Driving. While I haven’t had the greatest experiences with driving related problems; I’ve run into some pretty funny ones. When I was about four years old my family was over at my grandpa’s putting in a well for him. I of course was sitting in the unattended van on the top of the hill in the back seat. While many people would think that it was completely safe and there’s nothing to worry about they are wrong. You see I was a clever little toddler and could at that time unbuckle herself and climb over the center console right into the front seat. Also being the genius child that I was I managed to switch the car from park to neutral and begin to roll down the hill. Now I don 't remember my mom and the other adults running towards the van to …show more content…
In Wyoming especially kids have to drive long distances to get to college on a regular basis. For example, if I were to go to the University of Wyoming I would have to drive at least five hours to get from my house to the college. That would be every weekend or so that is be driving alone on that commute. That is an outrageous amount of being alone driving. The years of practice with your parents and alone at home from age sixteen to twenty one would be extremely beneficial to these college students. With the proper instruction and practice in those years you could go far and become a great driver. Furthermore, the driving age is perfect as it is for the necessary practice for young adults on the way to …show more content…
We do have an increase in the number of vehicle accidents, but it can always get better. If we leave it the way it is then these young adults get the practice they deserve. Long highways and busy interstates are prime road for accidents to happen, but if we leave the limit the way it is we won 't see more accidents. If anything we will see a decrease in accidents. From my previous experiences with driving I personally feel that more driving time and practice could benefit everyone. Especially when in the means and terms of a safer environment for everyone. If we were to change the age to eighteen or twenty one then we could potentially see an increase in accidents. If the debate is over whether the percent of accidents would go down or up we have to keep it the same to see a decrease or break even. Furthermore, we need to keep the legal driving age at sixteen to see an sort of improvement and
There are approximately 5,400 deaths per year that are linked to distracted driving, and thousands more were injured. (U.S. Department of Labor). Those fatalities are our neighbors, close friends, and even family. How can we prevent this from being so prominent? How can we make the roads a safe place to be again? These questions have many different answers, but many prove to be un-effective. I believe that the best and only way to resolve this issue is to implement tougher laws on cell-phone use in vehicles, and educate our youth to the best of our abilities on the dangers of distracted driving.
In the state of Georgia, a point system helps to track drivers who are incompetent or have the bad habit of driving irresponsibly. For every violation of the traffic laws, a driver can receive points on their license. After 15 points in a 24-hour period, that driver's license can be suspended. If more serious problems occur in that period, which adds point on your license in Georgia, your license can be revoked or canceled. The rite of passage for 16-year-olds, driving. The question, is allowing them to drive the right thing? Many are coming to the conclusion that the driving age should be increased to decrease accidents on the road. This is not the case, because cars are necessary to some, not all teens are like this, and they can become better.
One reason the driving age should be 18 is less people driving. If their were less people driving their would be less traffic. If their was less traffic people wouldn’t be frustrated. Therefore less frustration means less accidents.
Engines roaring and cars flying down the highway recklessly, racing to the finish. This is a stereotyped outlook on teen drivers. This however, is not the case. Teens don’t drive to race down the road. They drive for freedom. They drive to get where they need to be on their own. The driving age should not be raised to 18 because it takes away their feeling of freedom, Denies the access to needed transportation, denies experience, It puts additional stress on parents, and they need to be learning the driving skill while they’re young.
More than 5,000 teenagers die while driving each year in the United States (Gregory). In my opinion this is due to three different, yet equally important factors. The first factor is that the teenage mind is yet to be fully developed, causing them to make irresponsible and sometimes reckless decisions. The second factor is that the experience of driving has evolved since the original driving age was established in the early 20th century. The third and final aspect to take into consideration would be that driving is the lowest minimum age of any adult restricted activity in the United States. Although, it can be one of the more harmful, not only to the perspective driver but his or her surroundings as well. Taking all three of these factors into account I believe the minimum driving age should be raised to 18 to decrease the accident rate amongst teenagers.
Teens and adults often debate over the legal driving age. Many statistics showed that teens mostly get into accident. Therefore, the legal driving age should be raised.
Many adults say teenage drivers lack maturity to drive. (Pros) One reason I believe the driving age should be changed is because seventy seven percent of males are more likely to kill someone when driving. That is one reason boys are considered "racer boys". (Minimum)Another reason I believe they should change the age for driving is because the person driving the car could be distracted by the other passengers. Also, the number of accidents will be reduced. Lastly, only forty four percent of teenagers would speak up and wouldn't be afraid to tell the
"16-year-olds have higher crash rates than drivers of any other age" (11 facts about teen driving). This is a current problem because it is raising the death rate and putting other people in danger. Another reason this is a current issue is because teenagers take for granted the power of freedom given to them. They do it every time they drink and drive or text while driving. They do not think of the consequences. Two main reasons the driving age should be raised is because they are mentally undeveloped and they make a lot of small errors that may lead to a bigger consequence. Some critics may argue that the driving age will only save lives temporarily, this is not correct because it is still saving a lot lives. So raising the driving age needs to happen.
Sixteen year olds have a higher crash rate than drivers of any other age. “ in 2011, teenagers accounted for 10 percent of motor vehicle crash deaths” (Teen Driving Statistics). For this purpose, Many states have begun to raise the age limit by imposing restrictions on sixteen years old drivers. For example, limiting the number of passengers they can carry while driving. “The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety released a report in May 2012 that showed that the risk of 16- or 17-year old drivers being killed in a crash increases with each additional teenage passenger in the vehicle. The risk increases 44 percent with one passenger; it doubles with two passengers, and quadruples with three or more passengers. The study analyzed crash data and the number of miles driven by 16- and 17-year olds” (Teen Driving Statistics). Another example, is that many people believe that teenage drivers have a race boy/girl mentality. This mean that when any teenager gets into a vehicle of any kind they get some type of thrilled or that the driving laws do not accommodate them in any way, shape, or form. They would go drag race ...
Many teens are interested in being able to drive at a younger age, but it is still unclear if they are able to handle it. If the legal driving age is lowered, are we endangering the lives of teen drivers, as well as the passengers with them? I believe most people want to drive as soon as they can. However, recently the government has been trying to pass laws that may change the current driving age of 16. There are positive and negative aspects to changing the laws that allow the driving age to stay at 16.There have been new bills being proposed that mite be passed. “The Minister for Urban Services has introduced a Bill (proposed law) into the Assembly. He wants to amend the Road Transport (Driver Licensing) Act 2000. The new Bill is called the Driving Age Amendment Bill. This Bill is intended to raise the age at which people can apply for a learner’s permit and driver’s license.” (Legislative Assembly). This bill will raise the driving age if it is passed but the aspects of what will happen should be considered before we change it. There are many different reasons why we should keep it at 16. First off it’s a good working system that we have followed for a long time. Another good reason that helps this concept is that the teenagers are still in school so it’s easier for them to take drivers training. If there are more drivers that ultimately mean that more people will be paying for insurance. There are also the reasons why we should change it from 16. Like for instances most 16 year olds aren’t responsible enough to drive. “The facts show that younger drivers (those between ages 16 and 25) receive more citations, are more likely to have their driving privilege suspended, and are responsible for more accidents than drivers in any other age group.” (Dr. Steven Evans). Another reason is that it’s a high cost own a car when they are making so little money.
How old is it to drive? Most would argue the legal driving age of sixteen seems appropriate for someone to begin taking the wheel, while others say that twenty-one is a more sufficient age. Even though raising or maintaining the driving age at sixteen contains both pros and cons, major facts need to come to consideration if the driving age ever increases. As a teenager driving, I believe that people wanting to raise the driving age do not realize the negative effect that that would cause. For instance, if the age increased, teenagers would lose independence and freedom, parents would have to sacrifice their time and freedom, and even though teenagers die in car crashes every year, it would not decrease the overall number of deaths per year.
Although I can drive on the wild road, it would be more beneficial to the world if driving age is changed from 16 years old to an older age. My concerns of the age group are the distractions as in technology, peers, and instincts. I consider that 16 to 19-year-olds should have at least a year's experience before qualifying for a full license to drive unsupervised. There will be mature people as well as fewer accidents if the legal age to drive would be raised to 20 years old.
Driving can be used as a weapon, or a gift, getting people to and from many places all the time. Since we have cars we have been able to go to places faster and cheaper. Driving has caused many issues and deaths but it's also one of the best and most helpful man made products, so, the question is, what age should one be able to drive? I believe that you should not be able to drive when you are sixteen years old.
Many accidents are caused because teenagers are unaware of driving risks and hazardous situations. One piece of evidence that shows that teenagers need driving experience appears in the following quote, “Teens are more likely than older drivers to underestimate dangerous situations or not be able to recognize hazardous situations,” ("Teen Drivers: Get the Facts"). Teenagers will not have enough driving experience if the driving age is lifted. If teenagers are allowed to drive at sixteen then they will be prepared to drive later on. The longer one waits to drive, the longer it takes for them to become prepared for the risks and hazards of
