PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT
Helping people is something that I can remember doing on a regular basis from a very young age. Helping other is just a way of life that I have grown up in. Having the ability to help others is something that I feel is the simplest thing a person can recognize in themselves. This can be easily done and I feel that there is no earthly reason why you shouldn’t.
Looking back on my life I can identify this characteristic in myself in junior high and high school. The event that set the tone for my life I believe was helping with a special needs student who would had withdrawn from class and went under a table to retreat from the everyone. The teachers made the decision to come and got me out of class to go to the elementary to work with this child. I successfully got him to come out from under the table and re-engage in the activities of the day.
I feel that having grown up in a small rural community has also fostered my desire to help others. Such a setting allows you to know a lot about other and what is going on in their lives. When a major life event happened no matter if it was good or bad allowed the community to pull together and help those in need. I have never been quite sure what I wanted to do as an adult. I began this journey with obtaining an A.A. in Criminal Justice. This was an area that I very much enjoyed however, there were limited opportunities in my area to use that degree. I went on to decide to obtain my bachelor’s degree and determined that I would get this in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I learned during this process that I very much liked these subjects and was very happy with my choice. I felt I was heading in the right direction in my life with the completion of these
