Guns have a long history in the United States. Guns are used for self-defense but they are also used for hunting. Since guns are a part of the American culture, it is almost impossible to get rid of all the guns in the country. However, by training people how to use the guns properly, give people the right mental care, and limit the people who can have guns could stop school shootings in America. Anything in the world could be dangerous if people do not know how to use them. For example, knife is an indispensable tool for cooking. Cutting ingredients into small pieces, making a cut into meat to make it taste good, or cutting in beautiful shapes to make the dish to look good people use knifes in many ways. It makes are life better. However, what if people do not know how to use it safely? Knifes could easily hurt you if you use it in a wrong way. Guns are the same. It could be used as a self-defense but at the same time, if you use it wrong, it could be a
Some school are making their school a gun free zone. However, it is true that some people try to attack gun free zone because they know that no one has a gun to kill them back. Even people call the police, it takes time for the police to come and shooting does not take that much time to kill people. To solve this problem I think the campus safety should carry guns. Also, teachers may have a right to have guns, too. When the shooter comes into the classroom the teachers are the only adult that could protect the students. To protect children they all have to be trained how to use the gun. Also it is necessary for teachers and campus safety to have a mental health care periodically. There are many scientist who are researching about what kind of people tend to become mental illness and when do they become so. Unfortunately there is no strong evidence so, it is very important to watch out for the mental health of people who carries
Through the year’s shootings have increased by a significant amount. Individuals are becoming affected on a regular basis and are concerned about there safety. Parents are worried for there youth getting assaulted, sexually violence, tormented, kidnaped, murdered on the other hand, now there ending up to be more stressed for there child getting shot. Guns have been around for hundredths of years, both world wars were succeeded with guns, hence, guns were served to defend its nation through history. In Western society citizens purchase guns for self preservation. Unfortunately, they are utilized in opposing ways, the majority of crimes are involved in gun shootings; this is an essential issue in America. Most agree that gun violence will have
In America there is 89 firearms per 100 people (Moore) so it is safe to say most people will come in contact with a firearm in their life time. But when you do will you know how to handle the situation? Guns can be deadly when abused and used incorrectly. There is a way to reduce the unnecessary deaths. Firearm safety is the important piece in reducing the deaths and firearm abuse and it should be made mandatory in schools.
The second amendment grants all Americans the right to bear arms. The ability to hold a firearm at any time as long as the firearm is registered. In the United states, all it takes to hold a firearm is a background check and a safety class. In a short reading from the “American Now” book a short article By Christina Tenuta called Responsible gun ownership saves lives she asks “do Americans really need guns?”, but are the guns really the problem? Although the second amendment requires some decent documents , the qualifications to obtain a firearm needs to be revised to a mental check, a family history check , and also to make it a priority for reinforcement to check on the registered firearm every six to twelve months.
... a high school student, I don’t take much stock in the safety codes and drills in place to keep students safe in the event of a shooting. I would feel much safer knowing my teacher has the ability to protect the class, rather than hide and lock the door. An educator is responsible for the students in their class. They are responsible for their education and their safety while the children are in their classroom. The safety of fifteen or more students would be much more easily secured by one person if that person was armed. Promoting teachers to arm themselves also prevents school shootings; criminals don’t attack a victim that can fight back. At least 60% of school attacks would be prevented with an armed faculty warning sign. School faculty members should be armed to secure the safety of the countries students, and in hand prevent the majority of potential shootings.
For many years, America has witnessed mass shootings within it’s borders. In 2015 alone, there were 372 mass shootings (Oldham). The question most Americans are faced with is: do we need more gun control or is gun control the problem? With more gun control, it can be made mandatory that protective devices are used on firearms to prevent accidental harm. Gun control creates mandatory laws such as the requirement for an individual to pass a background check before he/she is permitted to purchase a firearm. Gun control has also been proven to prevent suicides due to the increased difficulty of obtaining a firearm. Those who believe that gun control is the problem claim that by removing one 's firearms, you are endangering them to threats that
They are our first defense and would be able to react much faster than any police officer who couldn't get to the scene in time “(yes or no)”The teachers will be certified which requires a background check so all teachers carrying will be mentally stable. most of the public shootings are in gun-free areas, i.e. schools, malls, etc. By making schools gun-free it doesn't make the school safer for the children, it makes it safer for the shooter. “(yes or no) “Teachers are the first line of defense in a classroom. And it states in the 2nd Amendment that we have the right to bear arms. In Utah, the 10 years teachers have been allowed to carry guns no K-12 school shooting have occurred. Some teachers spend more time with students than their own parents do “(yes or no). I can not find a way that this is still not safe. The safety is
Written on December 15, 1791 was the second amendment of the constitution. It states that "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."(Cite)? United States citizens have used guns for various reasons that include protection, hunting, and sporting reasons. The topic on gun control is a very complex topic that is discussed daily. It is such a big issue that it has both the democrats and republicans firmly established in their positions. One of the main reasons this has been such an important topic in recent years is because of all the murders and massacres that have happened recently in the United States. As our newly nominated president, Donald
Everybody in America knows that guns can be a major problem. Especially when these tools are being used on other people. You must be very cautious when you own a gun, cautious as a mouse trying to steal cheese of a trap. Saddly, a lot of people think that guns shouldn’t be used as much as they are now. A handful of people say that if they screw up with using a firearm they should be placed in jail with a box of crayons and paper to draw on. That’s it. Now different cultures have different point of views of this topic. Although, to have a gun is a right that most people will fight to keep, so most people will lose that debate. Unless they have there own Saturday night special than you will probably lose. Plentiful of people also have an opinion on that they don’t think that the gun is the problem it’s the person.
Like Mr. Cuellar said “ Being an US Customs I know any one with a gun in a shooting will help out to, there is more good people then bad and together we can take them down , that’s why I am with guns allowed in school campus , for the reason that I am also a father and care for the safety of my family members”. As he mentioned it can also be protection for oneself when you encounter a problematic situation. There are good reasons why we should allow them but there is more bad ones than good. Some people say that they’ll feel more protective if they have a gun with them , knowing someone you don’t know has one. If guns would be allowed under strictly rules and would have a lot of training and permissions / test people have to go through maybe like that I will be safe in school with guns
There is one reaction that is always to be expected after a mass shooting, and that is the call for an increase in control. This can be defined in numerous different ways, and can include a great deal of different aspects. People who call for an increase gun control in the wake of mass shootings are, in general, people who believe that more guns means more crimes. Gun control advocates cite studies that state, “Higher gun prevalence is associated with an increase in homicides, and suicides, and possibly even more residential burglaries” (Ludwig 17). Often times, after mass shootings, those in favor of more gun control look to countries like Australia, Canada, Great Britain and Japan, and their strict gun policy and cite this as the direction
The problem with guns is fairly obvious: they decrease the difficulty of killing or injuring a person. In Jeffrey A. Roth's Firearms and Violence (NIJ Research in Brief, February 1994), he points out the obvious dangers. About 60 percent of all murder victims in the United States in 1989 (about 12,000 people) were killed with firearms. Firearm attacks injured another 70,000 victims, some of whom were left permanently disabled. In 1985, the cost of shootings was an estimated $14 billion nationwide for medical care, long-term disability, and premature death. In robberies and assaults, victims are far more likely to die when the perpetrator is armed with a gun than when he or she has another weapon or is unarmed.
Imagine sitting at the kitchen table enjoying a cup of coffee and your attention is suddenly drawn to the television regarding a local university. The headlines reads lone gunman on local campus with five hostages and two critically injured. The first thing that comes to mind, is it could be a mother, father, sister, brother, or friend. Calls are made to cell phones to no avail, panic set in and worry fills minds. The police are telling worried students, parents, wives, and husbands to not panic and to stay home. Today sadly firearms have become a part of everyday life. Although the 2nd Amendment support the right to Bear Arms, the accidental deaths, teen killings and suicides are all reasons why gun control should be critically restricted
The gun control controversy has been going on for many years now in the United States. Gun Control is an action that would make it harder for people to obtain a gun. President Obama read a speech on gun control, which was given and published on January 16, 2013 at the White House in Washington DC. He delivered the speech because of the shootings in Aurora, Colorado and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Twelve adults were killed in Colorado and 20 children and six adults were killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School. His primary audience was Congress and his secondary audience was the citizens of the United States of America and republicans as some were against that proposed law. President Obama used the rhetorical strategies
If guns were allowed on campus it could make faculty and staff member’s job challenging. For instance, an irritable student could be unhappy with a grade and threaten a professor to change the grade. It would be much harder to say no if his/her life was at stake (Grayson & Meilman, 2011). Counselors and staff at universities are here to help students. Counselors, especially, are supposed to be there to help and not fear the student, but how can he/she do so if they know the student has a gun and could potentially harm them (Grayson & Meilman,
Gun violence on campuses cause thousands of deaths every year. There have been so many incidents where children would bring guns on campus and use them for the wrong purpose. The risk is way too high to have guns on campus. There have been studies to help try to understand why shooters decide to shoot up schools and the results are shocking. Students misusing guns for reasons other than protection is an issue that needs to be addressed.
