Every fall high school seniors around the globe are in a state of panic. Of course you are no stranger to this process, you have dealt with this stress firsthand. What process is being described you may ask? The process of applying to college. Each year seniors scramble to submit applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendations to the schools of their choice. These documents are essential for nearly all students who want to advance to an institution of higher learning, but for many the paper trail does not end there. Seniors interested in a career in art, well specifically in visual art, need one more thing to obtain that sparkling acceptance letter. That missing link is a portfolio. The portfolio is a magnificent object. The portfolio allows its viewer a snapshot of the creator. The portfolio for the artist is almost as important as a résumé. The portfolio is an essential tool for any student interested in a career in visual arts due to its power of truth and persuasion. They panic because they realize they must make a decision that will affect the rest of their lives. Visual art majors have no need to panic because they have been waiting for this time for their entire lives. This is now the time they get to shine, and get to do what they have dreamed about. Although visual art majors still have stress concerning deadlines for college applications, they have planned for application season ever since they have picked up their creative utensils. With the portfolio these creative seniors get to rest easy knowing that they have worked years perfecting their trade and now they get to share their talents with the world. The portfolio no doubt is an essential part of receiving acceptance into prestigious art programs around the globe and if put together correctly will without a doubt result in a sparkling acceptance
The third and final media text I chose to create for my portfolio is a concept map. This is because it will allow me to draw out all the connections and characteristics of characters throughout the text and help me prove my thesis statement. Using a concept will help me as well as the reader to easily identify all the ideas within the map.
“Art is the organized visual expression of ideas or feelings.” Pensacola Christian College has a great definition for fine art. Starting with the first major point what type of art is this definition referring to; this is the traditional mediums used, such as painting, sculpture, architecture, and drawings. I am thankful we use traditional mediums at this establishment; after doing some research and finding artists like Millie Brown that have used bodily fluids and I am completely disgusted at the pieces that were created. Art needs to be an “organized visual expression of ideas or feelings” showing a clear understanding of design principles and using them to communicate a message. By following this principle I have been able to make some fantastic pieces that can go into a portfolio. Even God has said in Corinthians 14:33 says “for God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints”. The background of this passage is all about communicating to the church, but as a Christian artist we can apply this to our work so we can edify others around us rather...

“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him” (G.K. Chesterton). A soldier is a soldier no matter what. If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Both people are fighting the same fight: they love the country they are defending the people in it they just do it from different standpoints. Drones
A fine arts education including music, drawing, painting, and photography has been a part of a well rounded curriculum for decades, but soon that may be changing. The fine arts department in the public education system has constantly been barraged with budget cuts. On several occasions, The Texas Education Agency has repeatedly refused to provide sufficient financial aid to back up important funds that are set up to benefit our youths. These funds are are now coming from parents in a desperate attempt to keep several deemed “unnecessary” programs from shutting down. Not only does the art and music education is essential to the children's learning process, it also grants them the proficiency to mature and become versatile citizens, and why together as a state, we needed to campaign together to save these programs.
High school education is for students to learn the basic information that is needed to prepare them for college. It is critical for students to feel that it isn’t a waste of time for them to wake up and go to high school everyday. Majority of students has also felt that the courses they are attending aren’t giving them enough information that will be useful beyond high school. Shouldn’t students be in classes that will benefit them in the future? Should students be able to know what might be their strengths, and weaknesses in the courses that are required to be taken for a certain major? High schools should offer useful courses because it

Portfolios serve the purpose of an extensive record of a student’s best work and skills. As the student progresses through life, record keeping and reflection becomes an expectation. A résumé cannot possibly describe the entire list of qualities each individual possesses. Any person with a future-oriented mindset should have a portfolio to create opportunities for a successful life.
