Too Much Stress To Affect Time is an important thing to have when you’re young, yet there seems to be less of it the more you need. While you’re young people say to live life, make memories, and enjoy yourself. At the same time they are making you go to school, figure out what you want to be in life, and learn responsibility. Students have way too many things in life that they have to try to manage, which is why homework is a such a bad thing adding on more stress to the student to get everything done. I believe that schools are adding way too much stress to students with the amount of homework they give students, with how long the school days are. In today’s time homework is something that most schools find necessary to pile onto their students, …show more content…
As said in an article “ More homework makes parents put their own agendas on hold even as they often struggle to help their children cope with homework assignments. “ (Kralovec and Buell par. 6) Families need time to teach their children the ways of life, and their traditions. Parents want their children to learn to how to be successful and respectful but the time they have to do so is being shortened due to the amount of time children now have to spend on homework. Homework also cause arguments between parents and the students, “. According to a 1998 survey by Public Agenda, nearly 50 percent of parents reported having a serious argument with their children over homework..” (Kralovec and Buell par. 6) homework should not be causing arguments between parents and students it should bring students and parents together by having them help each other and being able to talk about what they learned with each …show more content…
2) which in my opinion is times that students could be making the memories that they could one day look back on to say they actually enjoyed being in school. ALso with the school day already being 6 and a half hours a day times the five days a week you have to go that takes away an additional thirty-two and a half hours away from a student 's week. There should be better results if homework is deemed so important while, "Kids who do 60 to 90 minutes of homework in middle school and over two hours in high school actually do worse than average in standardized tests.” ( Hartman par. 13) These reasons are why homework is not needed rather than wanted to be given by teachers and
student, I know how homework feels, especially in middle and high school. Teachers may think
"I didn’t feel [stressed] until I was in my 30’s. It hurts my feelings that my daughter feels that way at eleven" (Ratnesar 313). This statement describes the intense issue facing the American Education System today. More and more students are spending a lot of out of school time on enormous amounts of homework. The overabundance of homework is putting pressure on the students, along with their parents. Our nation has steadily focused on after school studying to the point of possible exhaustion. In this paper, I will attempt to explain how educators are relying on homework as the major form of education, and how the amounts are too demanding on the students.
When you think about school one of the first things that pops into people’s mind is homework. Basically if you have asked your parents or your grandparents they would say that they remember the homework load. Now we all know that homework can be beneficial but also can be very unhealthy with all of the stress that it causes. Over the years the homework load has increased because of the fact that schools think that they need to try to keep up with other countries in academics. And will doing all of this homework now be all for nothing later? The homework load has increased these past couple of years and it is causing a lot of stress on kids and overall is not helping their academics in the long run.
Many people often say that students, teachers, and parents, think homework should be banned, but multiple people disagree. This heated topic has been debated for many years. Some parents and teachers think students have too much. However, some believe their students receive too little. Few schools already have banned homework, but the majority of schools don’t. Some people agree with having ten minutes multiplied by the grade level of the student. As experts continue adding additional facts about homework, it is clear that homework can help students in different ways.
A study in 2002 shows that homework causes kids moods to increased anxiety, depression, anger, and other mood disturbances among students. (Coulson)Kids have a seven hour day of school and then on top of that teachers are piling up a minimum of one thirty minutes worth of homework in each class. Kids get stressed out when they realize that they can't do anything fun in the evening which is suppose to be there fre. Homework causes kids to increases in stress and sleep deprivation. In time because they have to stay at home and finish their homework April, a researcher at Stanford University found that too much homework negatively affects kids by increasing stress and sleep deprivation and generally leaving less time for family, friends, and activities. (Graham)Kids don’t get enough sleep and get even more stressed out which causes them to do worse in school.Homework increases family and there conflict.Homework increases family conflict. And the more parents help with children’s homework, the more tension children experience.(Coulson)Homework causes more family conflict which tears families
In conclusion, homework is a waste of time. Time that can be better spent is with family and having fun participating in extracurricular activities. Eliminating homework allows students the reward of free time and the invaluable time spent with family. Homework creates unnecessary stress and strain for parents and students alike. Also, homework allows teachers to pawn off their own teaching responsibilities to students and parents with hours of homework. Homework is not beneficial and it should be banned for students Kindergarten thru 8th grade.
Many parents are also bothered over the force of homework on the connection between their kids and teens.... ... middle of paper ... ... Think about how much homework we’ve done since we were in kindergarten, how many times we’ve stayed up and woke up half-awake, how many times we’ve kept others awake, and how much paper we’ve wasted. If you think that is a lot, think of all of the students around the world doing the same.
Many students do not enjoy their homework even if it is only studying. These students would not be able to have any free time because there's homework. There should not be homework because classwork is already enough work, it takes time away from other activities, and it does not let kids have independent thinking, so they won’t be able to be hard workers.
Believe me when I tell you nothing is worse than coming home from a seven hour day at school then to a long hard practice and then doing more than four hours of homework each night. What a time to be alive they always say but not for teenagers who are consistently struggling over the hours of homework they are assigned each night. An average student probably takes at least one or two APs a year and above average student usually takes three or four. Each student is assigned to six classes sometimes even seven and then some students are assigned a zero period. From there I am telling you that students stay up as late as they possibly can until they know their homework is complete, I myself have expierenced many.
Although homework may seem like drudgery, the hard work that is put into homework may pay off in the long run. In the article, “Does homework really work for students?” Jacqueline Carey, the mother of seventh grade student Micah Carey, stated that “homework gives [students] a good foundation for when they move on further in school” (Johnson). Not only that but according to Donyall Dickey, principle at Murray Hill Middle School, “if students do not acquire things in class, they will acquire them through homework” (Johnson). As we can see homework helps and prepares us for higher grade levels while in primary school that can possibly prepare us for college. It also helps us to remember the materials that were taught in class. Another reason homework can be beneficial is the fact that it can prepare us for tests and the dreadful pop-quiz that a teacher may randomly give us. This fact was proven, according to a 2006 study by Harris Cooper, director of Duke University’s Program in education, in the article “Homework or Not? That is the (Research) Question”. The studies instituted that “students who had homework performed better on class tests compared to those who did not” (DeNisco). Another compelling thing about homework, are the qualities a skills th...
Many of the teachers give way too much homework, and do not realize that student have more homework other than theirs. They might have other classes such as Math, Science, or Social studies homework, and to top it off, they get more homework such as English. Because of this, the children do not have free time to themselves or for their interests and hobbies. To take this a step further, much of their homework is unnecessary work that has already been understood in class or does not need more practice. Many believe that homework can make a student brighter or help them get better grades in school. This is partially true, but too much can cause the productivity, performance, and comprehension of the student to lower drastically rather than raising
Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
I remember being a kid and wanting to get off school go home and relax, only to find out at the end of the day that my teacher was assigning two hours’ worth of homework after being in school for eight! First of all I felt completely devastated, second I felt very upset. I always thought it was completely unfair to have homework, I mean when will you get to be a kid right? Now as a parent I absolutely despise it when my daughter comes home with homework from school. Sometimes I will have made plans to go and have some mother daughter bonding time only to have my child come home with a packet due the next day. Bedtime in my household is 8:30pm, school lets out at around 3:30 pm, one hour of driving in traffic to get home, homework takes around 2hours to finish, so that puts us at 6:30pm for dinner time which usually takes another hour and a half leaving
Kids need more time to be kids and be more around family instead or having to do homework all of the time. Most kids spend about 2-3 hours doing homework and not with family or friends according to, Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids' Health? Students do tons of homework that it is causing most parents to say that they only get to see their children during dinner time or they might not even be able to go to dinner because they just want to be done with homework. As Kamala Nair said to prove that parents mostly see their child during dinner time or not at all is in t To add on, because these kids are spending much time on homework, it is causing them to go to bed late, when you go to bed late but wake up early in the morning you are probably going to be tired, and when you are tired, it is most likely going to be hard to concentrate which can lead to bad grades. In this case too much homework can actually cause bad grades and, not help your children witht the things you may not know.
In the article “How Much Homework is Too Much” states “that earlier this year, a Manhattan public school abolished homework entirely, blaming it for students ‘frustration and exhaustion’ and lack for other activities and family time.” they state. Many kids are getting frustrated when doing homework and don't get enough family time and not get enough time to be kid. You should let kids be kids and play games instead of being inside all day doing homework and should get to play outside with friends and do other fun things. Obviously, kids have other important things to do than
