One reason for Reflection being used is to give practitioners the chance to change an aspect within their setting, which they feel can be improved in order to help the development of children within their practice. Reflective practice is about improving practice and coming up with theories to support the improvement (Holmes, 2011, p.7). Reflective practice using critical reflection will allow the practitioners to identify what they do well and what they need to improve on within their Early Years settings. It can also give practitioners the opportunity to develop their professional identity, and work at improving their working environment (Forde et al, 2006, p.65, 66). By allowing practitioners the chance to improve their working environment, it can have a huge influence on the children and their development within the Early Years. Professional development is a lifelong journey. In order for one to examine his/her individual skills, qualities, needs, and opportunities, one must be able to identify future goals. Part of identifying future goals is being able to recognize weaknesses, use of time management, and different ways to invest in oneself to make the most of his/her future. Creating a professional development allows an individual to create an action plan based on his/her values, beliefs, and experiences to advance oneself in a career situation.
Each individual’s career path is distinctive and depends upon the individual’s outlook, behavior, work experiences, and activities. The incentives associated with career development are universal and include increasing one’s earning potential and acquiring additional skills and abilities that are attractive to any organization. Training and development are important factors in helping individuals develop talent, motivation, and leadership skills that will contribute to a successful personal and professional career.
On the basis of the identified needs, we can set goals on when to develop those skills, what are our intended results and the strategies to achieve them. My personal and professional development plan on the basis of the identified development needs is as follows:
The intention of reflective practice is to help the teacher/learning coach evolve and develop the quality of their teaching by the continuation of personal development. Although most teachers have done this for years, reflective modelling or methods have formulized a structure which can be followed and adapted to best suit their methods. It is an ongoing process which takes feelings and emotions into consideration and so it will not always have a definitive answer/ending. Since most models of reflection require subjective and objective thinking then there is a willingness to be honest to engage constant self appraisal. It asks that the teacher become flexible analytical and socially aware when addressing their chosen model of reflection.
Through self development program employees will gain carrier growth, become competence, multi tasking, high confidence level, self esteem, good teamwork, had a vision, motivation and appetite in the journey for self development.

Personal Development is a lifelong process that involves the assessment of current skills and talents and the enhancement of oneself based on that assessment which then leads to the realization of goals and an improved quality of life. To be able to assess yourself, you need to be able to reflect on your past which helps you to understand the attitudes you have developed and the foundation that you will be building your life on. Also, you have to reflect on your present to see if there’s room for improvement and reflect on your future so that you can achieve your aspirations.
Professional development deeps teachers understand of new teaching strategies or helps reinforce current teaching strategies. This is a time for teachers to grow as educators so they can help their students become more successful. When professional development is implemented correctly it can leave teacher feeling confident in their ability to implement new teaching techniques or it can leave teachers discourage and confused. Linda Darling-Hammond’s article discusses several different studies in professional development. These studies concluded that professional development that is given over several hours and throughout several months is more successful that professional development that is only given in a few hours and over a couple of days.
