Skateboarding's popularity has soared up throughout decades. People such as Tony Hawk and Shaun White have made skateboarding a rebellious attitude. But skateboarding can also be a easy way to get hurt! To keep safe while skateboarding follow these rules and tips. One always wear protective gear, because you can easily lose your balance and get hurt. Two helmets should always be worn when you are about to skateboard. Last but certainly not least you must always watch where you skate because more than half of skateboard injuries happen under the age of 15 years old. During the 1950’s when skateboarding first got it’s legs it was a very popular activity to take part in during vacations to ocean side tourist attractions, or as an activity after surfing. Yet, by 1965, skateboarding had diminished in popularity completely, therefore almost every skateboard manufacturer went out of business. . During this time the only people who even wanted to skateboard were surfers who needed something to ride to practice their surfing while the waves were flat. Due to the fact that there were no skateboards being made or sold, those who wanted to skate had to take it upon them-selves to manufacture their own boards. Using any kind of scrap they could find to build a usable board out of, such as metal scrap pieces or old planks. These determined surfers had to unscrew the trucks and wheels off of roller skates and attach them to the bottom of their boards. And because these kids were from very poor families for the most part, and next to non had jobs of their own, they had to resort to taking the trucks and wheels off the roller skates secretly in the stores. Although.., the clay wheels th...
Imagine being on the top of the world, on a bitter cold mountain, over top of an enormous crowd. Below where you stand, the lustrous lights are shining on a massive jump, that seems larger than the mountain itself, created for the professional snowboard competition. This gargantuan jump will decide whether you win or lose the competition. Becoming a professional snowboarder has been a dream to me ever since I first was beginning to snowboard. Being on top of the enormous slope and strapping into my bindings instantly made me relaxed and put a grin larger than the slope itself on my face. Everytime I glide down the face of the mountain I become focused and dialed in on my riding. When becoming a professional snowboarder as an occupation, I would
Sidewalks are different shapes and sizes, people tend to make their own decisions to which way they would want to go. Going through the motions on a sidewalk is similar as going through the motions of life. There are many turns that could get you to your final destination and turns that can also get you into places you would not feel so comfortable being. Staying on the right path and trying to get to where you need to go isn’t so hard but when you have other sidewalks with nice grass and big beautiful street lights that can be a very big distraction to the eye and that could cause problems in your life. Nice sidewalks sometimes don't always tend to continue a nice path so they can be very believing at first but when you make it to the end
A few winters ago, some friends invited my family and me to go snow skiing at Paoli Peaks, Indiana. I did not know how to snow ski, and I leaped at the thought of trying this new sport. On the first morning we entered the pro shop to rent all the gear and make decisions about whether or not to take lessons or go it alone. We decided to be adventurous and go it alone—no lessons. Kent and Celeste, the friends who invited us, knew how to ski and snowboard. He assured us that he could show us the basics, and we would be on our way down the slopes. All of us, after a few minutes learning how to wedge our skis started down the family trail. Although the family trail had smaller hills and appeared safe, to me it seemed way
These past few summers I have been spending a lot more time in the water, whether it be jet skiing in Vietnam or kayaking in the waters of Florida, I have enjoyed every minute of it all. I always like watching surfers out in the waves and because of how great they make it look, I want to give it a try. Hence the reason why it is on my bucket list. Prior to surfing, there are many things I will need to gain knowledge on such as the gear, dangers, precautions, and much more. In order for me to check it off my bucket list, I will need to procure all of this information. Surfing is not just all fun and games, it is a serious sport, and to really enjoy it, I have to make sure that I am doing it right.
If you live close to your workplace or travel frequently to a friend’s house that is only a short distance away, you have the option to take your vehicle, ride a bike, or walk. Wasting gas for a block or two is not always worth it, riding a bike is effort that most people do not want to deal with, and for many people walking is painful. That is why there are now scooters available. They are easy to use, rechargeable, and fun. As long as you have a desire to play and an ability to balance a little, you could be enjoying your time on a single wheel scooter and skateboards.
“Hopefully, kids realize you can do anything you want. Skateboarding can be that gateway.” - Ryan Sheckler. Sheckler meant that skateboarding is more than a sport, skateboarding is way of life and it can take people wherever they want to go. The culture of skateboarding has been taking over the world because anyone can do it no matter what their background, ethnicity, or body shape. This way of life is art form that is expressed through style and maneuvers on a piece of wood with wheels. Skateboarding has become one of the most popular extreme sports in the past few decades. In 2009 there was an estimated 9,281,500 skateboarders in the United States and that number continues to grow each year (“Who Are Skateboarders”). Why then are skateboarders
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.

Have you ever seen a skateboarder going down the street? You probably think he's a punk kid or he's rude. But you really don't know what what that individual had to go through to even be riding that board. It may look easy when you see him doing tricks effortlessly but it took him so long to learn those tricks.
This is no ordinary socks as it is waterproof! Meaning, you don’t have to worry so much as to trudging on the rain and soaking your precious feet in rain puddles. This pair of socks is an ultralight and ankle length sock which can help protect your feet better than any ordinary socks. Every fall high school seniors around the globe are in a state of panic. Of course you are no stranger to this process, you have dealt with this stress firsthand. What process is being described you may ask? The process of applying to college. Each year seniors scramble to submit applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendations to the schools of their choice. These documents are essential for nearly all students who want to advance to an institution of higher learning, but for many the paper trail does not end there. Seniors interested in a career in art, well specifically in visual art, need one more thing to obtain that sparkling acceptance letter. That missing link is a portfolio.

It's no surprise that this sport brings in five billion dollars a year. These people have talent, dedication, drive and the ability to push fear out the window and do what they love to do: Skate. Many people would argue that skateboarding is a destructive and vandalistic way of life, though many people don’t realize that it is one of the only lifestyles that does not discriminate against race, age, political views, the amount of money somebody makes, or the clothes somebody wears. Skateboarding is also positive, because ultimately it makes you more creative. Some places have metal clamps attached to ledges or rails, also known as “skate-stoppers” to stop skateboarders from grinding or sliding on the area. Though it is intended to stop skaters, it just makes them approach the ledge or rail in a different way so that they can use the skate-stoppers for
Since the beginning of time art has been a big part of culture and education. From indians paints stories on rock walls to Greek using are to create elaborate structures art has alway been a key role in many cultures. In today’s society the important of art is question. We want to big building with beautiful landscape, but we either take advantage of art or do not give it enough credit. Many people question whether classes such as art, drama, and theatre should still be part of the mandatory curriculum. In most schools you are required to take an art or drama class. In junior high school it is mandatory that you take an art class some time while you are attending junior high. In my opinion students all have different passions so it should not be mandatory, students should however be able to take those classes in high school, but unless you are getting ready to pursue such things in college they will not help you later on.
