Their reaction to a certain situation can be much more different than mine, and it is important for me to see all these viewpoints in order to be a more informed member of my community. Everyone is diverse in their expression, style, and

Dental professionals have a commitment to respect diversity and create equity of access to dental care for everyone (GDC, 2014). Diversity describes any dimension that can be used to differentiate an individual from others. It requires understanding that each individual is unique and accepting and respecting these individual differences (QCC,2013). These differences could be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender, age, socio-economic status or other ideologies (QCC, 2013). Understanding the impact that these differences may pose is vital in dealing professionally with people from diverse backgrounds and delivering equal treatment for all. Equality refers to identical treatment in dealings quantitates and values (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Thus, creating equality for all might not mean that there are no disparities between different groups. Equity on the other hand refers to fairness and the equality of outcomes and involves recognizing aspects of a system that may disadvantage a certain group and correcting them (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Therefore, in order to overcome potential pitfalls that may create inequity to access, there is a need to explore the different factors encountered in our diverse society that may create these issues. As an example, patients from different ethnic backgrounds may be faced with barriers accounting for the less frequent use of dental care (CQC. 2010). This group will be used as an example and some of the issues behind this inequity of access will be looked at further.
My name is Maria Jose Garcia I am currently 38 years old and was diagnosed with a common behavioral disorder known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder since childhood.According to Doctor Hallowell(2009),…”is neurological condition that is usually genetically transmitted. It is characterized by distractions, impulsiveness and hyperactivity.’’ Life has been extremely difficult for me, being able to adapt to society’s expectations, but at the same time I was being criticized, emotionally unstable and feeling out of place through these traumatic years.
America is often called a melting pot; the metaphor is used because our society is made of different types of people that are blended together in our community. Educators need to familiarize themselves with the perspectives of numerous cultural groups. In early childhood, teachers have practice the anti-bias education concept. Anti-bias education includes learning experiences and teaching strategies that are specifically designed not only to prepare all children for life in a culturally rich society, but also to counter the stereotyping of diverse groups, and to guard against expressions of bias (Derman-Sparks & Edward, 2010). After observing a classroom, the first multicultural items I noticed was the circle time rug. It had a world in the middle with children from all over the world holding
Traditionally, diversity refers to an assortment of races, ethnicities, genders, ages, disabilities and perhaps sexual orientations. A definition of diversity, however, should not be constrained by traditional categories such as these. Such a definition should also include categories such as religion, educational level, life experience, geographic location, socio-economic background, marital status and work experience. Indeed, each person employed by a company possesses unique qualities that encompass many factors.
Diversity is a notion, when applied to the majority of circumstances, can create a positive conclusion. The trick to producing a positive outcome is often how the different aspects are brought together. Consider a classic dinner combination peas and carrots, the two colors look appealing and the two flavors comes together as one making a superb side dish. Now consider oil and water, these two substance are not often considered a good combination. Although, this is not always the case; olive oil and vinegar (which is water based) when mixed, come together into a delectable salad dressing. Diversity and inclusion should also apply to humans by bringing people together who are different it can creates a whole that is enhanced by the uniqueness of each individual.
“We fail to see human beings as human beings.” Often, humans are very narrow minded when it comes to being able to see things the way others might see them. We get lost in the notion of how we believe things should be done. This is where diversity comes into play. Diversity is nothing more than differences between people, their cultures, and their way of thinking.
For the purpose of this paper, I will define what the term Diversity means, and then I will concentrate on the diversity as a result of geographic origin or ethnic diversity. I will look at how ethnic diversity is managed generally and then how my employer, deals with the diverse ethnic groups in its organization and what it needs to improve on.

Living in a diverse world should be something a person should be proud of. Getting to know a person’s culture and their beliefs should be a wonderful ability. Respecting one another is important, even though a lot of people still disregard that, which should discontinue. We should all start to learn how to make this world a better place,
Diversity is common throughout the world, and without it we would all be indistinguishable. Diversity not only describes someone's race or ethnicity, but also others opinions and beliefs. It gives people identity and the ability to be different, not just based on the way they look. It is an absolute must in the world to have diversity, if not then there will be no excellence. Diversity is to be respected, for it is a natural way of living, one cannot change an accident of birth.
Diversity should be respected and definitely noticed because it shows our uniqueness and self worth (McHale). Culture is a very strong part of everyone's life. Instead of trying to ignore our differences we should embrace differences and be proud of who we are. We can learn many different things if we give people who are culturally different from us a chance. Cultural diversity gives us an opening to learn about the uniqueness of the world. People can't go around wanting everything to be the same. They can't go tell themselves that cultures and differences aren't important (“Section 1”).
