Power Presentation Reflection Once again our group successfully persevered through the group-project process. We were able to create an informative presentation, and ensure all criteria was met. Reflecting our ability to utilize teamwork in order to effectively collaborate and produce a successful presentation.
Individual Contributions I (Jackie) contributed to the presentation by reviewing, interpreting and presenting an article on how clinicians practice power and by conducting a historical analysis. Moreover, I constructed/formatted our slide-show using information sent to me from group members. I (Victoria) was able to contribute by using a clinical experience for our scenario, researching an article based upon five different power relationships, as well as

We easily agreed on a topic, assigned specific sections to individuals and confirmed that each assigned topic was manageable for everyone. As a group, we collaborated well to develop an initial powerpoint that one group member volunteered to alter and finalize. We were also effective in being adaptive and understanding of each other's needs. Another strength was that we practiced with compassion and recognized when support for one another was required.
Weaknesses
Various challenges were evident throughout the group process including: arranging specific times and locations to meet, miscommunication, and a last minute family emergency. Potentially, the dominant contributing factor to these challenges was the issue of timing within this semester. Group members were all in varying electives, requiring each to have differing assignment priorities. Another issue was that during our group meeting, we noticed that not all members had been a part of our Google Document, where we had been brainstorming, adding information, and observing members
By working together there is information sharing, improve safety and quality also collaboration gives knowledge to other professionals. (Littlechild and Smith, 2013).what I have learned through working in partnership with other professionals was creating a poster related to what each professional does. Some of the professionals I did not know how exactly they work together in partnership. Example: I was not aware of how a radiology would work with a social work and the outcome of that was that Radiology develop and maintain collaborative relationship with medical colleagues and participates in regular meetings with other professionals activities to meet the needs of a service users therefore they collaborate with Social Workers. By doing a poster and delivering information I learned a lot from the other team members, shared experiences knowledge and skills with other group members. Group work made me realise how it is very important to work in multi-displinary team, the benefit of it and what others can benefit from. During the poster each of the student was from different professional however we all had the question but each had to look at it in each profession perspectives. This gave an opportunity to everyone to go and search for each professional and communicate with the rest of the group the outcome of the presentation. By doing that, we exchanged ideas learned from each other’s skills and used it into practice. I have learned about sharing information with others, learned about communication and
Furthermore, the importance of teamwork and collaboration to produce a superior work as a result of bolstering each other strengths was demonstrated in my third artifact, which is a group presentation. Although this project was my first english presentation and I had many feelings encountered, positive and negative ones, it showed me the influence that an orator can convey not only in a massive group but also inside a classroom. Good speakers plan not only the content of their speech but also their style of delivery. Despite the importance of having a clear and logical message to convey, how the message is presented is critical for bringing forth the desire concept (WOVEN 229).
According to our text, Communicating at Work, an effective team has eight characteristics. These characteristics are: clear and inspiring shared goals; a results driven structure; competent team members; unified commitment; collaborative climate; standards of excellence; external support and recognition; and principled leadership. A group goes through four stages in becoming an effective team; forming, storming, norming, and performing (Adler and Elmhorst, 240, 251). Most of the characteristics of an effective team are brought to the team by one or more members, others are formed during the development process.
After re watching my own presentation I have noticed many different things that I didn’t think of or notice when I was originally presenting it. While watching it some of the things that I think I did well on where first my talking. This is something that I know I did better on because I did my presentation a little different from everyone else. Another thing that I think worked well for my presentation was the word to picture ratio. I felt like I did a good job not putting my entire script on the screen but enough to give the class a good summery about what I was talking about. Some areas of the rubric that I still think I need to work on is being more specific on answering the essential question making it more obvious as to what my over
Three Caucasian female members (AP, BH, and CT) discussed the group’s middle stage skills. Because CT had never facilitated any in-class small group, she wanted to be a facilitator. “Round robin” (Toseland & Rivas, 2012, p. 74) represented our interaction pattern. When we took turns to talk about specialized intrapersonal, interpersonal, and environmental interventions, we also included examples from our field placements. We paid attention to the time management and included termination stage during which we summarized the readings and field experiences. Effects of our group’s cohesion were especially evident in areas of perseverance toward goals and taking responsibility for group functioning (Toseland & Rivas, 2012). Fortunately, we did not experience the “group think” phenomenon where “groups become close minded and the pressure for conformity limits methodical search and appraisal procedures” (Toseland & Rivas, 2012, p.
When working on a group project, there are certain skills that are required to make sure that the tasks are being carried out smoothly. With that in mind, it is critical to keep an open line of communication as well as an understanding of the other individuals in the group. The following scenario is of a group project I was a part of that had a breakdown in the two points expressed above.
In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.
In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.
My co-operative behavior and the agreeable behavior I exhibited contributed to the harmony and the success of the group. The co-operation that was exhibited was relative to prompt arrival to meetings, meeting group deadlines, and thorough participation in the discussions and the forums of the group. While I was indeed co-operative for most of the group sessions, I was not afraid to speak my mind. My strongest writing skills were illustrated with the expression and analysis of the benefits and the drawbacks associated with the group project.
our thought process, and how we contribute to the process of group work. This involves a
The topic of the presentation was unanimously decided and each member was handed their topic in which they were supposed to do their research. Some of the members were happy with their topics, while few were left with no options and finally agreed. In the third week, the group reached the Norming stage (Tuckman, 1965) and by considering everyone’s availability from classes and job commitments, every Wednesday’s were decided to meet for the team meetings. Besides, a group was created on ‘whatsapp’ (a smartphone application) known as ‘Healthcare assignment group’ for quick interactions and to update members about any changes to group meetings. It definitely proved an important application for the completion of our team’s project.
Working together with other people for an assignment can be a challenging task in some cases but luckily, I worked well with my group members. The decisions we made were anonymous although we paced ourselves individually when it came to completing our separate parts of the essay. As a group I believe that we connected well on an interpersonal level as all four of us were able to make alterations to any problem together . Furthermore, we did not give each other a chance to get angry at one another as we knew that this would only cause conflict that would disrupt our flow as a group. There was an equal divide in the amount of work that we all did; our contributions were fair and no one was lacking behind. In addition, my group members were great at keeping each other informed if one of us were not able to attend a group meeting; emails were sent out informing us what we missed and ideas that were formulated. Everyone in my group worked according to deadlines and in synchronization with each other; we did not have to nag anyone to complete work or wait on a member to complete their task.
We observed the occurrence of synergy as we worked together with a significant deal of cooperation between members of the team. Previously, none of us were found to be dominant in our specific divisions and there are many groups in the presentation with exceptional skills to succeed. But, coming together in this group, we are able to succeed from other groups in presentation while demonstrating the significant synergetic group work. We were not able to win on individual level but our contribution to the group has combined to influence our performance positively and letting us achieve our goal of winning maximum marks. It is important for us to note that we would not be able to gain success in this presentation on individual basis but contributions from each of us combined to let us achieve our goal of gaining maximum marks in this task. We met every two weeks whenever we had our employment classes and these meetings were productive. These meetings went well but they could have been more productive if we had structured a proper schedule for maximising our meeting time. While considering the potentials of our group, our coach informed us that our group can only win if we want to and this caused a positive reaction with the confidence. None of us had any issues of ego and self-centeredness but instead we all wanted our group to perform outstanding. We consistently possess
I am generally happy with my partnered presentation. I articulated the points I was hoping to convey in four minutes and thirty seconds, which I think is acceptable in an eight minute presentation, I felt I projected my voice appropriately for the room, and I am proud that I was able to stand so far into the alligator pit throughout the entire presentation. Although initially I felt uncomfortable standing so close to the audience, I think my forward presence had a strong impact on how my presentation was received. For my final presentation, I may try to practice in our actual classroom to accustom myself to the room as opposed to practicing in a side room because although we practiced numerous times in a side room, as soon as I stood up in front of the class, the environment felt overwhelmingly different. I am extremely embarrassed by the constant fidgeting of my clothes and hope to resolve the issue by wearing a jacket or more comfortable clothes for my final presentation.
It’s finally here; your big moment, your time to shine. You shift in your seat, adjust the papers in your binder. The discussion in the background has blended together, inaudible to you. “Don’t mess this up”, you think, and reiterate a few more times in your head. The dull mumbles crash into full volume as you hear your name; it’s your turn – you’re next on the agenda. You swallow hard, you clear your throat, and you stand up to shuffle your way to the presentation floor. Before you, sit about fifteen members of your board: some men, some women, some young, some old, and all equally as frightening at this very moment. After all, this is your first board presentation.
