For my internship site goals assignment, I was required to create a list of measurable and specific goals. My goals were as follows: 1.) The ability to independently prepare a patient for an IV placement based on developmental age, misconceptions, and understanding, across all ages, 2.) The ability to chart at an above acceptable level for an entry level child life position, including using the preset sections/comments in EPIC, SOAP, APIE, and narrative notes, 3.)To become more comfortable during procedures (i.e., pokes, IV placements, port accesses, etc.) and with my role during different procedures, 4.)To feel confident creating and facilitating group/individual therapeutic and/or medical play sessions and activities, 5.) list of current CL research applicable to my role in the healthcare setting with short summaries of each research article’s results, 6.) To create a running list and/or flashcards of medical terminology to expand knowledge of illnesses/procedures that can have an impact on my role, 7.) To enhance knowledge of preparation/education across diagnoses and procedures, 8.) To be able to pinpoint my personal strengths and weaknesses and accept consecutive criticism to work on personal weaknesses, 9.) To become more self-reflective, 10.) To enhance knowledge of infant development and to incorporate this knowledge into my rotation at NWCH with assessments, interventions, and so forth, and 11.) At the end of the clinical internship experience to be thoroughly prepared to interview/be hired for any entry level child life specialist position, as well as be prepared to sit for the national certification exam and pass on the first attempt.
The following were goals that I have already achieved: Goals 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10. The following are goals that I personally believe are ongoing goals that will continue throughout my career: Goals 5, 6, and 11 (only because I am continuing to study for the exam). I received a “crash course” in preparation but feel confident in my preparation/education skills with all forms of procedures/diagnoses. I have been approved to chart independently with cosigned notes since my second week of my internship.
I only know of one procedure that I do not feel comfortable in (lumbar punctures), but other than that I am comfortable and confident in my role during procedures. I have grown and feel completely confident in creating/facilitate all forms of play sessions. I do have a running list of current research related to child life, but I will continue to add to that list and aim to join the evidence-based practice committee at some point in my career. I also have a running list of medical terminology that will continue to grow throughout my career. I am now able to pinpoint my strengths and weakness and I am more self-reflective. I have received even better training on infant development and have the ability to incorporate this into my service provision. I have completed a mock interview with only positive feedback and feel confident in my interviewing skills. I have begun studying for my certification examination and hope to pass on my first attempt. Overall, I met each of the goals that I set out to achieve for my internship assignment, but I still have a few that I will continue to work on throughout my career.
The goals and objectives that we plan to set will be measurable and obtainable. I would like for the goals and objectives to be measurable so in the evaluation phase I can evaluate Marcels progress and to see if the goals that we have set are being reached.

Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. Before the internship, I thought judges were of course humans, but I was hoping they were nice. I thought it was going to be a bit intimidating, but I knew I looked up and aspired their profession. It was like the day I was going to meet my judge I was so nervous, yet I looked forward to it. I remember I was surprised different Judges would run their courtrooms differently. I thought they would kind of have a similar system for things, which they sort of do, but not completely. Generally speaking, the Judges are great individuals and are very unique. Most of the Judges have lived pretty interesting lives and seem to enjoy their jobs. The Judges seem to be very knowledgeable, and very considerate of the Jury, court reporters, and their clerks. The judges of course seem neutral when in front of the jury as expected. For example, Judge Lippitt, does not allow anytime to speak over each other in her court room she is always saying that they have to be respectful there is a human being recording this, referring to the court reporter. Then, she is very considerate of the Jury and their time, she will tell them the trial is longer at times to make them happy if it ends early. Further, Judge Lippitt really cares about the jury instructions and that they are as neutral as possible. Something I have learned from Judge Lippitt, is that you have to be very careful as a judge to notice when attorney’s are acting a little suspicious. Another very significant lesson I have learned from Judge Lippitt is that preparedness and awareness is really important.
...elieve simply writing these goals out will manifest themselves and I look at where I came from to where I am now and where I can be in the future. I am very enthusiastic about advancing both in academia and career wise above all I am excited about the positive affects my journey will exsanguinate to others clients, family members, friends, and colleagues. As these people will positively affect my journey too in my point of view most things are circular and transactional. We all contribute to each other one way or another.
Name everything from who is involved to what, where, when and why you want to accomplish the goal. Your goal must be clear and well defined. Generalized goals are unhelpful because they don’t provide sufficient direction. Remember, you need the goals to show you the way.
