My experience as a Pierce College student has been great due to meeting exciting new friends and taking interesting classes. Although, one problem I face as a Pierce College student is the Wi-Fi on campus. The Wi-Fi on our campus is a complete joke. The Wi-Fi at Pierce College has trouble connecting to whatever device we use. For example, the Wi-Fi address will pop up on my phone, but when I try to connect, it absolutely refuses to connect. Then, when it does connect, the Wi-Fi signal is so slow, that there is no point in using the free internet. In addition, the signal is so weak that it doesn’t reach the entire campus, and creates a problem if an emergency were to happen. This problem not only causes more problems for me, but to my fellow …show more content…
college peers. To prove that this problem exists, I’ve interviewed my fellow peers: Vanessa Gopez and Kurt De Leon. I’ve asked both what problems they have faced with slow and no Wi-Fi at all. Vanessa Gopez has shared with me the struggles she faces with completing her online homework on time due to the slow signal of the school Wi-Fi. She also informed me that she goes to the library to be undisturbed and that the campus’ internet problems stress her out more when she has to submit an assignment by a certain deadline. According to Gopez, she claims that “Pierce’s Wi-Fi is a complete joke. With all the money that the students give, you’d expect them to provide better Wi-Fi.” Gopez’s point is that the students deserve better than what they’re given for, for the amount of money that students pay to the school. The next peer I’ve interviewed, Kurt De Leon, has informed me that he has the same problems as me with connecting to the Wi-Fi on campus.
In addition, he also has informed me that since the Wi-Fi signal doesn’t reach the entire campus, it created a problem for him. For instance, the network will simply appear on his phone and when he tries to connect, the phone simply refuses to connect saying that it doesn’t exist. He explained to me that he wastes more time trying to solve the problem on his phone, than focusing on finishing his assignments. In addition, he had a problem reaching his family the day a family member needed to receive emergency surgery due to the Wi-Fi signal not reaching the entire campus. According to De Leon, “I hardly ever use the Wi-Fi here. What’s the point? You get no service either way.” De Leon’s point is that the campus has hardly any cell reception, and hardly any Wi-Fi. These are the reasons as to why Pierce College has a couple of Wi-Fi problems. There are several potential solutions to solve the Wi-Fi problems on campus.
The first solution I believe can solve the Wi-Fi problems at Pierce College are placing more Wi-Fi routers throughout the school. Instead of having Wi-Fi routers in two or three areas, there can be a Wi-Fi router in each building on campus. Having more Wi-Fi routers throughout the school will make it more available for students. In addition, it means that students won’t have to go near or to the library just to receive internet

service. Not only that, it can alleviate the strain that is slowing down the Wi-Fi signal at the campus. This could mean that there will be a lot more availability than what we have now. I believe this solution can work based on my personal experience with Wi-Fi problems in my house. At my house, we have so many devices that connect to the Wi-Fi router such as our phones to our video game systems to our laptops. With all these devices, our Wi-Fi connection seemed to slow down and had a hard time loading anything. When we decided to get a second router, it seemed like the perfect solution to everything wrong with our internet. We have one router just for our video games systems and for our televisions. The second router is just for our laptops and phones. This solution has made a simple task so much easier than just having one router. If two routers were needed for just our devices at home, imagine how many devices are putting a strain on the Wi-Fi at Pierce College. This is the reason why I believe this solution can potentially work. A second solution I believe can help resolve the Wi-Fi problems at Pierce College is that the campus can spend a little bit more money to replacing the Wi-Fi routers.
By replacing the Wi-Fi routers every two to three years, it will ensure that the students will experience the best Wi-Fi that the campus has to offer. The Wi-Fi signal will run more smoothly, and is something I believe Pierce College should invest in. Since Pierce College students rely heavily on the internet for their academic success, we need to make sure that the routers receive the best upkeep and care. The routers are needed to be replaced whenever the signal drops and then returns. In addition, they need to be replace whenever someone can only access the internet on some days and some
not. I believe this solution can work based on my Father’s personal experience in 2014. During the summer of 2014, our Wi-Fi signal was sluggish and would often disconnect itself and reconnect every few hours or so. When my family finally was fed up, we decided to get a replacement and call AT&T U-Verse with the problems of our 3-year old router. Since we had a fully warranty, a technician was sent to our house to replace the router. When the technician came, my father Juan Lopez, was asking the technician questions as to when we should replace our routers. The technician told us what signs to look out for, as mentioned in the previous paragraph. This is the reason why I believe this solution can help solve the campus’ problem. A third solution I believe can help campus’ Wi-Fi coverage, is using a Wi-Fi range extender. A range extender connects wirelessly to any router that retransmits signals to expand the Wi-Fi signal coverage. It looks like a little charger with antennae that is plugged in a wall near or halfway from the routers. The signal can cover about 100-200ft. If we plug in these extenders near or halfway from the routers at Pierce, the signal will be able to reach into the entire campus. Students will no longer have a problem with the Wi-Fi signal in our campus, and won’t have to go to specific areas just to get the best signal possible. I believe this solution can work based on my Father’s personal experience at work. He works at an insurance company called CoverHound. His company is a large two floor building. According to him, “When I first started working there in 2016, the Wi-Fi there was terrible. It even got to the point where the company lost two weeks of work because the signal was so terrible and hardly had any coverage for the building.” My Father’s point is, that since the company didn’t pay attention to their own Wi-Fi, the company lost two weeks’ worth of work. Since the company relies heavily on their Wi-Fi to talk with their clients and other employees, they replaced all the Wi-Fi systems and placed a range-extender to make sure that the company didn’t lose business. Since my father is tech savvy, he’s noticed these extenders placed on the walls in the office. This is why I believe this solution can potentially work. In my conclusion, one of the biggest problems that Pierce College students face is the Wi-Fi at our campus. The Wi-Fi signal doesn’t have full coverage of the campus. Next, students face trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi connection, and whenever they manage to connect, the Wi-Fi signal is so weak that there isn’t even a point to having free Wi-Fi. These problems can easily be solved if more Wi-Fi routers were placed throughout the campus. Next, another possible solution is spending a little bit more money to replacing the Wi-Fi routers for the best signal possible. Lastly, another solution can be placing Wi-Fi range extenders so the Wi-Fi actually reaches throughout the campus. It is important that Pierce College fixes these problems because it affects the students’ academic progress and communication with others. Many students at Pierce rely on the free Wi-Fi to complete their course load and whatever else they need to complete outside their academics. Not fixing these problems with the Wi-Fi can affect the student’s class grades, research assignments, communication with their family, etc. If this solution isn’t fixed, this can affect the students of Pierce College in many different ways.
Many students realized that within their first two years semesters of college, the workload is inevitably heavier and even overwhelming than when they were in high school. After reading “Cyberschool” by Clifford Stoll, there is a shocking point that he makes very obvious to his readers. Stoll implies that what his essay is about is not to be taking into consideration because he pokes fun at the idea of the cyber-schooling. Cyber-schooling consists of each student having their own computer; all teachers are fired and retrained to become data entry clerks that answer student’s emails. In addition, this type of “future school” that Stoll describes has each student working at his or her own pace. They will get CD-ROM’s that have educational games that are programmed to help prepare students for standardized testing. Stoll brings to life the many details that many improve Camden County College. It is quite obvious that there are countless changes that could make this an optimal learning environment. The best way to create such an environment is to have a plethora of classes, up to date buildings, and additional parking.
The only problem is, whose fault is it? Northwestern University has on campus housing; however, the University is completely engulfed within the community. Living off campus is one of the benefits of going to NU, because the community and environment around the campus is extremely college oriented. When you have an environment that is so conducive to the typical college student, obviously they are going to treat the surrounding territory as their territory. So then the issue really becomes, whose fault is it? Who is to blame for the noise complaints and the rude, rowdy behavior?
Wi-Fi services are economical to the community, since they provide internet services as utility to the whole community rather than concentrating on a few individuals. They are also much cheaper than having individual businesses and households paying private firms to acquire internet network services, which are in this case availed to the community at no cost or at very low charges. Apart from its economic advantage, Wi-Fi technology is also capable of enhancing a municipality’s management and public safety , especially when used directly. In addition, Wi-Fi is viewed as a social ...
I am planning on taking honors English 10 next year. Because English 9 does not do grammar, but Honors does, I was wondering if there was something I could do over the summer to be prepared for the grammar next year. I know it is the end of the year and everyone is super busy but if you could put together some grammar papers or let me sign out a grammar book for the summer it would be much appreciated.
Data do not show whether the department was equipped with technological infrastructure. However, Zhi-Kai's advisor employed slides, video-recording, and his own website.
Wi-Fi facilitates ease of use and is getting increasingly popular with homes and businesses. Multiple Wi-Fi Access Points can be located in a given area. Wi-Fi security issues continue to be a problem, as the number of Access Points grows.
..., the potential to access content is restricted to a single location. This might not be as big of a problem as it appears though because according to Cisco’s polls, “users report that two–thirds of their usage is at home or work, with only ten to fifteen percent being ‘on the go’ or outside of retail and public locations that are increasingly wired to Wi–Fi” (See Table 2). Not only is Wi–Fi a much more efficient approach to postponing the spectrum crunch, it is largely consumers’ preferred mode of access to internet. Consumers report that Wi–Fi is not only better for them in regards to cost, but also in quality. (See Table 3)
Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. I believe that cell phone use is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial aspects, among it's so called "faults".
They have great facilities such as advanced computer labs where students can work and use the most advanced computer programs. Ted Rogers also offers breakout rooms which is a group study and discussion room which can be booked for three hours a day with a maximum ofsix hours per week, which is perfect for focusing on the given task without any noise or distractions. On top of these great features that Ted Rogers offers, they also offer study spaces that overlook the center courtyard, accessible bathrooms on each floor that are not gender-specific – the Ted Rogers School of Management is the only building on campus to offer these, 227 access points on ceilings all over the Ted Rogers School of Management, which has made the building’s Wi-Fi faster and reliable, and RU Dining, which operates out of the Cara Commons, is a student-run dining room serving lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the semester. Not knowing what Ted Rogers has to offer due to lack of advertising could affect how many students choose to apply or transfer to this program. Future students don’t know what to expect coming to a new school and will question their decision about whether or not to come to this school or choose another school. The most important thing a school can offer is a good reputation and having more and more students graduate with degrees making the school
The current environment consists of basically nothing right now because there is not library on the Exton campus. The only way for students to use a campus library as of now is to go the main campus of Delaware County Community College in Newtown Square. This is rather inconvenient for most people because many reasons. For example the student may have a family to take care of and therefore not have the extra time to be travelling so far to use a library. Also some students may not have the use of a car in order to travel that far to use a campus library. The only way for an Exton campus student to use the main campus library is to request that certain books be sent to the Exton campus where they can pick them up and use them. This can be a rather lengthy process and most students do not even know this service is available. The only other choice students have right now is to make the drive to main campus. Because...
An attacker wishing to disrupt a wireless network has a wide arsenal available to them. Many of these tools rely on using a faked MAC address, masquerading as an authorized wireless access point or as an authorized client. Using these tools, an attacker can launch denial of service attacks, bypass access control mechanisms, or falsely advertise services to wireless clients.
Wireless internet provides connectivity to students with laptops, tablets, and cellular devices in order to create a more accessible and productive learning environment. However, the idea that learning and accessibility should stop in a classroom limits the potential of the student and the university. Outdoor wireless connectivity is a major issue at Indiana University. Although, inside most buildings the connectivity is stable, wifi connectivity outside campus buildings is extremely weak.
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones attract the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves with a sense of security. By permitting the use of cellphones in school, students can increase their knowledge and complete school work by using applications and other features on their smartphones.
Lock Down Your Wi-Fi Network: 8 Tips for Small Businesses | PCWorld. (n.d.). Retrieved from http://www.pcworld.com/article/244012/lock_down_your_wi_fi_network_8_tips_for_small_businesses.html
Nowadays cell phone and technology are progressing by leaps and bounds and almost everyone has some kind of electronic device like iPad, cell phones or tablets. Those days are gone. Those days are gone when people were depending on their desktop computers in their homes and workplaces, this is advanced period and innovation has made it very easy for people to communicate with each other and as the business area is also progressing and people like to check their emails and call their contact or do business meetings on Skype. In this case, if they are traveling from one city to another it will create disturbance in their work if there is no internet or Wi-Fi available. People believe that Wi-Fi technology should not be free in every city and there should be proper charges, but I believe that it is very important for every city to keep the Wi-Fi service free for their citizen.
