In this year so far, there has been 40 people that have died in collisions where they were not buckled up, as well as 347 people over the last five years in Provincial Ontario alone (@citynews.). So this is becoming a growing problem. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more well known as the NHTSA has used many different ways of getting their message out about the dangers of not wearing a seat belt. The NHTSA has used all forms of social media, but the one of the most influential forms of getting their message out though has been their Public Service Announcements or PSA for short, on the television the NHTSA have a PSA called “Second Chance”. The Click it or Ticket PSA “Second Chance” was created to appeal to the driver’s …show more content…
The NHTSA display their arrangement in the form of rewinding back to the beginning of the commercial after the accident to the beginning and this time the guy puts on his seat belt. This is used to show how life is not a video game, there are no respawns and if people make the decision to not wear a seat belt then nobody can rewind and decide to then put the seat belt on. When the boyfriend wasn’t buckled up him and his girlfriend hit a car in the side and he was flung out the windshield with his girlfriend having to witness the whole thing. This goes to show how if the boyfriend does wear his seat belt his girlfriend will not have to witness him being slung from the car and most likely died as a result of the accident. This is a form of Arrangement in the “Second Chance” PSA that effects a person’s …show more content…
The tension is shown by how the driver should have been buckled up and how because he wasn’t he was slung from the car. This has tension involved because of how if the driver would have just buckled the seat belt then the driver would have not been ejected from the car. The tension is shown because the boyfriend in the PSA was not following the rules as he did not buckle up. Rules are standards that are set to protect all people and when people refuse to follow them, that is when somebody gets hurt that is what happened in this PSA. It also showed tension because the girlfriend had to watch as her boyfriend as he was being slung out the windshield and to the ground. This would definitely drive the point home as what if that were someone you knew, then the person would be dead because they didn’t follow the rules and buckle up. This is a form of Characterization in the “Second Chance” PSA that effects a person’s
In North Carolina, the “Click It or Ticket” program was put into place in 1993 by former Governor Jim Hunt to increase safety belt and child safety use rates through stepped up enforcement of the state’s safety belt law. According to North Carolina’s safety belt law all drivers and front seat passengers over the age of 16 are required to wear safety belts. Children less than age 16 are covered under the North Carolina Child Restraint Law. This law requires that children must be buckled up no matter where they are seated in the vehicle. Violators of the safety belt law are issued tickets and are subject to a fine of $25 plus $50 court costs. These violations have been defined as “infractions” and are not entered on driving records. In addition to this, effective January 1, 2005, any child less than 8 years old or 80 pounds in weight must ride in a booster seat. Violations of this law will result in a $25 fine plus court costs as well as having 2 points placed against driver’s license. However, drivers cited for this violation of this law for a 5,6, or 7 year old will be able to have the charges dismissed if they present proof to the court that they have acquired an appropriate restraint for that child. Statistics have been gathered on safety belt use since this program began and has shown that seat belt use has increased from 65 percent to 84 percent. It has also shown that fatal and serious injuries in North Carolina have been cut by 14 percent. Resulting in a savings of at least $135 million in health care related costs. Other positive ef...
An enormous division currently exists between the people who believe that automobile safety should be an option and those that feel it must be a requirement. The federal government feels the morally obligated to create the safest driving environment possible. On the other end of the spectrum, opinions exist that the average driver has ability to make the choice of safety on their own. Editorials, political assemblies, debates, and conversations have arrived on the concept of click it or ticket. This idea refers to ticketing any motor vehicle driver and passenger that is not fastened by a seat belt. Arguments have been made for both sides, and have been reviewed in multiple states.
There are approximately 5,400 deaths per year that are linked to distracted driving, and thousands more were injured. (U.S. Department of Labor). Those fatalities are our neighbors, close friends, and even family. How can we prevent this from being so prominent? How can we make the roads a safe place to be again? These questions have many different answers, but many prove to be un-effective. I believe that the best and only way to resolve this issue is to implement tougher laws on cell-phone use in vehicles, and educate our youth to the best of our abilities on the dangers of distracted driving.
Life on the Road It’s fair to say that life on the road is something most people do not desire, as a way to live out their days; but a young man named Chris McCandless believed it was necessary to avoid the venomous grips of society. McCandless goes as far as to venture out to the rest of the United States and even crossing borders to achieve his true destination, Alaska. He shows us living such a life can hold many unique and wonderful experiences.
In a viral media Public Service Announcement released ......... called “Distracted Driving,” AT&T, a billion dollar phone company, accentuates the dangers of texting while driving and what it can result in. This PSA was originally aired on their very own itcanwait website. However, the video was shared on youtube to target the young audience that logs on everyday. To accomplish the goal of stopping people from multitasking with their cellular device behind the wheel, AT&T has a young woman talking about how her life changed within a matter of seconds because of a distracted driver. This emotional connection makes the audience think how much danger they are putting not only their lives in, but also innocent lives as well.
“After being examined at the ER, we continued on to the wedding reception. Where, less than 3 hour after this accident, Rachel, Jeff, Sarah, and Haley were able to dance and have a great time! If they had not been wearing their seat belts, they could have been dead. So Please Buckle Up your Seat Belts every time you get in the car!” (www.geocities.com/gargn6/seatbelts.html?200522).
How do you feel when you are told what you will or will not do? You may be told that it is for your own good, but who has the right to decide what is or is not good for you? After all who knows you better than you do? This brings me to the topic of my discussion. Even though there are some statistics that may show a lower rate of injury or death if you wear a seat belt when in an automobile accident, I do not feel that the government has the right to make wearing a seat belt mandatory for adults because by making seat belts mandatory it takes away from our right to freedom of choice, and wearing a seat belt does not eliminate the risk of injury or death as people have been injured and/or killed due to wearing a seat belt
Using seat belt when driving can help us to prevent death when an accident occurs.
Whether it is a text massage from love one or a bite of a sandwich, it is not so important than a human life. Distracted driving is an epidemic, so more tough laws should be implemented. The law for distracted driving should be tough just like a driving under influence. Distracting driving is a killer on the road, it should be banned because, it is the number one killer of the U.S. teenager in the road, not only the teenager in the road, but also cause a collision which is often fatal, and some incident were driver or one who involve on an accident became disable. Distraction is an involvement of driver where his or hers eye or mind are engage and performing on other things rather than driving, such as while talking on
Driving. While I haven’t had the greatest experiences with driving related problems; I’ve run into some pretty funny ones. When I was about four years old my family was over at my grandpa’s putting in a well for him. I of course was sitting in the unattended van on the top of the hill in the back seat. While many people would think that it was completely safe and there’s nothing to worry about they are wrong. You see I was a clever little toddler and could at that time unbuckle herself and climb over the center console right into the front seat. Also being the genius child that I was I managed to switch the car from park to neutral and begin to roll down the hill. Now I don 't remember my mom and the other adults running towards the van to
The team put on an event called “Tie One On for Safety” where drivers tie on a ribbon onto to their car to encourage themselves to be responsible for the choices that they are making whenever dealing with this situations. She basically choose to put on this event around holiday season only because people tend to get excessively excited about seeing who they want to see and having the free time to throw parties they want that they may not be considerate about how safe their decisions are. Around the nighttime, the Honolulu Police officers would set out road blockers to prevent not only the safety on the road, but to monitor the way people drive. Anyone can state that they are a safe driver when in reality anything unexpected can happen in one blink of an
Car accidents are the leading cause of death for people under the age of 35. Wearing a seat belt can prevent death in about half of these accidents. Did you know that every 15 seconds someone is injured in an automobile accident if they are not buckled up, or that every 13 minutes someone is killed in a crash. Failure to wear a seat belt contributes to more fatalities than any other single traffic safety related behavior. According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration seatbelts saved nearly 12,000 lives in the United States in the year 2000. The NHTSA estimates that more than 9,000 U.S. car accident fatalities in 2000 would have been avoided if the victims had been wearing seatbelts. Sixty three percent of the people killed in accidents were not wearing seat belts. The NHTSA a...
There is a massive amount of car accidents that occur every day, that consequently become fatal. In many cases, the driver and the passengers do not have on a seat belt to prevent them from being thrown out of the car or colliding with another car, causing them to be thrown against the dashboard or some other tragic accident. Some people may think, “Wearing a seatbelt isn’t cool”, “I’m only going down the street” or sometimes just irresponsibly forget to put on their seatbelt when they are inside of a vehicle. You may think that wearing a seatbelt is not trendy and you are only making a quick trip going down the street to the corner store, however, you cannot control others actions on the road anything can happen in the blink of an eye.
Did you ever have those days where you are on the road rushing to get somewhere, but the speed limits 25 mile per hour? Isn’t that a pain?! Most people in this world have less patience, and there aren't really anymore slow Sunday drives down through the park. Imagine this scenario, a husband at work just received a phone call saying that his wife is in labor at a hospital about 30 minutes away. His job is near a grammar school with roads that have speed limits of 25 miles per hour.
Have you ever witnessed a car accident? How do think those involved feel? If you knew, then you would know that you would anything in your will to prevent this tragedy. Precautions have been made to protect passengers, such as seat belts. Seatbelt’s were made mandatory to be worn at all times by drives and their passengers to minimize the injuries of being in a car accident.
