Kids need more time to be kids and be more around family instead or having to do homework all of the time. Most kids spend about 2-3 hours doing homework and not with family or friends according to, Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids' Health? 79% of American middle school and high school students take part regularly in at least one after-school extracurricular activity. Many students participate in sports that can take up to 4 hours of their time, daily. Homework takes time to do after school and extracurriculars. If a student goes to school at 9:00 and gets out at 4:00, then goes to an after-school activity from 4:00 to 6:00, they will come home and have dinner from about 6:30 to 7:15, which means that they will probably start homework at around 7:30. This means that high school students will be up until about 11:00 finishing their homework, that’s without factoring in how much time the students will waste.
A article by Annie Murphy Paul called The ´´Trouble With Homework´´ talks about how homework is like a double shift for High School, Middle School, or College School students as their first shift is 7-9 hours in school per day. The trouble with homework is that students have other things to do after school like sports, hobbies, or a job that they have to attend to after school. Some students also want to just relax after school and have a good time with friends or family and homework is affecting them because they always worry about it and can't do things they want to because they have to finish it. One mother said ´´School for [my son] is work´´ as she is referring that when her son comes home he has to work another 1-5 on his homework and

Healthline.com has said that “Students in high achieving neighborhoods who spend too much time on homework have more health problems, stress, and alienation from society.” Being sick of school is one thing, but when school is making you sick because of the homework you have now is bad. Elementary kids having physical problems just from homework can eventually lead to other possible problems down the road. These problems include substance abuse, becoming a high school dropout, and possibly death by suicide. So why risk a student’s life for a few homework
Some people would argue that homework should not stay in schools because it decreases the amount of family time. They say that when a child is doing homework, it decreases family time because that child is not involved in the family but the homework (“Teachers…”). This theory has been proven wrong; in fact homework actually increases family time. Family time increases by the encounter the parents and children have while doing homework. It brings them together by how the children ask for help on their homework (5). The child will ask their parent or siblings to help them, and that will spark the family time. The parents will try to help and will not stop till their child understand how to do it. While helping with their child’s homework the parents can ask how their day went, and how that certain class was. Engaging in conversation always increases family time. Not only will they get to talk to their children, the parents will be informed of their child’s studies and how good or bad they are doing in school. Which proves that homework increases family time.
Todays students are busier than they have ever been in American history. Homework is a large contributor to this. The average student in America has approximately four hours of homework each night. If students start homework right when they get home from school, that gives them free time starting at 7:00 PM. The majority of students also have jobs. So. between school, work, homework, and practice, that leaves them virtually no time to be able to hang out with friends or to participate in family activities.
When you think about school one of the first things that pops into people’s mind is homework. Basically if you have asked your parents or your grandparents they would say that they remember the homework load. Now we all know that homework can be beneficial but also can be very unhealthy with all of the stress that it causes. Over the years the homework load has increased because of the fact that schools think that they need to try to keep up with other countries in academics. And will doing all of this homework now be all for nothing later? The homework load has increased these past couple of years and it is causing a lot of stress on kids and overall is not helping their academics in the long run.
Many parents are also bothered over the force of homework on the connection between their kids and teens.... ... middle of paper ... ... Think about how much homework we’ve done since we were in kindergarten, how many times we’ve stayed up and woke up half-awake, how many times we’ve kept others awake, and how much paper we’ve wasted. If you think that is a lot, think of all of the students around the world doing the same.
Parents are often expected to help their children with their homework. Even though most of them do not understand, have the necessary resources, or the time to help. This creates additional stress for the parents and the child. Homework is stressor for teachers as well. Teachers have to create lesson plans, tests, class assignments, and meet state standards. Making sure that each child completes and turn in their homework is an unnecessary
As Kelly Wallace mentions in her article “Kids Have Three Times Too Much Homework, Study Finds; What’s the Cost?" homework is a reason for damaging students. homework causes a lot of stress, and affects physical health such as ulcers, migraines, lack of sleep, and weight loss. The writer thinks too much homework is actually harmful to students. Additionally, a majority of high school students think excessive homework is not beneficial to their academic achievement or GPA, and there is some evidence that it’s harmful to other aspects such as school attitude, grades, self-confidence, social skills, and quality of life.
Is homework beneficial or harmful to students? Is so much homework given to students that it interferes with other interests that students enjoy? Does homework intervene with family time? Homework is school work that is assigned to be done outside of the class room. Though homework is often seen as a waste of time, it can also be seen as a way to help students to develop important skills that can be used throughout their life and to be successful when they decide to join the workforce.
A study published in the Journal of Experimental Education states that: “56% of the students in the study cited homework as a primary stressor in their lives. (Source B)” Homework brings about the worry of looming due
In today’s world, education is more important than ever, and with education comes homework. However, many teachers give too much homework, which makes students extremely stressed. In addition, some are into sports or after school activities, and some have part time jobs they have to work at, which adds additional stress to the already overworked students. Mounds of homework can cause students to be under so much stress that it affects them mentally, physically, and emotionally. Stress can make students sick with colds, stomach aches, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, and/or anxiety disorders (Menninger and Dugan).
Robert Marzono, a well-known educational researcher, states that homework is and could be detrimental to kids mental health. Union leader, Mary Bousted a said, “with homework children are unhappy and anxious” to get a good grade. Homework can cause confusion, frustration and stress to many children, as Robert Marzono and Mary Bousted are saying, when not understanding the concept of the work their doing. Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
