Social Networking Communities Social Networking has become a really big trend in our time. Most people think social networking sites are bad for teens. Teens all around the world can connect with each other using the internet for communicating through social media. Talking with people you don 't really know is a bad thing because they are complete strangers. I feel like we should not encourage our teens to join social networking communities because they may have a hard time picking up with face to face conversations by not spending face to face bonding time. There are some advantages of social networking communities one of them is making new friends. Most people in the U.S.A use the internet for meeting new people and communicating
You never know the person that 's on the other side of the screen that you are on and you really don 't know what other people on the internet are capable of, there are real life hackers out there that can also gather your information somehow. I have been DDos (Denial of Service) before by other people from the internet and never even knew what was going on or why this was happening to me. This is when people on the internet get your IP address and send attacks to the modem or router through your IP address so you have no internet connection. for a while. This has happened to me several times on a certain video game I was playing on the PlayStation
Some teens are really disrespectful when they get on the media especially when they are talking to someone they have never met or talked to before. They tend to act hard and most teens would never walk up to someone in person and disrespect them. For example, If I 'm online and some teenaged kid decides to start calling me names that 's because he is hiding behind internet, this kid would never talk to me the way he talks to me online if we ever met in person. This is because teens are feeling to comfortable and think they can do and say whatever they want. Another problem that I see on social networking communities is violence with teens on social media. There are many fights that teenaged kids post on social media that you can watch and some videos uploaded may even be posted by someone you know but they may choose to make a fake profile and stay anonymous.. I think social media is making kids too comfortable with hiding online to where they feel they can do anything. There are even some teenagers teaching their self how to hack with the use of
Teen are being slain by cyberbullies everyday. Not all social media is good for teens. Even no social media is better. Almost every teenager has a cellphone or some sort of device that lets them check their social media. Many websites like Facebook, Instagram, and snapchat are bad and can cause teenagers to do bad things to themselves or other people. Banning social media will make teens have better grades, be more safer, and have more self confidence with less depression.
According to Nair (2011), “The social media property on the web is exploding and fast becoming a necessary part of the arsenal of any organization. It took 38 years for the radio to attract 50 million listeners, and 13 years for television to gain the attention of 50 million viewers. The Internet took only four years to attract 50 million participants, and Facebook reached 50 million participants in only one-and-a-half years. Facebook, which was originally designed for Harvard students and launched in 2004, has become a phenomenal example of social engagement. By 2009, Facebook had already achieved 100 million monthly active users covering age groups from 13 to 65; by the end of 2010, there were more than 500 million users. (p. 46) With so many people connected through social media and since businesses are dependent on people to thrive, they have been impacted both positively and negatively.
Teen girls are the most focused on social media's ideal image that the use of social media is putting huge risks in their lives everyday.
This exhibits the behavior of someone who cannot live on without knowing the newest scoop. Teenagers are using these applications to feel connected with each other, even if it goes to the point where it is basically meaningless, or harmful to their health. Most adolescents use social media to avoid having a sense of disconnection with their peers and to have someone to communicate with and share their experiences.
Bullying and social media is leading also a enormous problem on Facebook and all the different applications out there which have to do with social media. Social media death rates have increased the last few years on teenagers using social media on their cellphones and the school’s code of conduct haven’t been doing anything about these serious problems from teenagers taking their lives away or being harassed through social media by the victim. Understanding the values about kids getting harassed or harmed in person or online can cause a huge majority issue for the victims being bullied or leading the victim to commit suicide over a mistake they created by sending nudes to the wrong person with a fake profile. Teenagers who cause a problem by picking on a kid on Facebook, instagram, twitter, Snapchat, etc… don’t realize that their creating a big part and a bigger issue on harming that person by not realizing their really harning that one person 's feelings or heart at the same time . Don’t be a victim to bully others for the looks or how they dress, not everyone is perfect or have everything as others. For instance, “I’m going to kick your butt” is an example of a comment that can still get a bullied in trouble. How the bullied is using those hateful words, can determine them in many different ways to hurt the victim. Also many teenagers don’t understand still how deleting a picture, doesn’t really delete from social media and can still be accessed from anyone. When amanda todd sended her pornography picture at a young age to the man to the shadows. She didn’t realize her picture was going to be on social media forever. Once pictures or any posts deletes can be accessed from anyone online. Also amanda might not haven’t had her information private so one could of gotten her information by that person she wasn’t friends
There are numerous benefits to social networking with sites such as Facebook and Myspace. For one, the increased communication strengthens relationships. Internet users usually tend to have larger social networks than non-users, and by maintaining those relationships online they are able to stay in touch with many more f...
In the world we live in today there is two different interpretations for social network. The word social means socializing or talking with others and the word network means a group or system of interconnected people. While the definition of these two word separately remain the same, when they are put together it brings on two different meanings. Some people think that social network is the personal connection that is made with others thru verbal communication and it establishes a link that attaches one person with another. On the other hand, some people consider social network as a way to communicate with other via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram while not being in close range. As time goes by and easier ways of communication surface through technology the way of socializing and creating contact with each other changes. The link that attaches people with each other is almost no longer personal, but just a mere online connection. There are many advantages in social networking sites like being able to connect with other quicker from
Looking at this the majority of the teenagers lifestyle now is social media. With this change teenagers on social media have become more vulnerable to bullying one of the most common problems with social media, that affects this generation the most, especially the behavior change. The main cause for the bullying online called cyberbullying, is the fact that putting something on the internet versus telling someone face to face, teenagers have found that this is an easier way of a form bullying. The behavior changes are dramatically increased from before bullying to cyberbullying, mainly because the general public can see and talk about it regardless if it involves that individual. By doing this it can severely hurt, and change the behavior of the one getting bullied. But with social media, there’s always good aspects, one good aspect of Social Media is that people can connect from far away places to short distance apps on their phones and computers, meaning that travel can possibly be less important than before, or making long distance relationships easy to keep and establish. As seen on http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/military/story/2011-11-28/military-deployment-social-media/51349158/1. An
There has been controversy as to whether parents should limit the use of social media by teenagers. Teenagers feel that there is no need to limit the use of their social media networking, but on the other hand, parents should feel the need to limit their use and also keep track of their teen’s social networking. Social media allows students to be connected with their peers, teens who post positive status are more likely to be involved in extracurricular activities, and for many teens putting up “selfies” is a self confidence boost; however, too much social media can affect students GPA in school, cyber bullying can affect social health. Social media networks can give out personal information. Social media sites such as Facebook are one of the most popular social media sites that has 700,000-750,000 members joining each day.
Social media can have detrimental effects on the formation of an adolescent’s identity such as social isolation meaning that the individual will spend excessive amounts of time attached to any electronics that will provide him with social media access. Social networking has been debated to have beneficial or detrimental effects, as overuse and abuse of the Internet can be harmful to someone, such as an adolescent. According to the National Crime Prevention Council, over one million teenage girls are victimized psychologically as well as physically, through social media.
Online social networks have grown steadily in influence, especially in the United States, as they become an integral part of the college undergraduates’ culture. One primary social network is the website Facebook, which caters to the culture of undergraduate students, with its free user profiles containing the ability to post pictures, form groups, and create events. The capability of Facebook and other social networks to influence students is evident, but whether the overall effect is positive or negative is questionable. Dr. David M. Eberhardt, who received his doctorate in Education from Florida State University, addresses the issue of online social networks in his article “Facing up to Facebook” found in the publication “About Campus,” a bimonthly magazine focused on particular techniques and influences that college students experience during their education. He argues both the benefits and the negative effects of online social networks, especially those concerning incoming undergraduates while also providing advice to administrators on how to implement social networks in ways that improve students’ education. In the article, Eberhardt’s argument focuses on three inter-related areas of online social networking: the transition to college, the development of student identity and involvement in the campus community, and undergraduates’ learning abilities. However, I think that online social networks are most beneficial in helping undergraduates transition to collegiate life, but they can also lead to the development of more harmful trends in concerns to students’ identities and learning environments.
The time teenagers spend using social media, in front of the computer and with their cellphones, is excessive. People judge social media with different opinions: some people look at social media as an interesting and useful tool and some people just do not like social media at all. What people do not know are the consequences social media can bring to teenagers.
Social media has token a huge step from when it first started. The more the years go by there are new trends and new technology that continues to grow. As the newer technology comes out, the younger the kids are getting their hands on the new gadgets. As a result our younger generation begins to get into the internet having their own accounts to multiple social media websites. Kids don’t realize what they can get themselves into when they get an account, it can lead them to older people (child molesters, Perverts, ect.). Since 2011, teen Twitter use has grown significantly from 16% to 24% (Pew Internet & American Life Project, 2013). These social media accounts can make it easier to cyber bully there victim. Most importantly it takes away their
As in real life, teenagers are very shy of what is coming out of their mouth, but in social media, it’s the opposite, “Social media is preventing us from standing up for ourselves the way we should be” (Thaiatizickas). Facebook is a convenient way to contact a long distance relative or friends, but teenagers are depending on it too much that make them lacked face to face communication. Social media such as Facebook limits the face to face interaction between humankind. Technology has a huge impact on human life and some may take them as an advantage and disadvantage. Many believed that the digital world is their real life and they can meet and talk to whoever they want through messenger and video calls. Teenagers often say the things that they wanted to say through social media, “they are sending messages and content that they would never share at school, often using language that they would never say to someone’s face, a language that, if used with classmates at school, would lead to disciplinary action” (journal by Steiner-Adair). Compare to the previous generations, the younger generations have the effects on social networking that cause them to grow up differently. Social media are now destroying teenagers’ social skills as well as the future
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
