Recently, the increasing popularity of one leisure sport called roller skating remains a controversial topic among the public.Quite a few people regard it as a beneficial pastime whereas others argue that such roller shoes is a potential threat.Personally, I side with the latter point of view, contending that enormous hazards exist in the roller skates individually and socially. Those proponents of roller skating proclaim that such sport conduces to the youths' physical well-being as it is a low-risk leisure activity. They reckon those tricks employed with roller shoes can fulfill children's entertainment demands and exercise their response ability as well.Besides, concerning with the flexibility and rapidity of such special shoes, supporters also deem it as a convenient off-road vehicle which can save them substantial time spent on walking or waiting in the car during traffic jams.

After being mesmerized by figure skating at the age of eight, I became a member of the Markham Skating Club. As a competitive figure skater, I must perform various jumps and spins in a choreographed program. I have participated in numerous competitions in Central Ontario and have received multiple medals for my achievements. Yet, my achievement as a figure skater stem from the adversity that I faced throughout my skating journey. This sport has imposed challenges to both my mental and physical strength that have ultimately constructed the qualities of dedication and humility within myself.
Imagine being on the top of the world, on a bitter cold mountain, over top of an enormous crowd. Below where you stand, the lustrous lights are shining on a massive jump, that seems larger than the mountain itself, created for the professional snowboard competition. This gargantuan jump will decide whether you win or lose the competition. Becoming a professional snowboarder has been a dream to me ever since I first was beginning to snowboard. Being on top of the enormous slope and strapping into my bindings instantly made me relaxed and put a grin larger than the slope itself on my face. Everytime I glide down the face of the mountain I become focused and dialed in on my riding. When becoming a professional snowboarder as an occupation, I would
If you’ve read The Brave Ski Mom for any duration of time, you’ve probably observed that our whole family wears helmets: ski helmets, bike helmets, hockey helmets, lacrosse helmets and helmets while skateboarding. If we climbed, we’d wear helmets then, too. We LOVE helmets.
For many years, there has been debate if running barefoot is truly a good practice for runners. Some world-class runners, like Abebe Bikila, Bruce Tulloh, and Zola Budd, have won on marathons, earning gold medals, while running without shoes on.
There are kids and students, even from a young age, who are told by their parents that they have to play a sport. These parents find it important that their kids be involved in some type of physical activity, and it is. So a little girl thinks taking a dance class would be interesting and that she would be able to please her parents by this choice of sport. But when she comes to tell them what sport she would like to take up, they tell her dance is not a sport. Even after explaining to them that if someone is good enough they can compete, which is just like any other sport, this little girl’s dream of being a competitive dancer is crushed by her parents jaded view of what is considered a sport. The word “sport” is defined in the dictionary
A few winters ago, some friends invited my family and me to go snow skiing at Paoli Peaks, Indiana. I did not know how to snow ski, and I leaped at the thought of trying this new sport. On the first morning we entered the pro shop to rent all the gear and make decisions about whether or not to take lessons or go it alone. We decided to be adventurous and go it alone—no lessons. Kent and Celeste, the friends who invited us, knew how to ski and snowboard. He assured us that he could show us the basics, and we would be on our way down the slopes. All of us, after a few minutes learning how to wedge our skis started down the family trail. Although the family trail had smaller hills and appeared safe, to me it seemed way
When I go to a gymnastics meet and do really good, so I get that 1st place medal or trophy. It feels amazing, I mean the sport gymnastics is competitive and I sure do love competitive sports. The competitiveness gets you that rush of excitement. You feel nervous, but excited to get in there and try your hardest. Kids make better choices and have committed when they have the drawbacks of participating in competitive youth sports.

“Hopefully, kids realize you can do anything you want. Skateboarding can be that gateway.” - Ryan Sheckler. Sheckler meant that skateboarding is more than a sport, skateboarding is way of life and it can take people wherever they want to go. The culture of skateboarding has been taking over the world because anyone can do it no matter what their background, ethnicity, or body shape. This way of life is art form that is expressed through style and maneuvers on a piece of wood with wheels. Skateboarding has become one of the most popular extreme sports in the past few decades. In 2009 there was an estimated 9,281,500 skateboarders in the United States and that number continues to grow each year (“Who Are Skateboarders”). Why then are skateboarders
Rowing, originally used as a form of torture for convicted criminals, is now a recreational enjoyment for all. Despite the conditions, those slaves, now known as athletes, are demanded for pressing manpower at all times. In modern day, rowing is a year-round sport where people voluntarily go to endure hell and seem proud of the accomplishment. Seemingly, it should create more problems than any other sport because of how much time it consumes and how much misery it puts athletes through. However, people disregard that the effect it has in the long run actually outshines the predicaments of the present. Crew’s long dark history has turned it into one of the worlds most beloved and competitive Olympic sports and a cherished part of life for millions
I don’t remember the exact time when I was first introduced to skateboarding, it was probably around 6th or 7th grade. I remember my “skater” phase well (face palm). Anyway, fast forward a few years and I’m off to college. I was at Auburn University. The campus has lots of hills and slopes, very rough on the shoes. One of my friends, who also rode boards, would let me borrow one of his boards to ride around sometimes, and he would try to teach me how to control the board better. One day, he came to the student center where people often hung out to do work and whatnot with a new board he just bought. He got it from Goodwill, practically new, and since he had a lot of other different boards, he let me have that one. I was pretty psyched, I wanted
