The envisioned future consists of two parts, a 10-to-30-year audacious goal and descriptions about achieving this goal. (Collins and Porras 1996)
The following were goals that I have already achieved: Goals 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10. The following are goals that I personally believe are ongoing goals that will continue throughout my career: Goals 5, 6, and 11 (only because I am continuing to study for the exam). I received a “crash course” in preparation but feel confident in my preparation/education skills with all forms of procedures/diagnoses. I have been approved to chart independently with cosigned notes since my second week of my internship.
This reflection paper is divided into five main sections. The first section gives a general introduction of internship that I was doing during my internship period. The second section provides an overview of the internship practice and tasks that I was assigned to do. The third section is about the office technologies I used during the internship. The fourth section is about the benefits of the RCBC Paralegal Program courses taken as applied to the work that I performed. The final section is devoted to the knowledge and experience that I gained during the course of internship.
This semester I had the opportunity to intern for Rockhill Elementary school through the Spectrum Education program. I was the first student to intern at this location therefore, I did not know what to expect from this internship site. After meeting with the school principal for the first time, I learned that Rockhill had some big dreams to recreate a sensory room that would benefit all children at the school. As an intern, it became my job to create a plan of action for this sensory room. Once the work in this space was completed, I would instruct teachers on how to use the sensory room and work with Rockhill students in the space. Having an internship is very beneficial experience for students and the business sectors and universities involved. The universities that include internship programs in their curriculum, classroom experiences of students in different fields should be improved by providing students more actual application of theories learned through group works and projects. Though university professors are knowledgeable in their area of specialization, an occasional invitation of experts in the modern media to provide lectures and forums is very valuable to further provide students deep knowledge of what is going in the world of media in reality. Although erudite books with brilliant theories are good, there should be also a tangible translation for theories through actual practicums with companies working in the same fields.
I am writing you to indicate my interest in applying for the Volunteer Student Internship Program listed on the Washington Headquarters Services’ webpage. This internship would be a great opportunity for me to learn the intricacies of the Defense Department’s role in policy formulation and execution. I am hoping to intern in the spring of 2016.
The quarter has finally come to an end, and with that, I close out my internship and this class that went along with it. It was a great experience and I leave equipped with a new set of skills that are preparing me for the world ahead. As I write this reflection paper, I think back to the very first week when I set up two goals for myself to focus on and hope to achieve throughout the following weeks. My first goal was to develop a better understanding of myself within the work place, and my second was to develop a strong network to jumpstart my career. Both of my goals were achieved, however, I don’t feel that either of my goals will ever be complete. I believe that you can always formulate a better understanding of yourself, and you can always network to develop a stronger tree of connections. Throughout my internship, I was well trained and did receive a fruitful experience. The real working environment prepared me for future employment after my graduation. However, I did encounter some problems, which I gradually managed to deal with. Whatever happens, productivity increases by keeping a positive attitude.
