School work has always been a big deal in a student’s life. There’s two options do it or take a zero. Nowadays parents are seeing what happens when there are multiple assignments given not only that, but having exams to worry about as well, sometimes it’s the parent’s expectations that effect a student’s being. The pressure of students trying to get good grades has become a huge factor where it sometimes leads to serious problems. College has always been an important topic in my family, although my parents never had the chance to finish high school, my mother refused to see her children walk that same path. All my life I’ve seen how hard my mother has worked in order to keep food on our plate and a roof over our heads. She is the reason I …show more content…
Homework has increased over the years where students have up to stacks of assignments due. There were multiple times in high school where I had to take up all-nighters only to be able to complete them all. It’s much more difficult now to complete homework due to the fact that some students, including myself, not only have to worry about going to school, but also have jobs, competition/games, practices after school or trying to be involved in organizations to worry about as well. I’m not saying those reasons are excuses to not complete the work, but only pointing out that it takes double to the amount of work to complete them all and still have time to study for other subject that need attention. Having late night assignments can cause lack of sleep, which leads to dazing off in class and missing more important information for that subject leaving the students behind, I know this because there was a point where I was in that similar situation. I missed a couple of practices because I knew my education was much more important than my sport, stayed after school and did the best I could to be back on track. Not every student gets the same results that I did, some have so much on their plate to the points where dropping out seemed like the best outcome, I know some people that
79% of American middle school and high school students take part regularly in at least one after-school extracurricular activity. Many students participate in sports that can take up to 4 hours of their time, daily. Homework takes time to do after school and extracurriculars. If a student goes to school at 9:00 and gets out at 4:00, then goes to an after-school activity from 4:00 to 6:00, they will come home and have dinner from about 6:30 to 7:15, which means that they will probably start homework at around 7:30. This means that high school students will be up until about 11:00 finishing their homework, that’s without factoring in how much time the students will waste.
There have been countless times in my life where I have struggled to stay focused on a task ahead of me. I always plan out my work time ahead in order for me to complete a task, but every time I find that I have to revise my plan every day closer to the deadline. The little work that I should have done each day turns into a tremendous amount of work before the due date. Occupying myself with other things that keep me entertained, only brings me a lot of distress at the end. As I continue to torture myself , this bad habit of mine continous to dwell inside of me. One could say that there may be many implied meanings to this concept, but nevertheless, this force that messes with me everyday is considered to be procrastination.
After high school majority of parents want their children to go to college, graduate, have a promising career and start a family and this is the American dream. Of course going to college will earn you a career and make you financial stable with certain jobs. To earn all those things you need to work even harder to achieve them. Going through four to eight years of college is exhausting and time consuming. There are a lot of stages you go through during college starting from high school. For me I can say that it has been a long journey but it is a well worth journey because of the reward I will receive in the end. In college financial aid, teachers, assignments, and classrooms are different from high school in a major way.
When in the course of life events, their comes a time in a student’s life where he/she can no longer manage all their homework assignments given to them by their teacher. As a student gets older they begin to have a harder time in concentrating in their school needs. This becomes worse if one is involved in any academic or athletic programs after or before school.
Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that is it stupid.” Sir Ken Robinson stated that schools are destroying children 's creativity with their curriculum, there are many facts that support this idea. Students are required to think a specific way, prepare the way teachers want them to be prepared. Students also have their own opinion, because they are not afraid to be wrong, and need a way to move forward.
I developed my own influences to attend college that were positive and negative. My biggest internal push towards attending college was to make my parents proud. My parents are people who have been through so much in order to watch me succeed and I want to make all their effort worthwhile
One of the reasons homework should be banned is because of the unnecessary stress and strain it creates for students. Many students are left pulling their hair out at homework time. Students struggle with homework for different reasons. Some of which are because they do not understand the assigned homework, or they are not being challenged, and quite possibly because they have hit their daily threshold for learning and have no more to give. Furthermore, students who struggle academically will likely require extra assistance to do their homework. Students are therefore tasked with finding a qualified person to assist them with homework. Students are not only under the stress of homework, but now they are under additional stress to find a qualified person that can assist them. Unfortunately, some students may not be able to obtain the help they need with their homework. Consequently and to no fault of their own their grades may be affected inaccurat...
“College accepts students who are well rounded.” This is what my middle teacher told my entire class during our last day of school of my eight grade year. He then went on in saying “You’re going to be entering high school in a couple months. These are the years colleges will be looking at the most.” This speech that he made impacted me greatly. Since I was little my parents has stressed the importance of attending a college or university when I get order. One of the reasons being is that both of my parents did graduate college. They would always tell me about the jobs that they could not apply for because these jobs required a degree.
Certainly, school is a student’s very first job. As such, a student’s main focus must be on homework, tests, standardized tests, college, and eventually, employment. Ultimately, one is expected to become a successful student, by putting forth their best effort. Surely, it stands to reason that the...
Imagine yourself on a Friday and your just sitting in your desk staring at the clock waiting for the bell to ring, well Cris lived it. Cris has plans for the weekend today he's going to a friends house and tomorrow he is going to the mall and as a early Christmas present his parents gave him two hundred dollars to spend at the mall, he just cant talk for the weekend and then he heard this “The homework for the week will be a 5-10 thousand word essay on how The Happy Birthday song was made and it will count as a test grade.” In his mind he feels upset and realized his weekend is ruined. Cris cannot do anything because of this homework and if it wasn't graded he could cancel one of his plans and not stress out about it. Students get so much
Kralovec, author of The End of Homework argues that doing homework during high school has little or no effect on successful study skills of students in college. College students have only a few hours of class a week and lots of daytime hours in which to study. She says the college schedule is nowhere as grueling as in high school. In addition, the average adult does not return home from the office with three or more hours of work to complete (Kralovec). When "busy work" assignments are given carelessly and frequently, it causes students to lose interest in the subject. Negative results can also occur when a student is not able to complete his or her homework. Many times they will resort to copying homework, having others do their assignments, or cheating on tests. Bad habits such as these are likely to follow kids through their lives and have an effect on their moral judgment. With no consequences to these actions students will almost always take the easy way out when it comes to homework
Homework helps students learn essential life skills such as self-discipline, independence, and perseverance; however, according to Alfie Kohn, “no study has ever confirmed the widely accepted assumption”. In modern schooling, all grade levels are given substantial amounts of homework, which causes a multitude of problems regarding physical and emotional health, along with, potential family issues and no leisure time. Therefor, there should be less classes or class time should be extended in order to give students an adequate amount of time to finish assignments in school, rather than at home. After all, what is the point of having a teacher if the student has to learn at home rather than being taught at school? This does nothing but compound
Being a teenager isn’t easy. You have a lot of things on your mind, a lot of things to worry about, a lot of things to carry and when I mean carry, I mean both physically and mentally. During the 17 years of my life that I have lived so far, I believe that I have never carried this much before. Part of it I think is because it’s senior year. Actually I think that 's the biggest reason why I feel so much pressure on my shoulders. I’m pretty sure that everyone can agree on this, especially if you’ve been through it before. I’m not talking to the adults of course because I know your lives are difficult and what not, but I’m mostly talking to the teens who are currently going through the same stage of life that I’m in right now. Now I’m not saying my life is difficult in any means because I know that I
In today’s time homework is something that most schools find necessary to pile onto their students,
Many don’t realize that the road to success isn’t so much a road as it is a winding,
