Abstract

"Pluralism is the greatest philosophical ideal of our time" . Since 1789, when the First Amendment, Freedom of religion was proposed, our country has been attempting to create a union of equality and loyalty to one's religious beliefs. Pluralism is the ability to acknowledge and embrace a society that consist of multicultural beliefs, tradition, and values. Our country is diverse but not pluralistic. We have yet to quit attacking, verbally abusing, and appearing respectful to those with. a faith of minority.

The media has the ability to shape a terrorist story and make it appear to benefit whom they wish. The misconception of the Muslim community, specifically the Islamic faith began after the 9/11

event. The media has magnified our fears towards the Muslim communities because of the Islamic radical, whom the media have used to paint them as a whole. The aftermath of 9/11 overlooked to acknowledge any Muslim American first responder. According to the FBI 2014 statistical reports Anti-Muslim hate crimes used to be the second-least reported, but in 2001, they became the second-highest reported among religious-bias incidents, after anti-Jewish hate crimes.

Pluralism is the greatest philosophical ideal of our time. It seems that given the events since 9/11 we have regressed. Despite our persistent attempt to be a religious pluralist our country has regressed significantly and has exhibited behavior that implies an Anglo conformist perspective. We can begin to change our perspective by respecting different religions and cultures. Educating our community and society with the same weapon that has worked against them, the media. We can begin by eliminating all preconceived ideas of any religion organizations, not allowing the media to manipulate our perspective and respecting peoples individual
