Many college students struggle to get exercise in daily. Even when they get there exercise in, more times than not students do not get a quality workout. By not doing a quality workout it defeats the purpose of working out. The purpose of working out is to get healthier and if a college student doesn’t improve while working out over a certain period of time, then they are doing pointless workouts, wasting their time. Thankfully, there is a solution to solve the ongoing problem of getting quality workouts and improving overall health of college students. Running is gaining steam across America and is especially gaining popularity throughout colleges. Running is the only form of exercise that will allow students to become aware of his or her …show more content…
campus, while improving his or her ability to learn, and running is a quality workout every time it is conducted. Many of the wonders of running come from running on campus. Many college students, especially new students of a college or university, find it difficult in figuring out the best ways to get around campus. Running is a gateway in finding the best ways around campus. The positive effects of running around campus are endless. It allows students to explore campuses, allowing students to gain an overall better knowledge of their surroundings. At the same time, running is a great way to socialize. Many college students run around campus while making life-long friends in the process. Many students run in pairs or groups to interact and talk to each other to gain those relationships with each other. Some of the effects of running help the body in a physical and mental health standpoint. Running is more than physically getting a college student just in shape, it gets them mentally in shape as well, “Running kills the silent killer, stress” (Avnet). A good majority of all natural deaths are a result of stress. Stress occurs because of the physical or mental weight college students put on their bodies. Stress has a major impact within colleges, “85% [of college students] describe daily stress in college” (Best Colleges). Fortunately there are solutions to destressing the mind and body. Running is a very effective way in doing that. Running allows the mind to calm the body and be in harmony with the exercise. This exercise is a cardiovascular workout which produces more blood to stream throughout the body, allowing more oxygen being allowed into the body. Running allows the “heart [to] get stronger and delivers more oxygen…your leg muscles get better at using the oxygen” (Burfoot). By running, a person’s body adapts to this particular exercise and allows the body to recover from the day by removing stress from the body. It is amazing that running is considered a natural medicine, healing the overall body. Running does however have its critics, many accuse running of being another form of stress on the body. Running actually causes stress to the joints and bones in the body. Dr. Weil, a doctor in the kinesiology field says that, “Muscles, and joints can have a tremendous amount of stress while exercising [running]” (Dr.Weil). Running causes stress, which can negatively impact the body. Stress can occur around muscles and joints during running. Stress only occurs when running is used in a forceful way. When a student runs too much or runs too hard without precautions, there can be serious consequences. However, if coached and exercised properly, running is the one of the most effective processes in restoring a person’s health, producing very healthy results. The beauties of running outweigh the negative effects of it. Even if someone finds themselves in a position where they overworked themselves, they can still fix the problem they created by conducting a cool-down. A cool-down allows a person “to bring [their] body back to a resting state as efficiently as possible” (Lucas). The restoring state, is a state in which the body is completely relaxed and has no stress. The body responds by getting rid of lactic acid, or in other words stress. Running benefits the entire body unlike any other form of exercise.
These benefits are “scientifically proven that running decreases stress, the risk of cancer, and increases the likelihood of living longer” (Runners World). There are so many benefits within running that makes running the best form of exercise. It is the true definition of a full body workout since it is controlled by the cardiovascular system. Interestingly enough, running decreases the risk of cancer in today’s day in age is amazing. Over “13 million citizens in the United States have cancer currently” (Cancer of All Sites). Think about that. Over 13 million United States citizens have cancer. Running significantly lowers that risk, of getting cancer. Because of running, more lives are being lived longer every …show more content…
day. It is also proven that running even helps with academics. As stated above, running allows the body to destress. By doing so, the body increases overall focus in everyday life, especially academics. Students, found an “overall academic performance after exercising [running]” (Shepard) in a study done by BioMed Central. The improved academic performances also help decrease stress by lifting the weight off of a student. Academics is one of the major causes of stress within college students. Running eliminates that element by allowing students to be more aware of their surroundings and more focused within the classrooms. Running is a major reason why so many college students decrease their levels of stress, and decreases the chance of getting some diseases, while gaining knowledge around the campus, and allows students to be more attentive in class.
Running is one of the best forms of exercise when it comes to the overall health of a person. College students will be able to live longer because of the positive effects from running. Running is a simplistic form of exercise that can be done by a great majority of college students. It is one of the best ways in getting rid of stress, improving academics, and gaining an overall better knowledge of the campus. It is clear with all of the positive impacts that results from running, that college students need to

Education and athletics, two of the most prized activities within our society. It's therefore no surprise that the two so closely link in one of our society’s favorite pastimes: college sports. Some believe that these two things benefit each other and some don’t. In the Forbes article titled “Rethinking the Benefits of College Athletics,” the author Jonathan Robe, a research fellow at the Center for College Affordability, explains, “In my short life, I’ve long been perplexed with the way many higher ed administrators–particularly college presidents–tend to laud college sports for the benefits they add to institutions of higher learning.“ He argues that college athletics do not benefit colleges and in some ways can even harm them. A majority of the supports are strong and, despite a few ineffective supports and language, Robe's argument is effective for its intended audience.

Education and Athletics, two of the most prized activities within our society. So is it any surprise that the two are so closely linked in one of our societies favorite pastimes College Sports? Some believe that these two things benefit each other and some don’t. In this Rhetorical Analysis I will be analyzing the argument presented by the article titled Rethinking the Benefits of College Athletics, which questions the academic benefit that college athletics provide. The article which appeared in Forbes magazine is written by Johnathan Robe a research fellow at the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. The author describes his thesis in the first sentence of the article stating “In my short life, I’ve long been perplexed with the way many higher ed administrators–particularly college presidents–tend to laud college sports for the benefits they accrue to institutions of higher learning.“ (Robe 1) arguing that college athletics are not beneficial to colleges and in some ways can even be harmful. Robe's argument does provide supporting evidence, however it is unlikely to convince those readers that come into it with an opposing view.

The question, "Is running good or bad for you?" has been a very highly debated topic for many years. Many people say it's bad for you and many say it's good for you. In these articles I have just read, both authors will try to convince you by stating very good facts from reliable sources. They also have some common goals and also agree on things. Marcelo Gleiser is the author that insists running is good for your health, he starts off by saying many positive facts about running and how it can add years to your life.
Running has really challenged me in a way that school could not. School was certainly hard at times but never in a physical way. Academics has always been a strong suit of mine, so excelling in school didn’t seem like that big of a deal for me, because
People are too overwhelmed to think that it would benefit them. Even taking a jog would require too much of an effort. Because of society’s obligations, the worries of an average everyday routine bring them devastation. It becomes difficult to try to find time within their schedules to squeeze in a time to run. Adding exercise on their to-do list would result in more pressure while trying to reduce stress is the last priority on their mind. However, if they were able to manage their time and duties, making time to get involved in a cardio workout would not be a problem. They would be able to experience the true benefits of exercise and see how it could translate into reducing stress in their lives.
A Surgeon General's report (Anonymous,1996) addresses the finding that continuous and consistent physical activity is proven to enhance longevity and the quality of life for people of all ages. Furthermore, the report notes that although it has been recognized for years that regular physical activity can lead to substantial health benefits, 60% of American adults are not regularly active, and 25% of the adult population are not active at all. Paffenbarger (1996) states that physical fitness and exercise can reduce the risk of diseases such as heart disease, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, some cancers, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, and obesity. Studies also show that exercise can promote psychological well-being and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression (http://www.medgraph.com/aboutexercise.html).
This is an important area of health because regular physical activity keeps your body functioning properly. If you perform sufficient physical activity, you can manage your body weight better, reduce your risk of heart attacks, diabetes, some cancers, high blood pressure, have stronger bones, joint and muscles while feeling energetic, happy, relaxed and sleep better.
Exercise combats health conditions and diseases: Being active boosts good cholesterol which is HDL and decrease unhealthy triglycerides. Regular physical activity helps you prevent wide range of health diseases like heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, stroke, depression, and metabolic
When I discovered that exercise courses are a required part of a degree programs I was less than thrilled. I decided to take walking and jogging because I reasoned everyone can walk. I was unaware of how much adding a walking routine to my schedule would change my everyday life. Since starting this course I have noticed some health improvements, found a way to get my family involved, and learned to schedule exercise into my basic routine.
Athletics, for a majority of the student population, provides a very meaningful experience in education. People that participate in athletics will have better self-esteem, social confidence, and more academic achievement. Participating in an athletic program will help the student contribute to the school community, which will help them identify with school values. One factor that may be overlooked in the participation of sports is that it helps students have better physical health. Students who participate in sports learn to respect their health and they will try to stay healthier than students who have never participated in a sport. There are so many numerous reasons to get involved in athletics in the school setting, but there arise
