The Dangers of Distracted Driving
There are approximately 5,400 deaths per year that are linked to distracted driving, and thousands more were injured. (U.S. Department of Labor). Those fatalities are our neighbors, close friends, and even family. How can we prevent this from being so prominent? How can we make the roads a safe place to be again? These questions have many different answers, but many prove to be un-effective. I believe that the best and only way to resolve this issue is to implement tougher laws on cell-phone use in vehicles, and educate our youth to the best of our abilities on the dangers of distracted driving.
Distracted driving includes not only texting and calling, but also eating, navigation, and conversing with passengers. (Idaho Transportation Department). This is a serious problem, and danger to not only ourselves, but those around us. On any given day between when the

Implementing stronger laws is an action step; it is not passive. The other ways were mostly passive, and not aggressive enough. This makes it so that there is a consequence even if they did not get in a wreck. The law must work harder to look down on this, and see it as the threat it really is. (U.S. Department of Labor). Another great way to combat distracted driving is educating our children and students better on the issue of distracted driving. (Idaho Transportation Department). Assemblies should be held, and I believe that students should have to take a test on distracted driving. In order to pass the class, they should have to create a presentation on the subject, and sign a pledge. This is a big issue, and it needs to be handled, and dealt with as such.
