I was never one of the protégées, who was born an outstanding athlete; I didn't even consider myself to be an athlete until my sophomore year of high school actually. I got involved in running somewhat accidentally. One of my friends convinced me to join track and considering I was very out of shape, throwing seemed like the best fit. Two weeks in, it turned out that throwing was not for me, so I decided that I would try the mile or in track terms, the 1600m. Ever since then, I’ve been a runner. Running has really challenged me in a way that school could not. School was certainly hard at times but never in a physical way. Academics has always been a strong suit of mine, so excelling in school didn’t seem like that big of a deal for me, because
“You don't want to be like your parents!" triggers memories of the day I found my compelling reason to attend college. My grandfather is a very wise man who exhibits the meaning of sacrifice and hard work in my family. My first visit to the UOG admissions office with him was a dreadful experience. As I gazed at the cost of tuition yearly, I felt a sudden weight on my shoulders. For a moment I felt like a traveler lost in a foreign place trying to figure out where to go and how to get to my destination. I knew at that moment that I could not afford it unless I found a job to pay for the expenses or received some form of financial aid. As I requested a FASFA form and began filling out the application, my hand began to tremble and again I felt
I was so excited to start my new journey in school. I knew that being involved in a sport was going to help me become more confident. Running has taught me how to achieve my goals, be tough; both physically and mentally, and appreciate life. The first week of cross country was difficult.
My first week of school, everyone encouraged me to join a club or a team. Of course I did not want to, until I heard we had a track team, and even then I did not know if I wanted to pursue it. In my mind, debating if I should dedicate myself to track was a hard decision. I was about to not only give this sport my time but also nothing but
I’ve always been the type of person that truly enjoys athletics and have participated in nearly all sports offered to me. I started playing sports in elementary with club softball and basketball. As I entered my middle and high school years I was able to add the school sanctioned sports to my list of activities. This afforded me the opportunity of competing in volleyball, basketball, golf, track and softball. The camaraderie and life lessons of sports seemed invaluable to me.
With a constant expansion of community with young athletes especially those of a younger age. the youth is becoming a prime target for most colleges, and professional teams. The cream of the crop is getting younger, so to speak. The youth are becoming the new outlet of skills and insight to constantly changing sports such as football, rugby, lacrosse, volleyball, track, and soccer. This is shaping the course of play towards new horizons based off of different ambitions and adaptations in training. One means of greatness will always be the same, run with purpose. whether its purpose to make a statement, improve your training, or be a better athlete. running is one of the key bases in many great athletes and can benefit any individuals sport dramatically.
College can be a scarce transition for individuals, especially for the ones who have lived at home their whole lives. While college is said to be one of the best experiences, there are negative factors that eventually add up. Students who live under their parents roofs or attend high school, usually have their day-to-days lives planned. A typical day in the life of a student may be going to school for eight hours, participating in an activity after school, coming home to a home-cooked meal, and going to bed. Where, college is the first year a student may experience more independence and a non-planned agenda. Most individuals know when going to college they’re going to miss the familiar feeling of their hometown, home-made meals, and their own
Since it has ever began college has been hard to get into. There are people who could get into college but the prices are too high. The prices can reach 10’s of thousands of dollars and they can’t afford to get in.There are too many requirements for what you need from high school to get into college. Colleges look at the grades of the core classes students take and not their electives, the classes they wanted to take and what they will most likely study in college, if they could get in. So why should graduated students even try to get in if it is so hard to? It should be easy and affordable.
Difficulties Attending College Today everyone thinks in order to succeed financially in life they need to have a college education, or at least most of the time this is true. I personally think that despite the many difficulties that a person is faced with, they can overcome their troubles somehow, even though sometimes they can not help but think otherwise. I, myself, have three different reasons why people find it difficult to stay in college. For one, sometimes they still have to keep on working while going to school. Two, they have children, too.
Smoking is a problem. Student debt is a problem. Students’ picking an unhealthy lifestyle is a problem. The problems of college students are mostly spending their money on cigarettes and they don’t realize that students can be in debt. According to Tyler Kinhade a student in Temple University about 42% students who purchases cigarettes are most likely in debt cause of cigarettes. One pack of cigarettes can most about 5-7 dollars in one pack has about 20 cigarettes. Lets say a college student smoked about a half a pack a day that is about $3.50 and half a pack is 10 cigarettes 1 is around 0.25 that means in a year it can cost around $2,520 and that’s a lot of money students are spending. Now here is the problem college student are spending
College success has become a most desirable goal. However, many students struggle through college. In fact, according to the Website Ask.com, approximately 15 percent of college students receive a degree. Because I’m willing to earn a degree like many other successful students, I find that college is the stepping stone to my dream goals. I know that college is difficult, but I realize that attaining my dream of a college education will require me to understand the benefits of what I’m learning, to prepare for obstacles, to seek advice, and to create effective and reasonable strategies will help me achieve my goals.
My sophomore year had begun and I wasn't sure whether or not I was going to do track this year. Last year I played football in the fall and soccer in the spring. Not really enjoying it, the decision was made to play " real futbol" (soccer) in the fall, leaving the spring sports season open. My friend kept telling me how fun track was, so I decided to give it a try.
When I made the decision to return to college to complete a bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) I looked at many universities. I needed a university that was going to work with me not against me with the challenges of my already crazy life. Three challenges that I know I will be presented with during my time in school will be time management, distractions and support.
I believe that the biggest challenge college students face today are personal responsibility and time management. In college, there is a lot of freedom given since you're now and adult and your parents are out of your hair, but for some students, that may be a lot of responsibility for them to take on. Since they're on their own, they have to know how to govern themselves accordingly. Some students fall into the new adult world around them and begin to slip with schoolwork and begin to lose track with their grades. Time Management also seems to play a big position in the adversity that they face. In college, I know that you get to decide what time you go to your classes and
When it was time to warm up I ran a couple of laps around the track. After that, I stretched and started to warm up on the hurdles. The 100 meter hurdles was the first race of the day. When I was done warming up I took off my sweats and went to go get my lane number. I was in lane four. I felt like I’d been waiting forever to run. To make it
As an adult student, it is not easy to manage the demands of work; spouse and children; and the need to set aside time to read, research, write, and complete specified assignments. The biggest complaint conveyed by adult students is that they simply don’t have enough time. The fact is time management is crucial so you don’t lose sight of your goals. Students’ time is a limited resource. Like other limited resources, time can be more or less effectively managed (Britton, 1991, p.405). It is hard to address my perspective of my own procrastination and my ability to learn. Now that I’m older and looking at the facts of where I am now in life, I should be a lot further in my college goals. Many young adults wish someone sat them down early in life and guided them in a wiser direction. A college degree is essential in the career world.
