The type of essay I chose to write for “The Book of Negroes” is a persuasive essay. Choosing this type of essay with allow me to organize my thoughts by using specific quotes and examples from the text to support my thesis statement. Although, an argumentative essay would work, I feel more comfortable writing a persuasive essay as I’m able to add my own emotions in my essay.
The first media text I chose to create for my portfolio is a blog post because there is no specific instruction to follow as I’m am able to write in my own personal opinion. Throughout the course of semester, I have developed many essential skills as a media text creator. We’ve been asked to do at least one of the media text once throughout this semester allowing us to fix our past mistakes and improve upon that. Challenges I will face throughout this assignment is I longer have the book in hand with me, so I may have to go back through previous assignments/blog post to find specific quotes that I’ve. I may have to retrieve the book back and refresh my memory of the book as it’s been a couple months since I had last finished the book. The start of creating my web page may be a bit difficult to get started with because we’ve dealt with majority of blogs this semester, so I may have trouble getting started with how I want to explain/showcase the purpose for an example to the audience.

Persuading an audience requires a bit of tact and respect. A successful persuasive article treats their opposing side’s position as a valid stance, but respectfully informs that side why their stance does not hold up as an argument as it doesn’t have realistic data to support their claim. Alfred Edmond Jr. is a vice president and editor of the magazine, Black Enterprise, and his argument that he articulates, which he published in the magazine he works for, is that business employers should be able to ask for an employee's Facebook password. Edmond fails in succeeding in his argument because he lacks to support his claims substantially, provide credibility and reliability to his ability to take a stance on this issue, and understand and respect
...the social injustices many of the Negro community faced as wrong. An argumentative manner is most effective mainly due to its ability to present both sides of argument and never being considered bias to one side since both are being presented clearly. Though one side is usually favored by the writer, it is equally balanced in that the audience isn’t fooled into thinking or believing one side is fully clear of faults and errors. Since both sides are presented, one is left to choose which position to take. Furthermore, an argumentative text tends to inflict more of a response to the reader, so that he/she will tend to side with one position or the other. Either way, the reader is now a part of the issue at hand, making them directly a participant of the topic. This is effective in that it makes the audience or reader accountable for his or her actions and beliefs.
The main idea of the paper is to demonstrates Poe’s “The Black Cat” is not a horror story but a literature confession, which through its terror plots and fabulas reach its optimistic conclusions about human existence. The paper is divided into five parts, which will prove the thesis that “The Black Cat” is optimism rather than horror. First, the essay is going to support that “The Black Cat” is a literary confession. Second, the tension in the tale between fabula and plot will be analyzed. The third part is to explore how literature confession produce a positive change. Then, the next section is to list five forms of evil, and the final portion emphasis “The Black Cat” as an optimistic tale.
“I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more, if only they had known they were slaves.” Harriet Tubman was a woman known for her important role during the time that led up to the Civil War. She was a woman of incredible strength, courage, and determination. And while Harriet Tubman is credited for giving the slaves an option as to what way they shall spend the rest of their life, the sad truth lies within the quote above. While many people like to believe that slavery was a horrendous act that happened only with small minded people from the south many years ago, that isn’t the case in all honesty. In fact, the idea of slavery was highly debated about and troubled more minds than many are led to believe. While there are
In the weekly readings for week five we see two readings that talk about the connections between women’s suffrage and black women’s identities. In Rosalyn Terborg-Penn’s Discontented Black Feminists: Prelude and Postscript to the Passage of the Nineteenth Amendment, we see the ways that black women’s identities were marginalized either through their sex or by their race. These identities were oppressed through social groups, laws, and voting rights. Discontented Black Feminists talks about the journey black feminists took to combat the sexism as well as the racism such as forming independent social clubs, sororities, in addition to appealing to the government through courts and petitions. These women formed an independent branch of feminism in which began to prioritize not one identity over another, but to look at each identity as a whole. This paved the way for future feminists to introduce the concept of intersectionality.
In his book, The Miseducation of the Negro, Carter G. Woodson addresses many issues that have been and are still prevalent in the African American community. Woodson believed that in the midst of receiving education, blacks lost sight of their original reasons for becoming educated. He believed that many blacks became educated only to assimilate to white culture and attempt to become successful under white standards, instead of investing in their communities and applying their knowledge to help other blacks.
What is theology? The word “theology” comes from two Greek words that combined mean “the study of God. There are more than 20 types of theologies. Black liberation started the American struggles of the 1960’s. In liberation theology there are 2 groups, the oppressed and the oppressor. The poor are the oppressed and the rich are their oppressors. This kind of theology contextualizes Christianity in an attempt to help those of African descent overcome oppression. This paper will focus on Black Liberation Theology and will explain how it discovers God and how the Biblical God inspire the prophetic work of black liberation theology.
All through American history there have been racial pressures. Malcolm X 's "The Black Revolution" emphasizes a great amount of the Civil Rights Movement where blacks requested respect and freedom from the whites. It was a stepping stone for the American encounters today; a general public that is made out of flexibility and equivalent rights for everybody. Malcolm X was persuading in light of the fact that he made a decent utilization of talk procedures. Malcolm X used very direct and aggressive tone in his speech. Discursive Essay on Racism Racism has existed for centuries, but during the last two hundred years hatred toward ethnic minorities or even majorities has fluctuated. The questions is according to the history of Anthony Johnson not all the blacks were slaves . Do you agree or disagree? Why and why not ? Take under consideration the events in the 17s that lead you to this conclusion.
I agree with the speaker in reference to the termination of slavery. It is astonishing that slavery still exists, since it is a violation of one’s civil and basic human rights. However, when the motivation behind one’s actions involve personal monetary gains, the issue of slavery in nearly every country, is not particularly difficult to imagine. The Framework for Responsible Leadership include human rights, and should be taken into consideration when conducting business globally. Sustainable development consists of meeting the present needs without infringing upon the capabilities of impending generations to accommodate their own demands. I disagree with the speaker when he stated that all human beings are in agreement regarding their disposition
A large problem in America has always been racial issues and still continues to be prevalent in our society today. The United States likes to boast its reputation as a “melting-pot” as many cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds are mixed together, yet the country still continues to isolate individuals based on race. In the constitution, it says that everyone is supposed to have equal rights and liberties, yet after over 200 years, many minorities still struggle to obtain the same respect and equality that their white counterparts have always have. Laws should be created to enforce equality and justice for racial groups.
Portfolios serve the purpose of an extensive record of a student’s best work and skills. As the student progresses through life, record keeping and reflection becomes an expectation. A résumé cannot possibly describe the entire list of qualities each individual possesses. As a result, portfolios thrive in high schools and offices alike to demonstrate a person’s capabilities in the greatest detail. Any person with a future-oriented mindset should have a portfolio to create opportunities for a successful life.
