Persuasive Letter
Dear Coquille School District, I am writing you in regards to extending the length of our lunch period. It is currently only 30 minutes long which does not give us, as students, enough time to eat lunch. Especially if you are like me, and like to go home to eat lunch with your family. In some families, the family members work long hours and they don’t necessarily get to see one another very often. If students were given enough time it is very possible that they could enjoy their lunch with family members and enjoy quality time with them..
Not only could a longer lunch period allow students to spend more time with their family, but it would also allow students more time to work on schoolwork and retake tests. According to
a recent study conducted on 1,000 high school teachers, it concluded that on average high school teachers assigned about 3.5 hours of homework to their students each week. For high school students who have a minimum of five classes, that frequently assign homework, this could mean students are assigned as much as 17.5 hours of homework each week. With 17.5 hours of homework, many students are unable to finish their homework after school because many participate in after school activities, which means they need to finish their homework over lunch. With only 30 minutes of lunch a day, it barely allows students to scratch surface of their average work load. Dr.Harold Iverson, from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, claims that longer lunch periods can make students more productive throughout the remainder of the day. He believes that longer lunch periods allow students to socialize and release a larger amount of energy which will allow them to focus more on schoolwork, and less on socializing. He also believed that longer lunch periods give students more time to get mentally rested for the rest of the day. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope you will seriously consider what I had to say about extending our lunch period. Sincerely, Keith Christensen
Class periods lasting 120 minutes instead of the usual 50 minutes give teachers more time to go in depth into their lesson plans. In my experience, both my biology teacher and my foods teacher have expressed their want for longer class hours. They have struggl...
Wandering kids. Bumper to bumper traffic. Drug dealing. Is this the picture drawn when local students have fifty minutes of freedom during lunch to do whatever they please? Students should not be allowed to leave their school campus during lunch. An open campus would lead to truancy, disturb local businesses and neighborhoods, and cause crime.
On the other hand, having open campus lunch would force students to learn time management and teach them what future responsibilities for college and employment. Students would have thirty minutes to get where they would choose to eat and back while remaining punctual. Some students would receive tardies, some would be early, some would be right on time, and some would not return. Since high school prepares students for college, having open campus lunch would be a great thing for students to get
Students may need to nap to compensate for energy expended throughout the day. However, if schools were to start later, adolescents would not have to nap, allowing for a larger window of time to spend with their families after school, even with a later start time. Another opposing argument is that students would have less time to participate in extracurricular activities. However, this issue can be resolved by making practices for sports and club meetings shorter and more frequent to accommodate the schedule variation. Overall, the benefits of later start times far outweigh the drawbacks.
According to NPR it says that if kids get 20 minutes, they eat 35% less than kids with 25 minutes to eat. “Dedicating to little time for lunch leads to rapid eating which is not good for your health as doctor Patrick Serog told Le Figaro the French newspaper “when we eat quickly we don’t have time to feel satisfied.”
Dining facilities, especially the main on-campus food facility, Gibbons Dining Hall, need to remain open later to accommodate everyone. By giving students more time to eat, more students would opt for the more costly meal plans and not have to load up on snacks and other items from off campus stores such as Wal-mart. The less students go off campus, the more likely their revenue is to stay in the university. The addition of dining hours would certainly benefit everyone involved in the university.
This will give us the extra push that's needed so the lunch expansion won't be a problem. You’ll still be getting your education and also being provided with more than enough time to devour your delicious lunch meals. Teachers may think this is a great idea. However, students will not want to read a book or do any assignments in this period of time. The hour of lunch should be about eating and eating only. Reading a book will not harm you what so ever. It will only make you better.
Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where
The United States should be the strongest country in the world. We, the Virginians and all other neighboring states should stand together to make it the best country, where people have dignity and freedom. In order to make our country better, we have to have a different way of ruling the country, we should have a stronger central government, where wise, politically educated, and experienced candidates are in our government, rather than average citizens make major decisions. Men are ambitious, “men are not angels”, as James Madison said. We, the founding fathers think realistically, not idealistically. If only one man from each state represented the states, the rate of making the wrong decision is way higher. Having a different type of government will allow you, the citizens and the government make the decisions for the country to enhance the rules and overall
This could result in terrible grades. Also, this would interfere with extra-curricular actives, such as sports. With less time to do homework, students might not be able to do sports, and would become unhealthy. Students can get bullied for their weight or size. Others might not think they are comely. Also, with less time to do work, students can get terrible grades. The consequences of long lunches are unacceptable. We cannot do
Extending students lunch period can benefit in many ways. First, it can help students who have to wait in the long lunch lines. A friend of mine always buys school lunches. Everytime she arrives at the lunch table with her food, she has no time to eat. Instead of having
Having to eat school lunch is not the best. Eating school lunch is like eating in prison. People may think that eating off school campus is a bad idea but it's not. Although some students will come back late for school, they will have enough energy to get through the day. If they are to come back late then only the students that come back on time should be allowed to leave the second time.
There are many opinions and studies about reforming school days. Some people are concerned that longer school days would bring more difficulties. However, there are numerous studies and practical examples that prove that we improve students’ performance by lengthening school days. Finally, the economy and our society will benefit from expanding school days.
Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like. Students dint have much time to eat at lunch. “Children are more likely to eat fruits and vegetables when given 25 minutes. Michelle Obama said that school lunches are healthier. The national poll show that more than 80 percent support healthy school meals. I’m against the school lunch policy. I believe that school lunch should be better for the following reasons that students what better food, also lunches need to have more food, more time.
There are many students at Wellington-Napoleon High School that take classes directly after lunch that require physical activity. If students get physical directly after eating, it could cause them to throw up. That is why I believe we should get more time at lunch. It gives the students more time to digest food before having to work out.
