Persuasive Essay On School Shootings

Depending on your definition of “school shooting,” you can say that there have or haven’t been 18 school shootings in 2018. Personally, I would say no that there haven’t, but in my opinion, there shouldn’t be any at all. Yes, there are people who want to go shoot up a school the question is why and how did they get the firearm or weapon. To answer the first question there can be a number of reasons, being mistreated, both at home and at school. There is also hatred towards people and possible mental issues that could come into play. Shouldn’t these people who have said mental issues not have access to firearms? Yes, they should be restricted with there access to firearms. An idea that I’ve heard was that there should be a mental health exam

before purchasing a firearm or any lethal weapon. Also stricter background checks for people who have a history of violence or have ever been in prison. Of course, there will always be ways to get around these security check-ups, they just need to happen more often. For people who have been mistreated and may have hatred towards people in the school, this can’t exactly be monitored, but there's a simple solution, don’t mistreat people. Yes, there are people who are just rude to others and what not, but if you think about it the news controls some of the things we think about. For example, you come home from school sad and mad, you have been bullied and hurt. You see the violence that is going on and you think to yourself, “hey I could do that.” Then you make a plan and so on. The news controls our state of mind, therefore, all of the news should be truthful and that in my opinion is why all this is happening once one happens it’s a chain reaction. So the news needs to tell the truth and saying that there have been 18 school shootings in 2018 is not the truth.
