Imagine yourself as a student waiting in a long lunch line. When you finally sit down to enjoy your delicious meal, then the sound of the lunch bell rings and everyone departs to their next class. It will give students a longer time to eat, socialize, and it will give students a break from classes.
Extending students lunch period can benefit in many ways. First, it can help students who have to wait in the long lunch lines. A friend of mine always buys school lunches. Everytime she arrives at the lunch table with her food, she has no time to eat. Instead of having
students rush to eat their food, they should be able to eat peacefully and at an appropriate pace. Extending the lunch period can also benefit by giving students more time to socialize with friends. This can help teachers in class by not having many students talk amongst their friends too much. In conclusion, expanding students lunch period can benefit every student in many ways. Students will be more focused in class. A student should never feel rushed when eating, especially when they have a lot on their minds, such as homework and tests. Go and make this change because a lot of students will certainly appreciate it!

Students should not be allowed to leave their school campus during lunch. An open campus would lead to truancy, disturb local businesses and neighborhoods, and cause crime.
On the other hand, having open campus lunch would force students to learn time management and teach them what future responsibilities for college and employment. Students would have thirty minutes to get where they would choose to eat and back while remaining punctual. Some students would receive tardies, some would be early, some would be right on time, and some would not return. Since high school prepares students for college, having open campus lunch would be a great thing for students to get
Do you ever think you are rushed during lunch and not able to have a good lunch experience? I do! Here at my school we get 18 minutes of lunch (I timed it myself). Compare our lunch of 20 minutes time to the1hour - 2 hours lunch that the french children get. Our lunch time is not a lot of time.
Every student in all grades were able to leave during the time a scheduled class did not occupy. (Saslow, Linda. “Schools split on “open campus” NYtimes.com). Limited, restricted, and restrained. Are you having enough time to fully demolish your food in lunch? Do you have a problem enjoying lunch knowing you have to rush? Longer lunches for everyone will be extremely beneficial in many ways. I’m assuming that most of you will argue that expanding lunch isn't harmful. You'll probably agree that longer many periods expose pros. However they're cons included such as a decrease in time to get for filled with education. Although that's horrible students need a break some times. Administrators need to extend lunch to one hour.
We all remember that day when President Obama took office, and our school lunches changed forever. First Lady Michelle Obama, felt that too many American kids are overweight, so she thought she needed to make our school lunches healthier, with more fruits and vegetables. One of the major changes she made was how many calories the school cooks were able to give the kids. The new requirements are as follows: up to 650 for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, 700 for sixth through eighth graders and 850 for high scholars. These numbers are consistent with the Mayo Clinic’s recommendations ( Kuczynski-Brown). The main goal of cutting calories and taking away junk food, was to insure that kids are getting served a healthy lunch. At each lunch, schools must still provide a cup of fruit, a cup of vegetables, two servings of grains, two ounces of dairy, and a cup of fluid milk, so that students can get their needed vitamins and nutrients (Anonymous) . They are also wanting more local farmers to be involved, and give more of the food they grow to the school. At the high school I went to, we built a green house, and planted a garden to give us some local grown food. It was part of our Ag Science class. More and more schools are starting to do the same thing. The stats of overweight kids is really high. The guidelines are as follows:
“Our Schools need to start teaching kids how to be healthy.”- Unknown. School lunches have created a chronic problem in a school setting, and since it hasn't been fixed, 6-11 year olds have had a 17% increased chance of becoming obese (Centers for Disease control and Prevention). Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where
How many obese children have you seen today? Obesity is one of the largest health problems Americans are currently facing. It can lead to many baleful complications, including heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, cancer, mobility issues, high blood pressure, bullying, and lack of self-esteem. According to the CDC, about 17% of children and adolescents aged 2-19 are obese, and 30% are overweight. In adults, around 70% are overweight and 30% are obese. Nevertheless, our nation’s public schools are continuously promoting virulent foods through its lunch programs and on-campus advertisements. Although I understand that unhealthy food is cheaper and tastier, we must remember that those foods are causing our nation’s children to become obese. Factors such as cheap unhealthy foods in school lunches, junk food ads in schools, and teachers eating pernicious foods in class are causing more and more children to make the easy choice, the unhealthy choice. Obesity is a growing epidemic in the U.S, one that we need to promptly eradicate.
All school provide lunch for their students and some even provide breakfast. One of the points “The Crucial Role of Recess in School” makes, is that when recess is before lunch the children tend to eat more. This makes less waste of food and money for the school.
“More than a third of the county's children are overweight or obese.”(Gustin, 1). As shocking as this is, it's true. One of the big reasons that children and teens are overweight is because of the foods that they eat. They are fed these fattening and unhealthy foods by the school system. Their futures can be changed if we change our choices. Having more nutritious lunches can have a positive impact on the health of American teens.
To solve this problem, we need the cafeteria to be open more hours. If it is because of the need of workers in those other times, it is a big change that even students won't mind to work in the cafeteria to have it open for longer hours. Another idea would be to have longer hours open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even if it is not open for the whole day, longer hours might allow more comfort ability for everyone. We know that with out food, one cannot concentrate in their studies, nor perform their work well.

However, in the beginning, selling excess agricultural goods was more important than building a healthy, well-balanced meal for students. Unfortunately, many children coming from poorer families could not afford well-balanced school lunches, so in order to compensate, the School Lunch Program changed its focus to help these students. This program, however, decreased schools’ lunch budgets, and schools had a hard time keeping up with the amount of free meals they had to provide, so they came up with some extra ways to increase revenue. However, in a small town in Massachusetts, one chef makes a difference in the health of the school lunch students eat each day, and proves that hiring a trained chef to cook real, healthy meals can increase profit. The bell rings… Hundreds of kids rush to lunch to try and get their food as quick as they can. Many students rush to lunch because they want and need to eat but there is some things that frustrate students. If juniors and seniors had off campus lunch, it might relieve the overcrowding and the shortage of food. Students should have off campus lunch because their will be better quality of food other than the cafeterias, also the quantity of the food, and the logistics of the cafeteria. The quality of the food is very poor. It tastes fake. The amount of food the students get on their tray, without buying extra, is the amount that would be fed to a five year old. Not everyone can eat in the limited amount of time allowed to eat and there is not enough space for everyone to sit, and the cafeteria is really loud with the amount of students required to be in there at one time. These are some of the reasons that an off campus lunch could be beneficial to students.
