Both Lavender and Scarlet get a devil’s food cake with pink frosting on their birthday in the book Switched at Birthday. This cake seems to appear many times during the book, and is clearly inserted by the author, Natalie Standiford, for a reason. At first glance, this could be overlooked as just a coincidence, but a further glance shows that the pink devil’s food cake is actually there to symbolize Scarlet’s and Lavender’s personalities. The pink devil’s food cake appears early on in the book, when Lavender gets her cake. “The cake was a store-bought devil’s food with pink frosting and an orange wax candle shaped like the number thirteen. I loved devil’s food but the candle was really ugly.” (pg. 23) The same cake also appears on Scarlet’s
On Tuesday October 18, the members of Group 6 met to discuss the challenges facing Remycake Bakery and its employees. During this meeting, we discussed the problem solving and decision making modes we will implement to help Remycake Bakery, the communication tactics to utilize, and a final problem or topic statement for our next group activity. Our team evaluated the Remycake Bakery to assess the changes that have caused a rise in customer complaints over the last six months. The founders of Remycake Bakery believed the culture produced at RemyCake was what made their bakery unique, original, and what set it apart from competitors.
Most people are trapped into believing that Canada is a very diverse place to live as it welcomes many cultures, but do not realize what happens to their culture when they have lived in Canada after time. Throughout the stories Simple Recipes by Madeleine Thien and A Short History of Indians in Canada by Thomas King, the authors tell the actions of what is happening in the characters lives to show the stripping of other cultures when they come to Canada. These two stories reveal how difficult it can be to be a person with a different culture existing in Canadian society.
In the short story “The Possibility of Evil,” Shirley Jackson uses several symbols to tell the story about Miss Strangeworth. One symbol she uses consist of the roses that Miss Strangeworth treasures. The roses represent the love and perfection of Miss Strangeworth. As we know, Miss Strangeworth believes that the world is horrible and unclean and that she is the only perfect person. She loves her roses dearly which emphasizes her needs for everything to be perfect just like her. She values her roses so much because only she takes care of them making them a symbol of perfection and becomes one of the items that Miss Strangeworth loves and sees as superior to other roses. Another symbol Jackson uses compose of Pleasant Street, the street that
The movie, The Outsiders, starts with the Curtis parents on their weekly, Saturday evening drive to the baking store to buy some ingredients for their boys’ favorite Sunday morning, breakfast treat: chocolate cake. The Curtis boys love their chocolate cake for Sunday breakfast not only because they love it, but also because they appreciate how hard their parents have to work to save the monies necessary for the morsels that put smiles on their faces!
While reading Like Water for Chocolate, I thought that how the girl named Tita was not allowed to marry the guy she loved and how she had to watch her sister marry him was interesting. However, I thought that the element was somewhat magical when she was making her sister Rosaura's wedding cake, and at the same time, she was thinking of Pedro whom she is in love with and he is now marrying her sister. As she was thinking of him, she began to cry. As she was crying, a tear drop went into the cake, and they were afraid that it messed up the meringue. I have not baked much, especially using meringue, but I felt that part was a little magical to me.

I also remember that in our walking cooler, there are a lot of small containers piled up, with left filling or ingredients from the previous product. We did not throw away any leftover ingredients, but we rarely think about reuse them. We can make fruit bars or Rum balls with left over, but we also can make better or higher-priced products using any left over filling or cream. Chocolate cake is a four layer cake. It is like a normal chocolate cake, with a perfect structure.
Almost every aspect of the original scene from the still frame of the movie is used except this crucial part has been altered to convey the meaning he is stressing. Although the object is changed from an apple to a “Big Mac” box it still has the same shades of red as the original. This color is typically used to symbolize stoppage or to warn of possibly hazardous material. Many would argue that changing such a small part of the scene would deem the new artwork as unoriginal and claim that Holmes stole the creativity of deceased Joe Grant, the artist behind the making of the evil witch. On the contrary, changing the apple to a more relevant type of poisoning to this day and age is one of the reasons why this painting is unique and original. This change draws attention to the overuse of and addiction to convenient fast food, and the harmful effects it has on our bodies. It also comments on the bad habits the younger generations are being overexposed to through communicating this message through the artwork of a children’s movie. This overexposure leads to it being a seemingly normal habit in the eyes of the
The main problems that are affecting the company were the high level of labour turnover, below target production rates, high levels of scrap, the employees had little input in the decision making, therefore resulting in low motivation and job satisfaction, and didn't have enough feedback on there performance. Added to this was the conflict between the supervisors and employees in the production and packing areas, and the grading and payment levels wasn't satisfactory to the employees.
